Wiz Conference 2016: The One Where Xist Tries To Justify His Actions

Post by Xist2Inspire »

Hey there, welcome.

Image
Sorry about the mess

Ugh, it's that time of year again? I was so not looking forward to this. So, about last season. F*** last season.

Image
Shut up Jar Jar, that's how I feel

After a failed attempt at restarting ended with a hasty trade of a DC vet and an exorbitant tax bill, we grinded out the season, and were actually doing fairly well for ourselves...until Tyreke went down. Whatever tenative cohesiveness we had earned went down the drain, and so did we once the playoffs rolled around. And then came the worst part...the tax bill. Miraculously, we were able to scrounge up the points to pax it. Had we not sent Melo off to the Nets in order to save some cash, though, we probably wouldn't have been able to. So after looking at how much we'd owe this season after the miniscule cap jump, I had one clear, overriding thought.

Image
Yup

So yeah, come hell or high water, I was going to get under the cap. And just like last season, interest for the team was low to nonexistent. One player did get a tiny bit of interest, though: Tyreke Evans. I wasn't shopping him, in fact, I'd given a warning that any who ask better come strong or not at all. Even when the Magic sent in their offer, I was hesitant. I was headed for a bad season anyway, so would I rather be a bad team with Tyreke and no assets, or a bad team with assets and no Tyreke?

Truly, a conundrum for the ages

So, because there were actually two guys in the draft that I liked, as well as the fact that Tyreke was literally the only guy I had any hope of trading at the moment, I made the deal. Sorry Tyreke. Sometimes these things happen. Of course, after the face of my franchise went bye-bye, it suddenly became a lot easier to move players around. Thomas Robinson? Gone. Jeff Adrien? Adios. Danny Green? Sayonara. Ed Davis? It's like he never existed. Funny how things work. The end result is that we're under the tax apron, but also under the talent level needed to win. I hate to play the "wait until next year" card, but that's really the only semi-positive thing I can say...well, unless I get a good question. Anybody got any good questions?

Any truth to the rumor you'll run out a lineup of players all 6-10 and taller?

I've actually managed to do it before, so it really all depends on if I'm able to find a relatively quick big who can run an offense.

Brandon Knight will be our starting PG on opening day, with Clarkson coming off the bench at SG and PG as our 6th Man. We heard rumors that Knight was unhappy sitting behind Tyreke and Aaron last season. Well, I hope he's happy now, because the pressure's on.

How does it make you feel that once he left, Thomas Robinson went all beast mode on TC?
6 Rings. That's it. That's the tweet.

Meh. I was pissed at first for various reasons, but 3 things calmed me down. One, T-Rob's role on our new squad was sketchy, I didn't really have a clear picture of where he'd fit. Two, retaining him would've meant yet another big cap hurdle to work around. Three, there was no way I could've gotten a better return in a S&T, because the Bulls didn't have anything to give up.

So yeah, I just have to deal with it. Congrats to Chicago, best of luck to T-Rob, and all that jazz.

...that maybe you can save a bunch of money on your car insurance by switching to Geico?

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: Now that you've got your tax situation sorted out, what does that mean for Wilson Chandler's future with the Wizards?

There's no way we're picking up his option, the more cap space next season, the better. He might not even finish the season with us, it depends on if any offers pop up. There's always a chance he could be retained in UFA, but it's not looking good. Wilson's been a wonderful player to have, one of DC's best (kinda sad when you think about it), but he knows just as well as I know that his time here has been winding down.
