Milwaukee Bucks 2013-2014 Pre-Season Presser

Post by IamQuailman »

GM: Good morning everyone. Last season was definitely forgettable; so let's jump to the very busy off-season. Despite having the worst record in the league, we managed to secure the #2 overall pick in the draft. That pick netted us Otto Porter, Jr. and officially earned out team the nickname "Wing Shack". Otto comes in and can make a definite impact on our squad, and brings an infusion of rebounding and defense at the 3 that we were lacking. We used the Knicks pick (#6) paired with Mike Conley's contract to trade back to #9, where we selected Kentavious Caldwell Pope. Next we parted ways with Nikola Mirotic, sending him to the Bulls for their swingman Nando de Colo. With the acquisition of Nando, KCP became somewhat "gettable" despite just joining the team. This was important, because KCP would be packaged with Andris Biedrins, Khris Middleton and our 2014 1st to bring in Shaun Livingston, a player long coveted by our organization for his size, athleticism and skillset.

GM: And that only wraps up draft day! Once the draft ended, we had a flurry of discussions across the league to bring in a superstar. Unfortunately (but not really unfortunate), those talks all fell through and we ending up landing dominating big man, Carlos Boozer. This was clearly the a huge win for our franchise, and points us in the right direction in terms of competing for a division crown, as well as NBA title. A few other notable signings were JJ Barea, Kevin Seraphin, Jon Leuer, Josh Harrelson, and Nick Fazekas.

GM: Training camp has some stellar results, as everyone came in in great shape and super motivated. They can see the writing on the wall that the Bucks are back, babay! We are looking forward to an exciting season, with more typically unpredictable Milwaukee Magic coming the league's way. Get ready!

GM: Now we are open for questions.

What are you goals for the upcoming draft?

Carlos Boozer looked dominant in your preseason games, but his price tag is pretty high for the next few years. Do you think you need players like Kyrie, Kemba, and Enes Kanter to fully actualize before the Boozer signing pays off, and does that happen before Carlos starts losing his edge?

We are looking towards the season, not the draft (finally can say that with a straight face)

We are hoping that Boozer's veteran presence not only on the court but in the lockerroom helps the NBA's youngest team's maturity grow. Both Kyrie and Kemba have shown flashes of excellence in the last couple seasons. Enes, to be honest, has been one of our biggest surprises, in that he continues to improve and could become on of the better defensive/rebounding big men in the league. He's working on his offensive game, but having Carlos next to him takes the pressure off of him to score the basket. Just focus on what you do and let the offensive game come organically.

GWR: Harrison Barnes had a great training camp and seemed to go from extra wing to potential star SF. Did that change any of your future plans?

We always had high hopes to Harrison, which is why we rather have kept him over Middleton when it came to trading. Barnes brings some defense and rebounding to that position, and we think he could potentially develop into a nice bench option for us... not only at the 3 but possibly stretch 4 at some point. We look forward to watching his game grow!

Random Dallas reporter:

You've got a lot of wings on the roster. Do you foresee more trades this season, or are you stockpiling depth for a postseason run?

It's always great to have some versatility. We aren't currently engaged in talks at the moment, but we are always listening. But at the moment, we are very pleased with our depth on the wing.

The Milwaukee roster construction is definitely interesting. How do you see the rotation and gameplan playing out?

It'll definitely be a work in progress, especially with our guards and wings. I think pretty much bulk minutes will be going to Enes and Carlos down low, with backup minutes going to the Manimal. The wing, we'll will play out sim by sim. Heading into the season, we may give Otto a shot to start, and bring Shaun off the bench as a super sub, but we aren't 100% sure if that's what we'll do.
