New Jersey Nets 2009 Preseason Presser

Post by RPF »

Welcome to the 2009 New Jersey Nets preseason press conference. First of all we would like to congratulate the Milwaukee Bucks on their first championship. With that out of the way, it's now time to talk Nets.

Last season we hoped to win the division, conference and championship. We completed step one but fell short of steps two and three. The Atlantic division was very open last season and came down to the last sim when we barely beat out the Celtics. Jameer was the leader of the team and constantly challenged us to get better. Chris held down the paint with his defense and rebounding. Ricky Davis and Mike Miller provided us with the scoring one two punch. After losing in the playoffs we had to make some tough decisions.

We are proud to announce that we have made a trade with The Kings to acquire Tracy McGrady for Mike Miller, Timofey Mozgov and our 2012 1st round pick. We hope the addition of McGrady will put this team over the top. We have a goal in mind and that is to bring a championship here to New Jersey. We will no rest until that is accomplished. The floor is now open to questions.

With adding perhaps one of the better players to ever play the game in T-Mac, what do you expect your offense to look like this coming season?

As a GM that's been here since the beginning, do you think this is your most talented team yet? Is this the best chance you put yourself to win a ring?

The JNR: Do you expect there to be some issues between Jameer, Kaman, and TMac about who runs the show?

Sports Guy Bill Simmons here, is this the most talented/competitive you've seen the Atlantic Division, perhaps ever?

Good question and I would have to say it is. We are looking forward to see how McGrady works with Jameer and Chris.

Gerald Wallace and Lamar Odom are guys that seem to have never put up numbers that reflect their talent. What do you see as their role on your squad?

Those guys are the glue to our team. What they contribute might not show up in the stats column but are a key part of what we do here. They have a lot of heart and leave it out on the floor every night.

Are you worried about T-Mac's history of choking?
I still got all my fingers but somewhere I lost my mind.

Did you think in a million years you would have acquire Tmac? How do Jameer and Kaman feel about him joining the Nets?
There were rumors about Jameer almost being traded before the Tmac trade because he was disappointed his good friend Ricky Davis didn't resign with the team, what do you have to say about those rumors and did he ask to be traded?

Random Dallas reporter:

You've done a nice job of staying the course and developing your core players over the past several seasons. Now you finally have that superstar to complement the core. Do you plan on adding any more pieces to the puzzle by the trade deadline? Or are you all in at this point?

We are always looking to improve the team. When we drafted Jameer and Chris we made a commitment to them to do everything in our power to give them the best team possible.

You went 3-3 in the preseason, what's your backup plan if you start out the same way through the first couple months?
6 Rings. That's it. That's the tweet.

A lot of hoopla about your division. I'm not sure why. Pacific still much better. You are tons better than the next best team in your division. I predict you winning the division by at least 6 games. What do you think?

Thanks but I wouldn't say say that. Plenty of great GMs call the Atlantic home.

Your use of the words "plenty"and "great"...must be different definitions that I'm used to.
