Clippers Presser

Post by aburns211 »

Last season was with a doubt, disappointing. I didn't expect a championship, but I thought we would be competitive. It didn't seem like we could ever get anything going. We never want to put a losing product on the floor for our fans; so it was a frustrating season. The good news is that we were in the lottery and had a chance to land the coveted #1 draft pick. Despite the odds against us as we started in the 6th position; we won!! We beat the odds and landed the #1 selection. With that pick we chose the obvious selection of Kevin Durant, from the University of Texas.

We think Kevin can play with some of the best in the league right now and he is only 19 years old. The future is bright in LA! There is a new level of excitement around the club offices; we hope Kevin can lead our team to many years of success.

We heard that Dirk Nowitzki was available for sign and trade and we jumped on the opportunity. We hated giving away a draft pick, but I feel it will be worth it to bring in someone of Dirk's caliber. I also think having a veteran all-star to mentor Kevin could never hurt.

We had a glaring weakness at point guard; so we made a small deal to bring in Raymond Felton. Raymond was a lottery pick a couple years ago and we are hoping he can turn into a quality player. We also drafted Aaron Brooks late in the 1st round of the rookie draft; he shows some promise and made strides in training camp but he's still a year or two out from making an impact on the floor. If that wasn't enough we added veterans Howard Eisley and Jalen Rose to play minutes at point guard or shooting guard.

It remains to be seen how this new team will mesh together but we are excited about the season and can't wait to get started!

Any questions?

Random Reporter: With Durant now the centerpiece of the team and Francisco Garcia beginning to show signs of improvement, it would seem that DerMarr Johnson is the odd man out. What is his role as a Clipper, both now and in the future?

I wouldn't say he is necessarily the odd man out. We are going to try Durant at the 4. If things go smoothly then Dermarr isn't going anywhere. However, if it doesn't work out then we may be looking at trade options for Dermarr.

What do you plan on doing at the PG position?

Do you think Dirk will be able to sustain his production and ability to be an effective big for the duration of his contract. Was the Pacers pick in the next draft class essential for the Spurs to part ways with the German sharp shooter?

Raymond Felton will get the start at point. Jalen Rose will get significant minutes there as well. He showed the ability to play the position well earlier in his career and we're hoping he can do the same for us.

The best way I can answer that question is; I am confident that the contract given to Dirk will be worth it. But ultimately, who knows what will happen between now and the end of the contract.

Not sure if it was essential, but I don't believe they would have accepted less.

I think this is a fun question and a chance for others to get creative. So pardon if repetitive...

Do you have any special giveaways on the docket this season? There are only so many times we as fans can receive a white tshirt with the local ambulance chaser's logo on the back. How do you plan on mixing it up for your fanbase?
