Why are we voting during the playoffs? I think we should be wrapping up voting before the first sim of the playoffs. Why the sudden change?
Originally it was to allow people this weekend to campaign for their guys and then let the votes tally up throughout the week via PM and then announce the winners that following Monday for the regular season awards.
After a brief discussion on Skype, I'll send out the ballots on Friday night/Saturday morning and count the award winners for this coming Monday to expedite the process. I'll edit the dates in the other two threads.
This year, I feel as though I've built a well-structured team around my two superstars, have lengthened the window of my team, and have developed a proper gameplan to succeed with this team.
Coming into this season, I had my normal big 3 of Steph Curry, DeAndre Jordan, and Zach Randolph. While they have consistently put me in a position where I could win around 50 games and compete in any playoff series, Randolph was on the decline, and I needed to find a way to get better.
I came into the year with 2 major problems: I had no small forward, and Zach Randolph was an expiring 31 year old, and I didn't have much cap to replace him. I ended up addressing the second problem first. With Stephen Curry, I wanted to build an outside focused team that could rain down 3 pointers for years to come. With that, I needed a stretch 4. Ryan Anderson became available, and I jumped at the opportunity to acquire him. I traded expirings, a couple young guys who weren't getting minutes, and my first rounder next year which shouldn't hurt very much. In return, I acquired one of the best big man snipers in the game right now on a reasonable contract. I had my power forward of the future. His defense and rebounding aren't ideal, but I'll come back to that.
With Anderson, I looked for every opportunity to move Randolph. I had a 4 that fit better with the system I wanted to run and was under contI ract for multiple more years. I badly needed a wing. I was using Fransisco Garcia who was a fine stop gap, but I needed some more firepower if I wanted to compete for the West. I ended up essentially swapping Zach Randolph for a Arron Afflalo, a 22 PPG scorer with an incredible ability from downtown. Now I have my starting 1-3 locked down for multiple years, all of whom have a 3 pt rating of at least 95. I have a stretch 4 who can stroke it from deep as well with an 85 3 Pt rating. I did this only sending out one future first rounder.
Additionally, I acquired solid depth, re-signing Ben Gordon (possible 6MOY) for cheap and trading for Batum and Singler. My team runs 10 deep and shoots 40% from 3 while taking the most per game.
The big criticism of my Randolph trade was that I traded a big man who could score, rebound, and defend, for a one-way wing and replaced Randolph with a one-way forward. However, I thought of this a strategic move given my franchise cornerstones. Curry's a fine defender, but mainly, I believe I have the best defensive player in the league in DeAndre Jordan. WIth 100 in both rebounding categories, 100 strength, 100 block, 93 strength, and 97 PSD, I believed that as long as I had Jordan, I would have a good defense and a good rebounding team. With that, I could focus on building an offensive team that fit my system knowing I had the best defensive player in the league to cover for my other players' deficiencies. And while Jordan struggles a bit offensively, I have built a team that is more than capable of scoring despite my second best player being a defensive player.
In all, I feel as though I have constructed an elite team that covers for each other's deficiencies and plays to the same strengths. This has shown this season as I am currently 53-20 with a chance at a 60 win season. I'm leading the Pacific and the West overall and am currently on a 10 game winning streak. I have the firepower to beat any team in the playoffs. I felt as though this season, I took control of my team's destiny, and built a juggernaut. So please vote Bow for GMOY.
For seasons, the Milwaukee Bucks have been synonymous with the bottomfeeders of the league. Repeat lottery participants, barely able to get wins in the teens, tons of youth with no directions, and a collection of assets. However, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the Milwaukee Bucks rose from the pits of the Eastern Conference to the __ seed (TBD pending final sim). Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither was this squad. We could have sat back and let our young players continue to slowly grow into their own, continue to play the lotto game, and make development a priority over winning. However, this off-season, a metamorphosis occurred which shocked the culture of losing out of Milwaukee and put us back on the path to a future NBA title. With me at the helm, I helped to steer this ship back on course and ask that you consider me for your #1 option as GMOY.
Let's take the season step by step:
Draft Otto Porter - This was a no-brainer pick for us after just missing out on #1 overall. Porter had tons of potential and was a talented prospect on both ends of the court.
Trade #6 (acquired from Knicks) and "Broke Ass" Mike Conley for #9 and Cash Considerations - Looking at players available, Oladipo looked great, but from our perspective the drop off from him to one of the other guards that would be available 3 picks down was not substantial. Moving/shedding Conley's contract was a must for us. This was IMO one of our more underrated moves of the off-season, as it legitimately paved the way for what was to come.
Sold #22 to Portland for Cash - Small move, but important in light of needing to afford insurance premiums for young players
Trade Nikola Mirotic for Nando de Colo and Cash - With Kanter and Faried and about 3 tweener forwards, another developmental PF/SF wasn't necessary... but a backup guard never hurts. Nando would come into play again later on. And Cash Money baby.
Trade Khris Middleton, Andris Biedrins, KCP, and Bucks 2014 1st for Shaun Livingston - Probably one of our 2 biggest moves of the off-season. As mentioned in Shaun's nomination for 6th Man of the Year, Shaun has been the linchpin of our 2nd unit and helped fuel the turn around of our season. We did lose last season's #5 pick in Khris Middleton and this season's #9 in KCP, but with Nando coming in, KCP was less of a necessity and more of a luxury. Khris was a talented player, but with Porter and Barnes and lots of other scoring options, Khris's one-dimensional game was less needed on the team. Most importantly, trading for Livingston was a cultural shift move for this team, as we knew the time to strike was coming.
UFA signings of Carlos Boozer, et al - Signing Carlos Boozer was YUGE. We can't say that enough. We held numerous failed talks with other organizations where we would've had to pay a pretty penny to acquire a dominant PF, but in the end entered UFA Round 1 with lots of cash and only 1 major target. And we won the bid! So we went from adding a top PF to our squad by means of trading young/talented assets to adding a top PF to our squad through UFA that allowed us to keep our team in tact. That was huge. Not only that, but it crippled a division foe in the process (sorry Lincoln!). This was our biggest move of the year, and a franchise defining moment. We also signed some quality depth in JJ Barea, Kevin Seraphin, John Leur, and Josh Harrellson.
Slow start to the season - We came out looking like crap. We knew there would be speed bumps along the way, but man 1-7 start was not what we had in mind. After 2 sims we were 8-11, and really wondering if we made a mistake and rushed this thing. On top of that, promising center Enes Kanter got hurt for 2 sims. However, instead of blowing it up and trying to get our pick back, we decided to continue our push forward, make alterations to the gameplan, and fight on.
Trade Nando de Colo, JJ Barea, and Cash to Utah for Greivous Vasquez - We've always coveted Vasquez ever since we passed up on him in favor or Derrick Favors. In fact, we basically took Favors and turned him into Vasquez over the last 3 seasons (Favors for Mirotic, Mirotic for de Colo, de Colo for Vasquez). Vasquez helped us to continue to mold our identity of a fast pace, high motion, pass first team.
Trade Otto Porter for Draymond Green and Cash - This was a tough one for both parties. Porter is so young and untapped, but the allure of a defensive minded wing player who could be a top tier passer at his position swayed us. Draymond can come in and establish defensive dominance at the 3, or even small ball 4 if necessary. We wish Porter the best, but Draymond just looks to be a better fit for what this team is trying to do.
The Adjustments -Slow start and suffered injuries to starters that forced adjustments (see below)
Boozer at the 5
Faried at the 4
Porter/Draymond starting
bringing Livingston off the bench
shifting to high pace
focusing on attacking the inside.
The Turnaround - Since our 8-11 start and stated adjustments, the team is 39-20 since that tumultuous start (still 4 games left to play). Not only that we are poised to make a post season run and finally ready to give the fans in Milwaukee something to cheer for again. It's been a while since we've been in the post-season, but we are ready to come back and take charge
This organization would not be where it is today without all the calculated and measured moves and adaptive thinking that I, GM Ian Quailmen, brought to the table. That is why I humbly ask that you consider me as your next GMOY. Thank you.
I'm throwing my name in the ring as a strong candidate for GMOY. I'll keep this short, just promise you'll read my last few sentences if you don't read the rest.
*I am the Pacific division champion and the #1 seed in the Western conference, and finished with a 59-23 record. This while being predicted to finish behind the Clippers and Warriors in my division, let alone conference.
*I did this all without even having a player scoring 20ppg average, showcasing my teams balance.
*I make qualitative trades, not quantitative. My lone notable trade was sending Cousins and a Heat pick for Tyson Chandler and who would turn out to be Nerlens Noel. I was able to better myself currently as a top team in the league, while adding a top 5 pick in a draft to build the future! How many people can say this?
I may not be the most improved team, or the most sexy team with balanced players and no true star, or make the most trades, but dammit I work hard at building my team and this season has been a great reward. To see my team keep improving each season, and fielding this team, man I'm passionate about this game and I love this team.

Are we allowed to vote for GMOYs/MIPs/6MOYs that did not campaign? This has varied in year's past. I, for what it's worth am in favor of it...
Not really but if you wanna vote for guys not on the ballot after the campaign period ended, I'm not gonna stop ya and I'll count it.

That's not exactly fair.
That would mean in a 3 person race the person with the number two person could totally not include the front runner and purposely not give him points. Quit changing rules midseason please.
