Remove 60-Day cooling Period on Re-signs

Post by WigNosy »

Replace the following bullet point in Trade Rules and Restrictions (see pbsl.ijbl.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=32 )
- You must wait 60 days to trade a player you have either traded for or signed in free agency.
With this one:
- You must wait 60 days to trade a player you have either traded for for or signed from another team in free agency.
The game differentiates between off-season FA signings coming from another team "Team signs Player" and from your own team "Team re-signs Player" and allows a re-signed player to be traded immediately. I see no reason for us to put an additional restriction on trades.

(Note: Suggestion does not apply to RFAs)

We *already* have an exception to this rule for "immediate sign and trades" (i.e., you sign the player an immediately announce a trade involving the player).
2) During Free Agency, a team may work out a sign and trade with another so long as the player played for the signing team in the previous season. These must be posted PRIOR TO THE NEXT FA SIM/OFF-SEASON ACTIVITY SIM (previously stated as IMMEDIATELY... this is shedding light on defining "immediately").
It makes no sense that you can sign a player and trade him... but if you don't trade him right away, you then have that right taken away for a while. Either you have the right to trade the player or you don't.

Having 20 players under contract and being 22 million over the cap (10 million more than next worst offender) doesn't make any sense either, but is also legal under the current system.

I'm not a fan of this proposal. The purpose of the sign and trade is for a person who may not have the cap space to make an offer pre SIM, previous team makes said contract offer on other teams behalf, and then post after SIM occurs.

but since not everyone can be on at the second of signing (or that sometimes Sims happen later than deadline), the time was expanded to before next FA SIM or activity. I mean, we could also say provide a screen shot of agreed upon trade in PM as proof of it being a pre-SIM sign and trade agreement if necessary. But the whole point of sign and trades was not to retain your guy then seek out trades. It was intended for an already agreed upon trade.

Also the 60-Day Waiting period needs to be clarified. 60 days applies to people acquired after the 1st regular season sim, correct? Anything acquired in off-season = Dec 15 trade eligible?

Anything acquired in the off-season is December 15th eligible, correct. Just checked the NBA CBA FAQ and the rule is that you have to wait for 3 months or until December 15th, whichever is LATER, to trade free agents signed during the off-season (obvious exception: sign and trade). Since most free agent signings happen in July/August in FBB, FBB just "says December 15th for all off-season pickups." Hope that clarifies things.
