S89 Town Hall 13

Post by Mike Lowry »

Which 1st round matchup is most exciting?
What can we expect to see in this series?
Why does the underdog have a legitimate chance of winning?
Who are you picking to win, and how will they do it?

Rules: 1 point if you give thoughtful answers, which I will award after the timer ends for responses. The timer ends for responses at the moment the corresponding week's Sim is run.

Note: Use approximately 5 sentences as your bare minimum for 1 point. If you write 3 long, complex sentences, you'll still get a point. If you write 5, 3 word sentences, you will not get a point. Don't @ me.

Due: Deadline for Round 1

Most exciting 1st round matchup is once again SuperSonics vs Kings. Rematch from last playoffs. My SuperSonics have played really well this season, despite giving up some easy wins to finish higher in the standings, while seemed to have a lost season with McHale getting injured twice for extended periods. But the Kings fought back and made it to the playoffs again and now have McHale healthy. Kings definitely have a chance at winning because Chad has experience. I’ve said it before, he’s a great GM and really knows how to gameplan. I still am picking my team to win, not just because it’s my team, but also because of me having home court advantage on top of my SuperSonics playing well on the road. I feel like I can steal at least one road game while taking care of business at home but it’s not going to be easy. Last time I beat the Kings, they didn’t have Wilkins or McHale. Hopefully I have what it takes to to get another series win in my career

I think the Suns/Wolves matchup is going to be entertaining.
I especially like that we're going to see head to head matchups between some of the brightest stars on the respective teams.
Malone v Barkley in the trenches, Stockton v Hardaway on the perimeter, you're not going to see to many clashes that offer that kind of competition.
The biggest reasons the Suns could win are their understanding of roles, and the brightness of their stars.
It could certainly be argued that the best 2 players in the series are Karl Malone and John Stockton.
If they both go off, they'll have an excellent chance of taking the series.
Also, the players outside of them, the role players, understand that they are role players.
You don't have to worry about Andrew Lang having an urge to chuck up 18 shots and shoot 32%.
I do love the move the Wolves made to bring in Moncrief, but he or Tripucka can easily be the guy who thinks it's his night and steal shots from Robinson and Barkley.
In the end, I like the depth of the Wolves, and don't think a recommended DC will be creative enough to out plan them.
Give me Minnesota in 5

The obvious choice in my opinion is Suns vs Wolves. Matchup of the future of the league. Karl Malone vs David Robinson. Who will be able to provide enough for their team to get a victory. We can expect to see a lot of full stat sheets. Points on points from all over the court. And then rebounds galore to boot. The biggest stat is going to be Robinson's blocks. He had 6 the last time these two met. The matchup to watch for a Suns victory is at the point guard position. If Stockton can dominate Hardaway like the last meeting, it may be a short series. I'm expecting every game to be super high scoring and come down to the end of the game. I'll say Suns in 6.
