300: A Look at Trading Pals Over the Last 300 Trades

The passage of the December 15th trade deadline has been particularly quiet in the 2017 PBSL season, but with the lack of hubbub surrounding current trades, I, the lazy statistician, will look at the last 300 trades that happened in PBSL (this takes us back to before the 2010 season got under way).

What am I aiming to find out? After all, there's no quantitive way to determine trade value that isn't a whole lot more work than my lazy ass already spent putting into the spreadsheet I'm about to link you to. So instead of looking at which teams are the shark and which are the bait, I'm simply looking at which teams do a lot of trading, which teams don't, and with who these teams are and aren't trading with. Without further ado, the data:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

Lazy Caveats

This spreadsheet solely looks at teams and not GMs. While things have been relatively consistent since the 2010 season, Chad has trades on the Sonics that are attributed to the [strike]Sonics[/strike] Thunder, and he has trades with the Bobcats that are attributed to the Bobcats. Teams that changed locations or names, like the aforementioned Thunder nee Sonics have the club's trades grouped together. The Pelicans trades include trades from the Hornets.

I guess that caveat wasn't too lazy. This one is though. I did not click on every trade link to make sure the trade was legal or that it was even a trade. Some bullshit got thrown out (like Doug and Tani trolling each other with screenshots), and if a post had too few replies to make it look like both parties accepted and someone processed it, I generally caught it, but there might still have been a bad trade or a double post that slipped through the cracks.

And now, just some interesting things I've found

King of Trading

The Bucks are the undisputed kings of trading with a whopping 56 trades out of the last 300 overall. More than one out of every 6 trades that has happened has involved the Milwaukee Bucks. The next closest team, the Pelicans/Hornets, have only made 40 trades (which is still twice the average). The Wizards have 39 trades in a close third, and the Magic have 35...most of which were Andy trading second round picks or trading Andrew Bogut to the Jazz.

The two teams that have hooked up the most over the last 300 trades are the Bucks and the Jazz. They've hooked up 7 times, which is 1/8th of the Bucks trades and 7/17 (41%) of the Jazz trades. It should be noted that the Jazz have had two owners in this timeframe, and not all of the trades were Doug trying to trape his recruit. For reference, there are some teams that have traded 4 times with each other, and only 1 pair (Bucks and T-Wolves) who have traded 5 times in the last 300 PBSL Trades.

The Bucks have also traded with every team except 4: The Philadelphia 76ers, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Dallas Mavericks, and the Indiana Pacers. The only team that has an above average amount of trades on that list is the 76ers, and they have a staunch no-trade policy with the Bucks.

Repeat Business

From experience, xist is a great dude to trade with. His "nicest guy in PBSL" title has long been touted, and though he has only traded with 17 teams, 13 of those 17 have come back for more trading with the Wizards GM. Conversely, the Bobcats have traded with 12 teams and are one of only two teams (we'll get to the other shortly) who have never traded with the same team twice. While one could certainly argue that if xist is the nicest guy in PBSL, then Chad must surely be the biggest asshole, but it should be noted that the Bobcats are a recent expansion team, and many of their trades were for protection in their expansion draft.

Trade Embargos

There are only 4 teams with less than 10 trades over the last 300: Celtics (9), Pacers (7), Cavs (7), and Clippers (5). The Clippers have been content to just have Kevin Durant, which has translated into at least one championship for them. The Suns would probably be less than 10 if we didn't count them trading their 1st round pick for points every year.

Thanks for your contribution - I wouldn't have guessed in a million years my max trading partner was 2...I used to be known as pretty trade happy, but I guess I've settled down a bit.
