Trade Happy

Post by aburns211 »

I did an analysis of every finalized trade in our league for the last 3 years. My goal was two-fold : 1) to determined which GMs were the most open to trades and which GMs like to build from within their franchise 2) to see which GMs have been involved in the most meaningful, league-changing trades in recent history. I went through the archives and identified the two GMs involved in the trade, but I also gave each trade a rating. Each trade was marked as one of the following: Blockbuster, Mid-Level, or Low-Level.

I considered a "Blockbuster" to be any trade that involved a superstar player in or near the prime of his career or a trade that involved multiple top-tier players or draft picks. The "low-level" would be swapping of bench players, points for a role player, or points for a late draft pick. Anything that fell in between would be considered "mid-level". Obviously, the rating is subjective and many of the trades could have potentially fell in a different category. In the trade impact score, a "blockbuster" received 5 points, a "mid-level" received 3 points, and a "low-level" received 1 point.

Also, keep in mind that these were categorized by GM, not by franchise. I am studying the people behind the moves, not the teams. So, for example, trades made by GM Ballsohard for the Lakers and the 76ers are lumped together in the study.

Here is the chart showing the total amount of trades made by each GM for Seasons 13-15:

As probably is no surprise to experienced members of this league, NickMalone77 is the leader with a total of 23 trades in the past 3 seasons. He is averaging more than 7.5 trades per season. Iamquailman had the second highest total with 19. Other things of note are the low totals for both Soundwave and Conroy. 3 and 2 respectively, for two active GMs is a surprise.

Below is the chart showing the impact point totals:

NickMalone77 still tops this chart with sheer quantity. DarthVegito has the highest total of "blockbuster" deals. When he makes a trade, it tends to make waves. Inner_GI had a high total of big impact trades in proportion to his overall total, but that can be contributed to his dump off of talent this season. Xist2inspire, WigNosy, and TrayWithAnA seem to be the kings of the low-impact trade. Also take note that logpmess, 42Phd, RPF, and fearthebrow have not made any high-impact trades over the last 3 years despite being actively involved in the trade market.

So, if you are looking for a trade partner, NickMalone77 and Iamquailman seem to always be open for business. And if you are looking for a league-shaking trade, DarthVegito may be your man.

I'm surprised that I'm 4th. I always feel like my reputation is that I won't trade with people. Guess not.

Great work, burns.

Not surprised with #1 or #2. Dealin' Doug earned that name, as well as February 15h.

You bet your ass I haven't. Learning, doing no harm... despite great (misplaced) criticism. Goals, man, goals.
There's no "I" in team, but you can find "Eat me" if you push it too far.

Great work 'Burns. Always looking out for the best deal for both franchises if there's one to be made.
