Impact of Elders

Tim Thomas (39)
Team: Toronto Raptors
Contract: Vet Min
Strength: 3 point shooting

Through the season, Thomas seems to have been a sixth man for this team. He averaged 16.5 minutes with 5.2 points per game and 3 rebounds per game. In the playoffs, he got pushed to starting small forward due to an injury to Kyle Lowry.

Impact: Key bench player

Stephen Jackson (38)
Team: Miami Heat
Contract: Vet Min
Strength: Steals

Definitely relegated to a backup role, Jackson is averaging 12.1 minutes per game. He is average in most important parts of his game. He does have good ratings in steals and better than average at 3 point shooting. In the playoffs, Jackson has yet to play due to an injury. Upon returning from injury, he will return to his role as back up to Omri Casspi.

Impact: Key bench player

Tracy McGrady (36)
Team: Portland Trailblazers
Contract: $5,300,000 – 1 year
Strength: Balance

As the starting shooting guard on a non-playoff team, McGrady played 36 minutes per game averaging 15.3 points per game this season. He also had 5.2 rebounds per game, 2.9 assists per game, and 1.3 steals per game. He is past his time as an impact player, but he still has solid contributions.

Impact: Role player

Ron Artest (36)
Team: New Orleans Pelicans
Contract: $12,001,000 – 1 year
Strength: Talent

Ron Artest is the only player in this list who is still an impactful starter in the league. He is averaging 20.5 points per game on 35 minutes per game. He still has good ability on both sides of the court. A two way player at this age is not easily found. Although some of his athleticism has faded, his ability has maintained. In the playoffs, he is the starting shooting guard and maintains his key role for this team.

Impact: Key starter

Kirk Hinrich (35)
Team: Portland Trailblazers
Contract: $2,250,000 – 1 year
Strength: Offense

As a backup to Derrick Rose, Hinrich averaged 5.1 points per game on 16.3 minutes per game. He maintains some of his ability, but with his decrease in quickness, his ability is not showing through as much in the game. His role can’t be overlooked, but he is far from an impact starter for this team.

Impact: Bench player

Image
Reggie Evans (35)
Team: New York Knicks
Contract: Vet Min
Stength: Rebounding

Reggie averaged 3.2 minutes per game this season. He still has really good ratings at both rebounding categories, but with his quickness down to a 21 on a 6’8” body, he isn’t able to keep up with players at the power forward or center position. He is on a division winning team, so he may have a chance to win another championship, but it will be as a non-factor.

Impact: End of the bench player
