Lottory Team Needs - Western Conference Edition

Post by ballsohard »

Team: Golden State Warriors Image

Record:23-59

Biggest Need: Anything not a Center

Summary: The Warriors fresh off a championship year, made the (two way) head scratching move to trade Steph Curry for Rudy Gobert. On a vacuum , it seemed like a moderately fair exchange of talents. In the Real simworld, it was perplexing as they already had DeAndre Jordan who was fresh off of stopping every offensive talent the league has seen. Bow's natural kitten=-ike curiosity killed the Warriors. I ex

Best Case Scenario: Matt Peck; although some think , as a lotto team, I keep putting Peck up there to throw them off my trail for Henderson and Desentis despite everyone having the same viewing options as me, I'm genuinely intrigued by Peck. He's maybe the second best athlete in the draft, can score from anywhere, takes care of the ball, and defends. Plus, the last thing the Warriors need is another Center. Despite this, I could see them tripling down Bucks style to take another Center.

Team: Los Angeles Lakers Image

Record: 31-51

Biggest Need: Time, possibly a cheaper Cousins replacement

Summary: Man, the Lakers have a full deck. Giannis, Embiid, LeCroix, Jennings and Cousins. So why are they so pathetic year in and year out? Well, like Conroy, GM Traywithana's sole focus isn't on it's team. He does a fine job in spurts though. Once Giannis and the boys grow up, it really wont matter though. This team is destined for greatness and bank breaking. The only thing more interesting than watching this talent grow together, is how they'll afford the luxury tax over time. They also were not a lot of fans to love the Cousins deal, and since I traded him to the Lakers, i'll white knight for a second. As a team with a ton of cap space and no pick this year they decided to win as many games as possible. The Cousins deal immediately helped them go 12-4 and show off some of this potential. the pick moved from the 3 spot to the 9 spot with this move and made the Bynum deal much more palatable.

Best Case Scenario: With no lotto picks, the Lakers best case scenario is to keep going the way they are and not get destroyed in TC. With their cap, if they go out, cause some havoc in RFA, and eventually sign a younger solid player, it'll be a massive win.

Team: Portland Trailblazers Image

Record:31 - 51

Biggest Need: Less analytics, more players and rebounding

Summary: The Trailblazers made numerous attempts at making runs with D Rose without much success and now Rose is a UFA. It's hard to see Rose wanting to return after the only trail he's been asked to blaze is to the funeral as each trailblazer's season ends in death. With that being said, they can offer the most money and have a great chance at retaining him.

Best Case Scenario: With no lotto pick, I think the best case for the Blazers is to work out a sign and trade for Rose and get this rebuild started now. Sure, they could retain him and try for 4 more seasons to make a run with him in the Pacers and Derron William's mold, but there's no infrastructure for that in Portland.

Team: Dallas Mavs Image

Record:37-45

Biggest Need: Bookends (1 and 5)

Summary: The Mavs had a great trading season in fleecing the Pistons for Bradley Beal. The real luck behind it was the Piston's GM picked up the phone, as he hasn't done for any other owner; but let's get to the Mavs situation at hand because it's kind of an odd one. they have a vet in LMA. A RFA in Beal who may be a max. A Pick next year. No pick the year after. So the obvious gamble would be to go ahead and tank this year and try and rebuild quickly next, right?

Best Case Scenario: I think the Mavs should take a hybrid approach. LMA needs to go for a younger talent ready to play now. In doing this, they may lose talent and more games but the Mavs get a building block with Beal in the future. And because they have their pick they may end up with 2 pieces. The next year, they can piece mail some pieces together around those 3 with their ample cap space and make sure that pick turns into nothing.

Team: VanMemphis Grizzlies Image

Record: 38-44

Biggest Need: Bigs

Summary: No one can reasonably fault the Grizzlies for not taking a swing at the playoffs. The Grizzlies traded for Rondo next to Butler and Leonard and tried to make a legit run. Unfortunately it didn't work out and they don't have their pick. With Alex Burks on deck with a semi reasonable... kind not great but not bad contract and 54 Million per season wrapped up into their wings I think they'll have to make a decision here.

Best Case Scenario: Broomfield looks like a lot of fun, but is going to take a lot of time. Trading one of Leonard, Butler, or Burks is a must to get a big with a pulse. trading for paul Milsaps was a savvy move by GM Loco, but he clearly needs more talent here. Soemthing like Burks, Biens, and a first could land them a guy like LMA in a win-win scenario that helps them win now.

Team: OKC Thunder Image

Record: 39-43

Biggest Need: Defense, defense, and more defense

Summary: In this wacky world of stretch 4's , 3 pg line-ups, 3 point bombing, we sometimes get caught up in it all. It seems the Thunder did as well. Trading for Tyson Chandler a couple of years ago was a nice boon to their defensive talent, but they need more. The CJ Miles/ Isiah Thomas Combo has left a lot to be desired with their lack of size. 9-2 in their last 11, they may have figured it out. But they foolishly traded their draft pick for who can remember what and are left in a tough position to add talent. Do they use their 35+ Million to add someone who will potentially boost their defense?

Best Case Scenario: I think a reshuffling is in order. They need to pick who the cornerstone is: McCullum or Thomas. Then move the other for a big. Jabari Parker looks like he can be a legit scorer, and his versatility can allow him to play both the 3/4 which gives the Thunder flexibility in moving for a big. Moving quickly will be key because if they haven't made the move before UFA, they may be pressed into brining back Titan for more money than they want.

Team: Houston Rockets Image

Record: 40-42

Biggest Need: To stop trading with the Bucks; Depth

Summary: The Rockets started out the year with playoffs hopes, only to have those hopes dashed away. For a lot of the bad talk in the league about this franchise's lack of success, the Rockets have done a fantastic job of getting talent in on reasonable deals. Faried though was a bit of a stretch. They gave Faried 15m per year to play 24 minutes and score 4 ppg. With the Horford era soon to come to a close and Lawson possibly coming off of contract, it's now or never for the Rockets.

Best Case Scenario: Signing Thaddeus Young to another good contract and trading the 14 pick for win now talent.
