Adding MLE and/or LLE to UFA

Post by IamQuailman »

This came up for discussion before, but would like to bring it up again for discussion on here (not just Skype).

MLE/LLE would only be available to those over the cap. Set amounts I'm not 100% sure on but it would be a set $ amount for all over the cap teams. It's a double edge sword though.

Stipulations:
-You may be over the cap to use this (non-negotiable)
-Untradeable for 1 league year
-Deals can only 1yr deals (would need to play around to see if this is a limit or the game or if this would be a league imposed rule... if the latter, this could be up for discussion)
-Would get early bird rights (again, would need to test this)

If you are a tax delinquent, you are not allowed to use your Level Exception.

I'd also like to add an apron for the Tax to be below the MLE.

I'm for us having a MLE, against us having a LLE.

We need to discuss this a little more in detail before being put to a vote, as adding an MLE would have some fairly serious ramifications to our luxury tax system and also we need to vet what FBB allows by default to see if we need to work around it. One huge thing to consider is the added complexity an MLE would bring because every time you add complexity, you add another obstacle to the learning curve for new GMs.

With our current luxury tax system, adding in the MLE is simply a way for teams to crash themselves on the luxury tax faster. It will also have the side effect of sending salaries spiraling up league-wide (as signing a guy for an MLE deal will become the new signing a guy for a vet min deal). We're probably going to have to carefully reconsider the entire Free Agency/Luxury Tax process from the ground up. That's not necessarily to say we shouldn't do it, just letting people know what we would be getting into if we go down this road.

A COUPLE OF THINGS I KNOW ABOUT THE MLE IN FBB:

1. By default in FBB, the MLE is set at 7.8% of the salary cap (for our present cap that corresponds to a hair under $6.4 million) and the LLE is set at a shade over 3% of the cap (for us that would be just under $2.5 million). I would suggest if we use a LLE that's a good thing since it is larger than the vet min (which it has to be). You CAN set it to a different figure manually.

2. In FBB, the salary cap increases at the same rate that the cap increases.

I will try to find some time to tease out the behavior of the MLE in FBB and try to come up with a more comprehensive explanation of how it works in the game so we can start figuring out how we want to attack it. However, I think that, much like the point system and/or training system, this probably needs to be done in a comprehensive overhaul of the whole shebang rather than a piece at a time. I would suggest also that if we choose to add the additional complexity the MLE would bring, there are a number of other items we should consider, not the least of which would be slowing down Free Agency a little bit (i.e., instead of 3 UFA sims, we would probably want to expand to 6 or 7 sims of 2-3 days each).

To that last point Wig, I didn't know it'd be so complex to add the MLE. I speak for myself here, but I'd rather keep things the way they are rather than make free agency a week long process in order to add an MLE. If there's a simpler solution, I think it'd add a nice dynamic, but I don't think it's so necessary that we revamp our free agency process.

Oh god 6-7 sims of UFA? Even with nodes that's a lot for the inputters, and it extends offseason that much more.

I second this.
