Inaugural NOLa.'s Yearly Player Recognition Awards

Post by NOLa. »

Syndicate's 2011-12 Rookie of the Year Rankings article was great, and it really sparked an idea I had when reading it: wouldn't it be neat if we had an Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year award like the NFL has? Unfortunately, the game does account for this. So to makeup ground on where the game drops-off, let me introduce you to NOLa.'s Yearly Player Recognition Awards!

The reward for the GM who owns one of these players is +1 points straight from the Sacramento Kings Bank! Campaigning for your players are very welcomed and enecouraged, and no post limits will be enacted.

To begin what I hope will be a voluntary seasonal award campaign, I will introduce 3 inaugural awards.

Most Valuable Player to Overall Team Success

I know we already have the MVP award, and for the record I think the computer does a great job of selecting the best overall players for the entire season. As a charitable contribution to the league, I also want to recognize the player who contributes to the overall team success. Some players may never be considered an MVP candidate because they don't score 30 points per game, however, they arguably contribute more than these offensive juggernauts. I will take a look at team's star players, record, and dominance at position.

Below, I will list several of the top candidates I am looking at as we near the end of the season. These are not the only players in contention for this award, and I am still scouting some of the top players in this game to hopefully get a good beginning compilation:

* Kevin Durant - SF - Los Angeles Clippers: 37 ppg; 56% FG; overwhelming favorite to win Pacific division
* Tyson Chandler - C - Philadelphia 76ers: league leader in rebounds; top 10 in rebounds and FG%; team currently fighting for #1 overall record
* Chris Bosh - PF - Minnesota Timberwolves: #2 in ppg and #3 in FG%; team traded star Carlos Boozer and is currently #1 overall record
* Deron Williams - PG - Indianapolis Pacers: #1 in apg; #7 in ppg and 3P%; sitting at 42 wins compared to 40 total last season already

Offensive Rookie Player of the Year

Again, these are not the only players in contention for this award. Campaigning is welcomed and encouraged.

* Klay Thompson - SG - Denver Nuggets: 19.4ppg-2.1apg; 45% FG; league leader in FT%
* Kyrie Irving - SG - Milwaukee Bucks: 20ppg-2.9spg; 39 FG%
* Kenneth Faried - PF - New York Knicks: 12ppg-2.7orb; 49% FG
* Jimmy Butler - SG - VanMemphis Grizzlies: 17.6ppg-3.3apg 49% FG
* Isaiah Thomas - PG - Seattle SuperSonics: 15.9ppg-5.0apg; 41.7% FG

Defensive Rookie Player of the Year

Again, these are not the only players in contention for this award. Campaigning is welcomed and encouraged.

* Kawhi Leonard - SF - VanMemphis Grizzlies: 2 spg; 11.1% RR
* Nikola Vuchevic - C - Detroit Pistons: 0.8bpg and 0.6spg; 13.0% RR
* Tristan Thompson - PF - New Jersey Nets: 0.7bpg and 0.5spg; 15.6% RR

Do you have a star or rookie player you think deserves mention in any of the above categories? Awards will be announced at the end of the season and points transferred to their respective teams.
