One of the most coveted awards in PBSL, besides the championship of course, is the General Manager of the Year Award. It gives credit not only to a GM's ability to acquire talent, but to put them in the right position. We could write theses and novels on what the qualifications are for a GMOY, but that's not what this article is about. Instead, I wanted to analyze the GMOY voting process every year and see if the winner of GMOY was a good indicator of winning a title. I'm going to present a table that shows the season, the GMOY as voted by other GMs (the official one), the GMOY as selected by the computer (unofficial), and which GM actually won the title that year. Then I'm going to make some observations based on the table.
* The Computer has predicted a champion through GMOY once, in 1998 (THANKS TANI)
* The leader for most Official GMOY wins is Ballsohard with 3. The winner for most Unofficial GMOY wins with 4 is Bowtothebill, who has never won an official vote.
* Only once has the computer and the voters agreed: in 1999, when your humble writer won both.
* There have been 14 Official GMOY. Of those 14, 8 have won a championship in any year.
* There are 5 GMs who have won multiple Official GMOYs: Ballsohard (3), DarthVegito (2), JNR (2), TheSyndicate (2), and WigNosy (2). Of those five, only JNR has never won a title.
* The year RoboGM1 won an unofficial GMOY, the Sixers were 31-51. I have no idea what the computer liked about them.
