Welcome to the call for nominees to the People’s Basketball Sim League Hall of Fame. The rules are simple. Nominate a player you think deserves to be mentioned among the greatest players to play in this league. Championships, all-star appearances, funny picture blogs: all of these things could mean enough to warrant a nomination. There’s only one requirement: the player has to be retired from the PBSL. There is no time restriction on retirement – as soon as a player retires, they are eligible for the HOF.

So what’s to stop you from just sending Arnett Moultrie to the Hall of Fame because you like his name? Well, first of all, he’s not retired yet, so you’re clearly not paying attention. But what else is going to stop you? I am.

I will review the nominations and put out a ballot of those I think qualify to be elected to the Hall. And then you vote on those players to see if they get enshrined.

-Nominees on the ballot with over 75% yes votes get into the HOF
-Nominees on the ballot with over 50% yes votes (but under 75%) are automatically considered for next year's ballot ("free" nomination that doesn't cost any owner a yearly nomination).

Nominations open now and are open until the end of the playoffs. I will release the ballot after the playoffs end and they will be open for two weeks from that day. Reply to this post with your nomination.

These pretty much speak for themselves. We all know that Kemp is the OP GOAT, but Tim Duncan did so much without the title of OP ever being flung his way (or ever being p/p). 2nd best big ever. I mean, 3 MVPs, 12 time All-League (8 1st team), 6 time All-Defense, 12 time All-Star, 4 time Scoring Leader, 1 time Rebounding Leader, 1 time Champion. Rings? Check. MVP? Check, check, check. This nomination is just a formality to be honest. But let's do some fun facts.

Did you know that Tim Duncan...
...has more All-League Team selections than Shawn Kemp?
...averaged over 50% from the field every season until his very last one with the Hawks (47.5%)?
...never averaged less that 7 rebounds per game until his last 2 seasons?
...averaged a double-double for 6 seasons?

A guy who somehow seems to have fallen off everyone's radar - and really shouldn't have - is one Nick Van Exel (final player page: http://pbsl.ijbl.net/2011/players/player459.htm).



Van Exel retired with the most assists in PBSL history (11,136; Magic Johnson and John Stockton have more career assists only if you credit their pre-PBSL NBA years - the next closest player is the Glove with 9,917). He led the league in assists 7 times and made 7 all-star appearances.

His career three-point percentage is a sterling 0.378 and he logged over 46,000 minutes in his PBSL career. He carries a career 19.7 PER mark and EWA suggests he is responsible for over 204 wins. He only had a negative EWA once (in his 19th and final season).

Nick was very, very good for a very, very long time. For a decade (1995-2004) his PER was over 19 every year and usually in the mid-20's. If the most important ability is availability, Nick has that too - for the first 17 years of his career, Van Exel missed exactly 37 out of 1396 games and started every single game he played in the first 16 seasons he played. Not only was his passing excellent, his defense was very good as well; he is tied for #22 on the career steals list and averaged just 1.3 fouls in 33.6 minutes per game for his career!

Nick probably gets overlooked because he spent most of his career toiling on mediocre teams that rarely placed great scorers beside him (making his assist total all the more impressive) and dragging his teams to the playoffs only to get bounced early by more complete teams. He also gets overlooked because he never posted overwhelming scoring numbers - at his peak he never broke 20 points per game - but if you're looking for the "classic point guard" - a guy who plays solid defense, passes the ball, and shows up EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT. then Nick Van Exel is your man.
