2014-2015 Hall of Fame Nominations

Post by JNR »

YOU WILL RECEIVE 1 POINT FOR NOMINATING SOMEONE FOR THE HALL OF FAME. IF THE PLAYER YOU NOMINATE GETS VOTED INTO THE HALL OF FAME, YOU GET ANOTHER POINT.

Welcome to the call for nominees to the People’s Basketball Sim League Hall of Fame. The rules are simple. Nominate a player you think deserves to be mentioned among the greatest players to play in this league. Championships, all-star appearances, funny picture blogs: all of these things could mean enough to warrant a nomination. There’s only one requirement: the player has to be retired from the PBSL. There is no time restriction on retirement – as soon as a player retires, they are eligible for the HOF.

So what’s to stop you from just sending Pavel Podkolzine to the Hall of Fame because you like his name? Well, first of all, he’s not retired yet, so you’re clearly not paying attention. But what else is going to stop you? I am.

I will review the nominations and put out a ballot of those I think qualify to be elected to the Hall. And then you vote on those players to see if they get enshrined.

-Nominees on the ballot with over 75% yes votes get into the HOF
-Nominees on the ballot with over 50% yes votes (but under 75%) are automatically considered for next year's ballot ("free" nomination that doesn't cost any owner a yearly nomination).

Nominations open now and will stay open until the end of the season. The ballot will be released that weekend and voting will last until the season is over. Reply to this post with your nomination.

Chauncey Billups isn't your typical HOF candidate. His stats don't scream HOF. His career stats are:

PPG - 13.8 (never topping hitting 20ppg except one season in Houston)
RPG - 3.5
APG - 5.9 (Although between 1999 and 2007, he never averaged less than 6.7)
ToPG - 1.9
SPG - 1.4

Then again, he's never been one to steal the spotlight. Whether it was in Toronto (Gugliotta, Brand, Finley), Milwaukee (Artest, Ginobili, Stoudemire), Denver (Wade, Garnett, Van Horn), or (to a talent-wise lesser respect) Phoenix (Reddick, Korver, Love), Chauncey never was the #1 option. But he didn't need to be; he was a guy who made his teammates better. He's always chose the smart shot (career 41% from 3 and 45% from the field), and when it wasn't there, he wasn't shy about getting the ball to his superstar teammates.

He wasn't just an offensive player; he was an elite defensive presence at the other end of the court. He never made an All-Defense team, but when you have to share a guard spot with the likes of OPs (McGrady and Penny) and other equally deserving, profound defenders (Bonzi Wells, Jason Kidd, and Baron Davis) the entire prime of the career, losing out on those All-Defense designations is something you can't ding his ability on. It's a tip of the hat to the level of defensive play at that time.

Similarly, Chauncey only made All-NBA 2nd team once. Guard play was at it's peak during this team, and Chauncey being surrounded by amazing talent on his own teams took away from his ability to make an All-League squad.

Chauncey did get some love from the fans though, being a 3-time NBA All-Star (twice with the Raptors, once with the Bucks).

But why? What does Chauncey deserve HOF? One reason: wherever Chauncey went, Championships often weren't very far behind. 9 of his 13 seasons were spent playing into May (of those post seasons, advancing to at least the 2nd round 7 times). Chauncey is a 3-time NBA Champion, winning one with 3 separate teams. Not to mention, two of those teams (Nuggets and Suns) he won the championships with... they were one and done seasons. He walked in ready to ball and walked out with another notch in his Championship bedpost and another ring on his finger. Most players start to fizzle out towards the end of their career, but Chauncey... man, Chauncey may have lost a step but he definitely didn't lose his clutch ability. In his 3rd and final championship at the ripe age of 33, Chauncey Billups won the Playoffs MVP award. Even in his last season at the age of 36, Chauncey tried to relive the magic of his Playoff career one last time and helped lead the Artest-less Trailblazers to the Western Conference Finals (where they unfortunately met the unstoppable force of Kevin Durant).

Every HOFer has a story, and Chauncey's story is that when it came to the post-season... he is a winner. More importantly he is a champion that made his fellow teammates better at the expense of his own statistics. And for that reason, Chauncey Billups deserves to get your vote for NBA SLOE Hall of Fame.

They say, to make the Hall of Fame, can you tell the story of basketball without the player in question. Sit back, and let me tell you Antwan Jamison’s story and you tell me.
Image
Antwan Jamison left North Carolina as a dominant force for three years. He came into the league and was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks who was already on a team with All World HOF PG Penny Hardaway on the heels of a 62-15 season and a championship with a loaded squad. The GM at that time, decided his team had run it’s course and it was time to rebuild around Penny. Jamison came in his rookie year and took off as the team’s Third leading scorer. This trend of scoring would continue throughout his career, eventually leading the league in scoring.

Outside of being maybe one of the most feared scorers in the league, Jamison was really one of the first successful SF/PF combos we had seen up until this point. He had the quickness and the inside scoring to blow by bigger players in the league, and he had the strength to power past quicker and smaller SF’s in the league.
Image
While Jamison will never be confused with a defensive stopper. When he didn’t have the ball in his hands, Jamison was relentless on the offensive glass only averaging under 2 ORB per game in one season (1.9), his last before retirement. He also wasn’t a slouch on the defensive end, albeit not dominant, but that was the story of Jamison: elite offensively and good enough everywhere else to be highly coveted.

When looking at the entirety of his career, Jamison racked up awards much like he racked up points every year:
All-time rank Scoring: 25
All-time rank Offensive Rebounds: 21

All League Teams: 6
All Star Appearances: 8
Top Scorer: 1
Top 25 in Scoring: 9

Career Averages:
22/7.6/2.2

Peak Average:
30/8.6/2.5
So you tell me: Can you tell the story of basketball without a man who's top 25 in scoring? Can you tell the story of the 2000's without Antwan Jamison?
