S89 Town Hall 1

Post by Mike Lowry »

What are your feelings about your team as we enter the season?
Are you excited about anything in particular?
What would be a good season for you this season?

Rules: 1 point if you give thoughtful answers, which I will award after the timer ends for responses. The timer ends for responses at the moment the corresponding week's Sim is run.

Note: Use approximately 5 sentences as your bare minimum for 1 point. If you write 3 long, complex sentences, you'll still get a point. If you write 5, 3 word sentences, you will not get a point. Don't @ me.

Due: Deadline for Sim 1

I am really excited for this team. I was hoping to get another big man during FA but trading for Ruland seems to be a fine substitute. Fouling has always been a problem for my teams and he helps bring that number down

I think a good season for us would be getting to the 2nd round of the playoffs again, and possibly further. We know we are still at least a season away from feeling like we are ready to push for the finals but who knows, maybe we surprise some people this season

I think the Mavs are treading water right now. The team is mostly win now, but there is not much depth behind the starting 5. The King contract is becoming an albatross, but the books look better than they did last season, so that is a plus.

Are you excited about anything in particular?
Sam Bowie reached his potential, so it will be interesting to track how he handles being the focal point of the offense.

What would be a good season for you this season?
Making the playoffs. Finding a way to offload King's contract for pennies on the dollar. If we start the season struggling then pulling the plug and tanking would be nice.

I’m very excited to be absolutely horrible. I wanna see how Kemp does, of course, and I’ll be keeping my eye on Tisdale who died in TC despite the insurance. I’m also getting decent TC’s out of Jim Les, who sucks, but who knows? If he keeps having these good TC’s maybe he won’t suck.

Success this season is relative to what a VERY green Kemp is able to accomplish this season. I don’t even have a team set up to support him, necessarily, because he’s a big strong PF playing recommended Center, which feels wrong to me.

But I have nothing going beyond patience. We’ll see what happens in the seasons to come, and fill up my cap space with cast offs as best we can.

I'm actually really excited for this season despite being nerfed in TC. Koncak was my starting center and I paid him for that spot for the next four years. He got absolutely demolished by training camp and really left a hole at center. Olden isn't there yet, but grabbing Randy Breuer will help be a stopgap. Despite that, we were one game away from making the second round last year even though our starting point guard didn't play at all that series due to injury. I am looking for a playoff berth and winning one round. I think that is lofty for a goal but I really like the makeup of this team. I do have a lot of guard players and could use a big, so I will be looking to the trade market to see what I can get to make this season even better.

As we entered the season, I was honestly a little tepid about my team. I like my guys but we had a first round exit, we didn't make any big trades or moves in free agency or the draft. We came back as essentially the same team on paper. Then training camp happened. My core guys all got a little better with Rob Williams leading the charge. He spent the offseason working on his shot and it shows.
I was happy with the results and saw we got a little better, then preseason happened.
That was when expectations started escalating. Top 3 offense is not something I was expecting. Two starters averaging a double double is not what I was expecting. I know it's preseason so I'll take it with a grain of salt. One thing we struggled with last year was offense so seeing it take such a leap is promising. We'll tighten up the defense as the season goes but things are looking up.
A successful season would be at least making it through the first round but truthfully, I want to be back in the ECF.

I do not know how to feel tbh. The team as constructed looks good on paper but will they gel. There's only one ball and I have a team full of good players that will have to learn to defer sometimes. If we can figure out how to make things work, meaning I will have to actually try harder when gameplannig, this team should be fine. It won't be easy tho,

Are you excited about anything in particular?

Kinda excited to see if the addition of magic will help others get easy shots and lower the turnover rate. Turnovers have been a issue for a while and has cost the team games.

What would be a good season for you this season?

A good season would be making it back to the finals but with my past and going all in hasn't been the best. Hoping things change this go around.

I'm excited to be a little ahead of schedule.
I did a full reset and have more talent than I expected at this point of the process.

Are you excited about anything in particular?
There are some players on my roster that I would love to trade for their value, but also could see turning me into a winner if they stick.

What would be a good season for you this season?
Adding valuable assets to my war chest is the main goal.
If I make the playoffs and make some noise, wouldn't be the worst, but I am expecting lottery, so getting a player I can develop in the next draft is also part of this year's strategy.

I think it’s fairly evident that I’m excited about this season. After all, here I am answering a town hall when I don’t think I’ve done one since we reset. Part of it may be having more time in the car on Memorial Day but I think it’s more likely that getting the #1 pick has me more engaged. Also trading my picks for the next three years means there are stakes and I have to be plugged in or else I’ll be in trouble. So yes, I’m more excited than I have been in a while.

With that, the expectations are much higher for my results this year. Success has to be a playoff berth just so my pick isn’t a good one, but I need to show that I can make a deep run as well. The west is very tough but I still have enough talent to win more than 40 games and hopefully win a playoff series.

I’ll be honest. TC decimated my team and my spirits for the upcoming season ahead. When you give up the kind of equity of capital to change the fortunes of your club to open up cap space and lanes for the future of your team and a good chunk of the team doesn’t care about TC or the preseason, the tone that is set is one of disappointment. I still think this team can be talented depending on how they start out but it’s going to take some time for the team to gel, again, and we’ll see how it goes.

I’m excited for the continued development of Hersey Hawkins & Vlade Divac as the future of this team. Patience will pay for long term with them and I think it’s about trying to give them as much time together as possible to gel. General success for this team this year would be winning more than 34 games from last year and building on it but that’ll depend on how well James Donaldson responds and how well Johnny Dawkins takes to wearing a Hornets uniform.

Cautiously optimistic. I'm a little disappointed in how we finished last season, but my hope is the slight offensive downgrade at starting C (from McHale to Thompson) is offset by additional bench strength (Natt).

This is likely to sound crazy, but I'm excited to see how Calvin Natt performs. I would have loved to have had him several years ago, and came close a few times, and of course he's in decline now, but I'm very curious to see what he looks like in my system.

A "good" season would be winning the championship - but with the Spurs as stacked as they are, I have to consider that may not be in the cards... so an "okay" season would be winning the division and pushing the Spurs... the Timberwolves and Suns are young up-and-comers and the Supersonics have the pieces to make things tricky... so if I can find a way to beat all three of these teams out in the division race, that will be okay. (Sorry, Warriors, but we know you are waiting to build around Kemp and aren't really ready to compete this season)
