2013-14 #SLOE Pick'em - Sim 1 - Due 5pm Central 3/20

Post by TheSyndicate »

Current Standings:
1-3 (tie). Central/Midwest/Atlantic - $600
4. Pacific - $0

Division Representatives:
Atlantic: Inner_GI
Central: Iamquailman
Midwest: 78#
Pacific: NOLa.

Just like the pre-season sim pick'em, your job is to pick the 5 teams with the highest win% for the sim, and 5 teams with the lowest. If you need help, you can reference that thread here.

You may claim a point if you provide a write-up/rationale. Otherwise, you're just competing for the divisional race which awards 5 points per GM in the winning division at the end of the season.

Payouts:
Highest Win percentage of 5 'BEST' teams picked
1st - $500
2nd - $300
3rd - $100

Lowest Win% of 5 'WORST' teams picked
1st - $500
2nd - $300
3rd - $100
6 Rings. That's it. That's the tweet.

Bucks Picks:

BEST:
1. Atlanta Hawks - Same.
2. Miami Heat - They have probably one of the most talented rosters in the NBA, definitely the most expensive. And at least for this first sim, that money will buy them some Ws.
3. Toronto Raptors - Chris Bosh. Fa Real. Not to mention, he's got a very manageable schedule to open the season. Lots of hope games and teams with negative point differentials.
4. Utah Jazz - Is this the season where everything comes together for em? They have a nice schedule to open up (Wolves twice, Sixers twice, Lakers, Knicks, Mavericks, Celtics... Celtics probably being the toughest). 5 of those games are road games, but I think they manage to gets some wins.
5. Phoenix Suns - Interesting to watch how this unfolds. They have a great starting 5, lacking a bit in the depth department. But they have a nice opening schedule (outside of away games at Clippers twice on a back to back wtf lol)

WORST:
1. VanMemphis Grizzlies - Grizzlies got assfukt in training camp. They are going to need some time to figure out how the pieces fit since Jimmy and Kawhi look like shells of their former selves. The only non playoff team from last sseason they face are the new look Pistons... not an easy surface to start a 1000 piece puzzle with.
2. Dallas Mavericks - Things aren't looking very sunny in Big D. They had a rough training camp. At least they get a fresh start with regular season.... oh wait, 6 straight road games to open it up? At least they get to go home after that for a few.... to host the reigning Champs. Conspiracy theorists are out saying the league is setting the Mavericks up to fail... and it sure looks that way.
3. Los Angeles Lakers - They definitely won the off-season by getting Giannis with the 1st overall pick. Now it's going to be a wait-and-see game with them. This season won't be fun. 6 away games (does playing LAC actually count as an away?) and 3 home games to start the season points to rough days ahead.
4. Orlando Magic - Mathews, Dragic, and Scola.. that's about all this team has going for em right now. They start the season with 10 games in 17 days. 7 of those games are road games. Home games are Bulls, Rockets, Heat. No guarantees there, but definitely an uphill climb.
5. Sacramento Kings - Historically, they always shit the bed to start the season before inevitably turning it around and making the playoffs. GM NOLa. is not afraid to try things out in the beginning, experiment with his toys. However, this first sim is jam packed with Pacific rivals and playoff caliber teams. Warriors twice, Blazers twice, Sonics, Rockets, Nuggets, Grizzlies, Suns. 4 games away, 5 at home.
6 Rings. That's it. That's the tweet.

Five Highest:

1. Hawks - I'd be absolutely shocked if a team with Duncan, Garnett, Gasol, Noah, Melo, Gay, Line, and Robinson didn't go undefeated with only 2 road games.
2. Heat - They are a top team with no depth. Luckily, I don't foresee a major injury happening in the first sim.
3. Wizards - Tracy McGrady on a min contract. They better win some games, and only 3 on the road.
4. PIstons - They had a great Training camp, but have a tough schedule. I'm going with a risk here, because I believe this team can finally be good.
5. Raptors - Bosh and Lowry. Yea. I think they will be fine, plus a lot of home games to start sim 1.

Five Lowest:

1. Kings - Tani always starts slow. He'll find a way to do it again
2. Rockets - Sure they are adding Brandon Bass, but they play 5 of 8 games on the road
3. Timberwolves - They will just be a bad team this year
4. Pacers - Deron can't do everything, but he certainly will try. Bucks in line for another top pick that isn't their own.
5. Knicks - This is me praying to the sim gods to finally let me suck. PLEASE LET ME TANK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kings Picks:

BEST:
1. Miami Heat - The Heat last season said TO HELL WITH THE TAX MAN last season and continue to ride that sentiment. I don see many teams in the East beating the Heat.

2. LA Clippers - Reigning defending champs start off strong on this opening sim. Just have a feeling.

3. Atlanta Hawks - This team has been at the top of the game for a while now all over again. Don't think this changes in this upcoming sim no matter who they play and where.

4. Toronto Raptors - Anytime you have the MVP, you're going to compete in this league. Bosh got better this season after TC (wtf). Pretty soft schedule for the new look Raptors, look for Sound to make a bold statement on opening sim.

5. San Antonio Spurs - The Spurs were already good and they just seem to get bette every season with this young core. In a wide open Midwest besides the Spurs this is Eazys division once again.

WORST:
1. Sacramento Kings - You can say I'm trying to reverse curse, but this is acceptance. My team is not good on opening sims. Some of my best teams in all of sim league have had horrible starts. It is what it is.

2. VanMemphis Grizzlies - I don get why this game can be so cruel. For a GM with two of the most promising young wings in the game, it turns out they just don't train well together. TC hurt the team, and it looks like another rough year for the Grizz.

3. Milwaukee Bucks - Just call it a hunch.

4. Orlando Magic - Don't really know too much about this team, but someone has to lose. It's been a while since the Magic competed in this league and I don't think this is going to magically change with no real turnaround.

5. Dallas Mavericks - I don't know how this could get any worse for the Mavs. After giving a contract to Jrue in RFA after many inefficient seasons, Jrue tanks TC without insurance to save him. Other than Demar, I don't see much else on this team and the Mavs may be the early favorites to be the worst team in the league.

Five best

1. Hawks - most talent and a lot of home games. Should see some savage stuff.

2. Blazers - Very talented team. A lot of home games. I think they can do well.

3. Kings - Had a great preseason. I can seem them building on it. With plenty of home games.

4. Clippers - Don't be fooled. They have Durant. Plenty of home game and a road game against the Bucks.

5. Raptors - New look team ready to make some noise. It starts today.

Five Worst shortly

Five worst

1. Mavs - Tough schedule. Many road games.

2. Rockets - too many road games. Not enough offense.

3. Nets - Many road games and the game has listed them as the worst.

4. Lakers. New season. Recommended DC may help on the road. Maybe not.

5. Hornets - Thaddeus Young will break his heart eventually.
