2013-14 #SLOE Pick'em - Sim 6 - Due 5pm Central 3/31

Post by TheSyndicate »

Current Standings:
1. Atlantic - $3150
2. Pacific - $3050
3. Central - $2950
4. Midwest - $2550

This Sim's Division Representatives:
Atlantic: LogPMess
Central: RunningBack15
Midwest: FearTheBrow
Pacific: G Messi

You may claim a point if you provide a write-up/rationale for at least 5 picks - though feel free to do more! Otherwise, you're just competing for the divisional race which awards 5 points per GM in the winning division at the end of the season.

Pick the 10 games with the spread below from 1/24/14 and rank them in confidence from 10 (most confident) to 1 (least confident). You'll get 10pts for winning your most confident, 9 for second, etc. You will then be paid off the following scale:
1st - $1000
2nd - $600
3rd - $200
4th - Nothing but shame

The team with the minus number is the favorite (needs to win by at LEAST that number). The underdog just has to stay within that number. If the game is marked (pk) there is no spread.

A really good example of this being done was last week's thread, if you need a reference.

1/24/2014
Suns (pk) @ Raptors (pk)
Trailblazers @ Rockets (-5)
Cavaliers @ Hornets (-5)
Lakers @ Timberwolves (-5)
Bucks (pk) @ 76ers (pk)
Wizards (-6) @ Warriors
Jazz @ Nets (-4)
Pistons (pk) @ Magic (pk)
Clippers @ Kings (-7)
Knicks @ Hawks (-22)

Example of picks:
10. Cavs +5
9. Suns (pk)
8. Kings -7
etc.

I tried sending syndicate a message. It didn't work. I'm in Orlando both today and Monday. Does anyone from the Atlantic want to take my spot for this?

Actaully, so Garbageman and I decided to go halfsies on the point for working on this. We both had done our pick ems individually and sent them to each other on skype simultaneously. Shockingly we picked 9/10 the same result (including the Kings winning but not covering spread). The orders were a bit different but we worked out a combined, agreed upon order. I present to you... the Central Pick-em Colabboration!

10. Suns (pk) @ Raptors (pk)
IAmQuailMan: This will be a battle of bigs. Both teams are on fire right now, but I will give the edge to the deeper Phoenix squad despite being a road team.
GarbageMan: The Raptors will play good basketball this sim, but their strongest weapon, Chris Bosh, will be neutralized by Kevin Love. Even at home, I think the Suns have the extra pieces to get the job done. They emerged victorious by no small margin in their first meeting of the season, and with a deeper bench, think they sweep the series.

9. Lakers @ Timberwolves (-5)
IAQM: Lakers GM is neck deep in pre-WrestleMania beer at the moment and forgets to show up at this game. Timberwolves win.
GM: The Timberwolves aren't playing to win this year, but at home against a Lakers team who had the misfortune of trading for CJ Miles only to have CJ Miles immediately break his leg, they're going to take this one...even after dishing off Al-Farooq Aminu and Emeka Okafor.

8. Knicks @ Hawks (-22)
IAQM: Hawks win by 40 since the Knicks don't have anyone of a Shaun Livingston or Brandon Bass type player on their team.
GM: It's the best team in the league against the worst team in the league. It's a no brainer the Hawks will win the game, but the pick 'em is trickier because of the insane margin the Hawks have to win by. Everything points to them doing that, though. Gay and Anthony will be healthy again after some minor injuries.

7. Cavaliers @ Hornets (-5)
IAQM: Frye the Hornets. Cavs win outright because the amount of great contracts they have outweighs the Hornets.
GM: The Hornets looked a little better after the Mozgov deal with the Suns, and their home record is decent in comparison to the Cavs atrocious road record, but moving Ryan Anderson for a bunch of smaller pieces shows the Hornets are more interested in the future than the present.

6. Wizards (-6) @ Warriors
IAQM: Warriors recently acquired stretch 4 Ryan Anderson and I think that's great and all. But Wizards are a well oiled machine and Warriors are gonna have to figure it out
GM: The Wizards recently swapped JaVale McGee for Andres Biedrins to bolster their starting lineup while the Warriors added some 3 point fire-power with Ryan Anderson. However, they're going to have to make some room for Ryno. His defense is too weak to guard a SF, and the Warriors offensive and defensive strengths play well against a lot of teams, but not so much the Wizards.

5. Jazz @ Nets (-4)
IAQM: Nets win but in a nailbiter, don't cover the points though.
GM: While the Jazz still aren't the most complete team, they've got the pieces in the right places to beat the Nets. Plus I hold the Nets 2014 pick, so a lot of this is wishful thinking.

4. Trailblazers @ Rockets (-5)
IAQM: What a tough, both teams struggling. But I'm going with the Rockets aka home team.
GM: This is a hard game to predict. The Trailblazers were able to pull off an impressive run in the playoffs sans Ron Artest due to the play of Derrick Rose. Houston has lost some head-scratchers at home, but I like the scoring matchups here. D-Rose will light it up, but I think the scoring combo of Horford and Lawson will be able to edge out those 5 points while Brewer and Deng play good defense on each other.

3. Bucks (pk) @ 76ers (pk)
IAQM: SAVE THE DATE. Bucks win in a close one, the sixers give us fits always. This is a must C game though.
GM: I did have the 76ers in a coin flip since their previous games have been close and the home team always just snuck it out, but Doug was pretty cool with comboing this pick 'em since I had already filled one out in anticipation of RB15 not submitting one and failed to return to the chat in time to see that Ryan had already accounted for this contingency and drafted Doug to do it. Boozer has a monster game.

2. Pistons (pk) @ Magic (pk)
IAQM: Coinflip.
GM: In a straight up match here, I'm going with the Magic over the Pistons if the Magic are at home. They haven't met before, but it's going to be a frontcourt vs. backcourt match, and for whatever reason, the Pistons have not been able to capitalize on having two dominant bigs in their lineup.

1. Clippers (Kings win, don't cover spread) @ Kings (-7)
IAQM: As much as I agree that Parsons is vastly better than Kawhi Leonard and Jimmy BuCCCCCCCCCCkets, Durant is going to give Parsons fits. Kings win, but in a close battle that doesn't cover points.
GM: I think the Kings might win the game, but maybe not by 7. They have got a great team, but they don't have someone who can keep KD in check.

Someone more official should tabulate this, but by my count, Central came in 1st, Atlantic 2nd, and Midwest 3rd? Is that right?
