2014 PBSL Season Preview

Post by 78# »

Based on what the computer predicts this season after TC results. Does not take into accounts some of the post-preseason roster moves. We will look at the division races, all-League first team, and all-rookie team, and I will add my hot take to it. Playoff teams will have asterisks marked next to them

Atlantic Divison

1. Miami Heat*
2. Washington Wizards*
3. Orlando Magic
4. Philadelphia 76ers
5. New York Knicks
6. Boston Celtics
7. Brooklyn Nets

This division has taken a step back this season, but no surprise with the Heat predicted as first place. The Wizards roster isn't quite the same as last season, the 76ers got hit hard in TC, and need a PG. All the other teams are either too young or lack depth.

Central Division

1. Atlanta Hawks*
2. Indiana Pacers*
3. Toronto Raptors*
4. Chicago Bulls*
5. Cleveland Cavaliers*
6. Milwaukee Bucks*
7. New Orleans Hornets
8. Detroit Pistons

This is easily the deeper division in the East. The Hawks are the class of the division and maybe the class of the league, but the rest of the division looks pretty tough too. The Pacers may have the best backcourt in the league while seeing Greg Oden have a monster TC though they're depending on the corpse of Danny Granger to help out at SF. The Raptors had a strong run last season and return the duo of Bosh/Lowry while adding Evan Turner. The Bulls look very strong as well led by James Harden while completing their roster in acquiring Taj Gibson and Patrick Beverly. The Cavs added Al Jefferson to Gasol/Paul and the Bucks who were 3rd in the east still have a plethora of talent. Don't sleep on the Hornets who added Max Monroe and the Pistons still have Anthony Davis.

Midwest Divison

1. Denver Nuggets*
2. Utah Jazz*
3. Houston Rockets*
4. VanMemphis Grizzlies
5. San Antonio Spurs
6. Dallas Mavericks
7. Minnesota TWolves

The Nuggets are clear favorites after adding LaMarcus Aldridge and Luol Deng while everyone else seems to have two good stars, but holes elsewhere. The game likes the Jazz mainly because of superstar Paul George while the Rockets and Grizzlies are closely battling for 3rd place, but don't count out the Spurs though they are on the decline while the Mavs and Wolves are predicted to be lottery teams as well.

Pacific Division

1. LA Clippers*
2. Seattle Supersonics*
3. Golden State Warriors*
4. Portland TrailBlazers*
5. Phoenix Suns*
6. LA Lakers
7. Sacramento Kings

This is the deep division in the West. Each contender has a superstar surrounded by other stars. The Clippers have Durant surrounded by Hibbert and West, the Sonics have Blake, Tyson, C.J. and Isiah though depth may be an issue. The Warriors have Steph surrounded by Ryno, DeAndre, and Affalo, the Blazers jumped off after surrounding Rose with Ish, Thaddeus, Gortat, and Perkins, while the Suns have Love with Hunter, Demarie Carroll, Thornton, and Aaron Brooks. The game has the Clippers as the frontrunners with the Sonics, Warriors, Blazers, and Suns bunched together battling for the second spot while the Lakers and Kings are in rebuild mode. The game has the Kings actually as the worst team in the league.

All-League First Team

C - Tyson Chandler (Sonics)
PF - Kevin Love (Suns)
SF - Paul George (Jazz)
SG - Ron Artest (Pacers)
PG - Derron Williams (Pacers)

Paul George is purple/purple, but I think Durant will get the first team bid at SF. Can't argue with Love or Derron, but how about Artest joining D-Will to form the best backcourt in the league? If Rose is moved to SG as predicted, he could get the first team spot, but don't count out Klay Thompson for the Nuggets. I think Horford will beat out Chandler if he recovers from the broken leg.

All-Rookie

C - Nikola Jokic (Knicks)
PF - Josh Harrelson (FA)
SF - Jabari Parker (Hornets)
SG - Justin Holiday (Heat)
PG - Jordan Clarkson (Magic)

How will Harrelson be any all-team if he isn't on any roster? I like Jokic with the Knicks. I see Wiggins being the SG if the Wolves keep him there all season and Clarkson will be playing SG for the Magic most likely so Elfrid Payton could get the PG spot.

Well there you go. Here's what the computer thinks. What about you guys?

Wow, league MVP is totally ignored for first team.
I still got all my fingers but somewhere I lost my mind.

It's the Kevin Love effect.
