Milwaukee Bucks 06-07 Presser

GM Quailmen: Welcome back everyone, welcome back! Another off-season and I stand in front of you without a championship trophy to show. We felt like last year was the year; we were all in and really thought there was a good possibility to come home with that shiny gold and rings to show off. However, we fell short against a very capable and strong Sacramento squad, and we wish to congratulate them on their victory *mutters mother fvckers inaudibly*

GM Quailmen: So here we go. Off-Season Recap! Fresh off the disappointing loss in the Finals, we were approached by the Nuggets regarding Chauncey Billups. We knew that re-signing him would be a costly move, and would almost definitely put us in the position of luxury tax hell, which we like to try to avoid if possible. When the Nuggets GM mentioned Gilbert Arenas in the deal, I had flashbacks. Or deja vu. Or memories of a previous life coming back to me. I don't know why, but the name "Gilbert Arenas" tickles my nutsack like no oth--- I mean, we just really liked the game that Gilbert Arenas has. So this trade proposal literally set the tone for our off-season. It helped make trading Samaki Walker away for Loren Woods easier. Every move made and every offer sent was made under the assumption that Chauncey would take the Nuggets desired contract offer in FA. I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous when the Day 1 approached and a decision was about to be announced. Once he re-signed, it was all smooth sailing from there. We bid Chauncey and Eddie Griffin a nice and tearful farewell, and we welcome Gilbert and Jerome James to the fold.

GM Quailmen: Free agency was also kind to us, in that Nick Van Exel decided to take his talents to the Key. Losing Chauncey, we were a little concerned with our 1 spot. Manu could spot fill, as could Beno. But neither are ready to take the full time position. So the fact that Nick Van Exel was ready to join our squad was a huge relief. We also brought back fan favorite Royal Ivey, who was traded last season for Kenny Thomas. Also signing with us was Eddie Gill, Jeff Trepagnier, and Michael Bradley... all of which provide some youth and depth for our squad.

GM Quailmen: Lastly, we were fortunate to work with the Wizards in a draft day trade to move up and grab Adam Morrison. We feel in a few seasons, Adam could be a great asset off the bench.

GM Quailmen: The floor is now open for questions!

Random Reporter: How do you plan to address the issue of a thin frontcourt? Will Amare move back to the 4, or do you have other ideas? Adding to this, how effective do you think Loren Woods can be coming off of a broken leg?

Thanks for the question! The front court may be thin, but we feel that we have a nice 5 player rotation with Jerome and Loren handling the primary duties of the 5. Amare will primarily be focused on the Power Forward position, but can spot play Center if necessary. Kenny was good for us off the bench last season, one of the reasons we were ok with parting with Eddie Griffin in the off-season. If injuries occur, we may have to entertain some options then, but for right now, we like where we are at for depth.

As for Loren, he's not having any residual or lingering issues so far. BUT, he's not "out of the woods" yet.... derp. We are going to work him along slowing to start out the season, having a minute restriction on him.

New Jersey Reporter: How excited were you once you struck a deal to bring Gilbert Arenas to Milwaukee?

A lot of people in Milwaukee are concerned with your cap figure even after opting not to reisgn Chauncey. What steps are you going to take to not end up like the Orlando Magic?

Incredibly. Between Gilbert and Amare, we have some of the most athletically gifted players in the league on one team. Gilbert's inside-out game fits perfectly with what Amare, Ron, and Manu all do, and we think he could possibly be shoe-in for the 6MOY award this season.

First of all, please do not compare us to the penny pinching, half-assery of the Orlando Magic. If we are gunna rebuild/tank, we make sure to get our pick back. Hands down. PUH-LEASE.

Secondly, cap is always a concern. With this seasons cap jump being a measly 2-3% raise, being some what cognizant of your financial standing long term and short is of the utmost importance. Were some of our moves that were made done with the sole purpose of the cap? Yes. Samaki unfortunately was one of those moves. But Chauncey, while losing him stinks, would have crippled our financial situation long-term, and I don't want to go 200-300 in the hole on a tax bill or get stuck with a 5-year max for a player that will be 35 or older at the end of that deal.

I had the pleasure of having Nick Van Exel on my squad for multiple seasons. He is not only a great player in his own right but he makes those around him even better. How did he look in camp? Does he still have it at age 34?

Surprisingly well. When he reported to camp, we were shopped that at his age his conditioning is better than some of those guys at the ripe old age of 24! I think he still has plenty of gas left in the tank!

Confirmed. Dude has all kinds of "cigar" issues.
There's no "I" in team, but you can find "Eat me" if you push it too far.
