Since 1990, the PBSL has been the forefront of basketball excellence. And although games are won by the players, the teams are built by the GM/coaches. Over 40 GMs have taken on the task of building winning programs, and while championships are the best way to measure that success, regular season wins are significant as well. To that end, I have analyzed the records of all of our GMs and have arbitrarily decided to look at those GMs who have won over 1000 games in PBSL, as well as analyze other metrics of GM success.
A brief note on this: I am fully aware that 1000 wins is not only a measure of success, but is also a measure of longevity. After all, a .500 record for a GM who has completed every season is 931-931 at this point. But I have elected to look at this number because only 6 GMs are currently a member of the club, and also because 1000 is such a pretty number.
Without further ado, here are the 6 members of the 1000 win club:
1. Wig Nosy
1130-733 (60.7%)
Playoff Appearances: 16
Championships: 4
Six times. Six times in twenty-two seasons (soon to be twenty-three) have the Hawks failed to make the playoffs. In fact, they have almost made as many finals appearances (five). Wig has consistently found ways to create dominant teams in every which way possible: dominant offensive teams, dominant defensive teams, he's done it all. He reached the 1000 win club in 2010.
2. NOLa.
1119-742 (60.1%)
Playoff Appearances: 17
Championships: 1
Tani has missed the playoffs even fewer times. He's put together 7 60-win seasons and another 6 50-win seasons. I guess that's one way to climb the win leaderboard. He missed two playoffs in a row recently, but that looks to be behind him now that his players are maturing. He reached the 1000 win club in 2009, in the midst of his worst season.
3. Conroy
1086-775 (58.4%)
Playoff Appearances: 18
Championships: 2
The Celtics are the type of team who can surprise you every year. Only 4 seasons out of the playoffs, which is three less than the seasons he has at least reached the conference finals. Some may assume that his heyday was the 90s, where he won his two titles. And while it is true that he won 4 straight 60-win seasons in that campaigns in that decade, he also made the league finals in 2007 and the conference finals last year. He reached the 1000 win club in 2010.
4. BowtotheBill
1047-663 (61.2%)
Playoff Appearances: 16
Championships: 2
Our first GM on the list who has not been a GM every season of our league. Even taking a season off, he has still found a way to place 4th on the all-time wins list. He missed 5 straight playoffs, but that was after making 13 straight from the onset of the league, including two rings. The Warriors are always a threat to go deep into the playoffs. He reached the 1000 win club in 2011.
5. JNR
1021-842 (54.8%)
Playoff Appearances: 16
Championships: 0
Undeniably the least impressive GM in the club, his lack of rings is obviously what sets him apart from the rest. He has had two strings of three-year playoff skids, but surrounding those is reliable playoff appearances. Of course, he's only gotten to the first round 8 straight years, soon to be 9, so his appearance on this list is more an aberration than anything. He reached the 1000 win club this year.
6. Eazy P
1009-854 (54.2%)
Playoff Appearances: 15
Championships: 1
Eazy's ring last year was a perfect preamble to him joining this club. Eazy has made numerous Conference and League Finals, but last year's last second win sealed his fate as a HOF-worthy GM, and his entrance into this club over the past few weeks was a mere formality.
NEXT IN LINE
If you imagine the club as a nightclub with a long line wrapping around the street, the following GMs are those who will likely be joining this list soon:
Ballsohard
995-703 (58.6%)
Playoff Appearances: 14
Championships: 4
Clearly he will make this club next sim, and the only reason he hasn't done it already is he retired for a few seasons.
Soundwave
973-888 (52.3%)
Playoff Appearances: 14
Championships: 1
With only 27 wins left but only 15 this season, he won't break it this year. But his rookies may be ready for next year, when he can enter this club.
Quailman
949-913 (51.0%)
Playoff Appearances: 14
Championships: 1
Only 51 wins away for the Bucks. The only problem is, his max wins for the past three seasons sits at 22. He may end up getting access to this club before the league shuts down.
Well there you have it. Here are the GMs who have been around the longest and won the most. Congrats to all of the great GMs and also to The JNR who I guess did okay.
