2005 FREE AGENCY ROUND 1 (due 12/24 @ noon CDT)

Post by IamQuailman »

WHERE AND HOW TO SUBMIT BIDS:

Bids should be submitted to The Negotiator via Private Message (click here to send a Private Message to The Negotiator). This Private message should have the subject "TEAM NAME- Free Agent Bids 2005" (substitute your team's name for the words "TEAM NAME" in quotes). Place all of your Free Agent bids in a single message, with one entry per line, formatted as follows:

Player Name; Initial Year's Salary; Yearly Raise Percentage; Total Number of Years; (if desired: Team Option/Player Option)

For example, the Hawks' Private Message should have:

Subject:
Hawks - Free Agent Bids 2005, Round 1"

Body:
Eric Montross; $7,632,314; 12.5%; 5
Khalid Reeves; $7,632,314; 10.0%; 4
Brooks Thompson; $3,000,000; 3.5%; 2

RULES ON LEGAL BIDS:

Each team may submit up to ten (10) bids. Bids in excess of ten will be ignored.

The maximum starting salary that can be offered to a player is based on his years of experience. You may check this amount using http://pbsl.ijbl.net/check.htm and entering his years of experience.

If a player ended last season on your team AND his player page says he has at least 3 Bird Years, your team has "Bird Rights" with that player.

For players to which your team holds Bird Rights:
  • A starting salary of up to the maximum for a player with his years of service regardless of cap situation.
  • Yearly raises of 0% to 12.5%, in increments of 0.5% (i.e., 0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5% etc.)
  • Contract lengths of anywhere from 1 to 5 years.
  • If desired, may designate the final year of a multi-year deal as "team option" or "player option" (if neither is selected, the default is "guaranteed")
For players to which your team does NOT hold Bird Rights:
  • A starting salary up to the current maximum for a player with his years of service (use http://pbsl.ijbl.net/check.htm to check this) OR the amount of salary cap space your team has available (use http://pbsl.ijbl.net/capreport.htm to check this), whichever is LESS. If your team has no cap space remaining, you are still permitted to offer contracts for the "minimum" (varies based on a player's years of experience) in the first year. Minimum contracts may still offer multiple years at the minimum.
  • Yearly raises of 0% to 10.0% in increments of 0.5% (i.e., 0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5% etc.)
  • Contract lengths of anywhere from 1 to 4 years.
  • If desired, may designate the final year of a multi-year deal as "team option" or "player option" (if neither is selected, the default is "guaranteed")

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

For 2005 minimum salary amounts, please refer to quoted list below.

0 - $399,749
1 - $583,845
2 - $678,522
3 - $710,081
4 - $741,640
5 - $815,279
6 - $899,436
7 - $973,074
8 - $1,051,972
9 - $1,208,768
10+ - $1,251,847

Also, remember the new rule change in which if you re-sign a player that played for you in the previous season, that player may be eligible for trade immediately, throughout off-season, preseason, sims 1 and 2, and beyond (immune to the Dec 15 trade restriction).

PS - Please, if you havent submitted yet, please please please put the names in alphabetical order. It helps streamline inputting (and ensures no one gets accidentally skipped). There's no search/hot key function when inputting; so if it's out of order, you have to keep scrolling up and down and up and down looking for players.

Interesting to see some of the major FAs not get max bids from their incumbent teams (Davis, Thomas, Shaq, Kobe, etc)

Honestly, the S&T market for Shaq was nonexistent. I just didn't want to max him and get left holding the massive tax bill when the rest of the league said "nope, you can keep him." Same goes for AJ, nobody wanted him, so I decided not to risk re-signing him and having to pay for it.

I 100% understand. It was more Davis and Thomas that shocked me more than anything. But this is what makes FA so crazy

Davis is coming off a broken leg and his attribute numbers dropped across the board. I wasn't going to max him.
