Sacramento Kings Preseason Presser

Post by NOLa. »

Welcome to another edition of the Sacramento Kings' Preseason Media Release! We are unfortunately pressed for time so we'll get right into the thick of things.

We ended our season in the sixth game of the second round in Utah, where we fell short of expectations. Every season we are in the hunt for the championship with our core of Tracy McGrady, Tyson Chandler, and Kirk Hinrich in their primes, but we were unable to adjust as necessary and were eliminated by the Duncan led Jazz.

Heading into the offseason, I had a few big decisions I knew I had to make, especially in RFA. I entered the draft knowing I needed to be proactive in getting another pick or two in the back half of the first round. I was able to draft Mbah a Moute and DJ Augustin to help keep a steady supply of young guys that may be able to contribute in a season or two. Right now, they will not be looked at as immediate threats to playing time.

For RFA, the Magic won the bids for Luol Deng and Shaun Livingston. It was an unusual circumstance, but we were able to come to terms to send both to Orlando for rookie Eric Gordon and more established CJ Miles. We are happy with our depth at the guard position where we have not had the most relevant stable in.

UFA brought a lot of good vets to the team, including Maggette, Woods, Bradley and Miller. We were able to stockpile on vet mins to address the need at PF and backup C, and excited for the upcoming season.

Questions are welcomed, especially from the KFC.

GWR: In years prior you have had Luol Deng, a more defensive minded wing starting at SF. What adjustments will you make to maximize Corey Maggette's strengths, which are clearly on the offensive end?

Moving on from Shareef, who had lost a step last season, I immediately felt the need to get someone either in free agency or trade to pick up the slack. If nonw of those worked, I was hopeful either Chandler or Hinrich, or combination of both, would step up their scoring production.

Maggette provides me with a second option I feel comfortable with. Tracy is the clear #1, but it's nice to have another potential scoring option on offense.

Colonel Sanders here. What will be your excuse for not winning it all this year? Will the injuries that every team gets be the focus or something new, perhaps T Mac having surgery to fix that lazy eye. Inquiring minds want to know.

We would be too tired from beating the Sonics in record and head-to-head for the 19th season in a row.

Do you have any advice to your division opponent the Warrior on their eternal rebuild and how to break the cycle?

It's tough not winning without the greatest player of all time. This is what being a regular GM like me has to go through each season, but the best of us keep up our winning ways.
