THE 1989 NBA DRAFT LOTTERY: THE ALL-DAY SHOPPING CHANNEL SPECIAL

Welcome to the Draft-A-Thon 89! The balls have been spun, the envelopes are sealed, and we’re revealing the result one life-changing product at a time BUT WAIT, let's take a look at the prospects.

While the 1988 draft was about finding steady contributors, 1989 is about star power, international intrigue, and raw, explosive potential.

This isn't just a draft. It’s a talent goldmine. Whether you need a cornerstone in the paint, a sharpshooter from the perimeter, or a floor general to ignite the fast break, the names on the board today are ready to deliver.

The scouts are raving, and the GMs are sweating. Here is a look at the elite talent who will be waiting for their names to be called on draft night.

The Admiral's Arrival: After a two-year wait due to military service, David Robinson is finally ready to anchor a defense. He is the ultimate prize, a physical specimen with a disciplined mind.

The Marksmen: If you need scoring, look no further than Glen Rice, whose jumper is pure silk, or the legendary Drazen Petrovic, the "Mozart of Basketball" coming over from Europe to prove that the world is catching up to the States.

The New Breed of Bigs: From the versatility of Sean Elliott to the "Uncle Cliffy" himself, Cliff Robinson, the forward position is evolving. And don't blink when Shawn Kemp is on the floor. The high-flyer from Concord High skipped college and is ready to tear down rims across the league.

The Floor Generals: Need a leader? Tim Hardaway brings the "UTEP Two-Step" crossover that leaves defenders in the dust, while Mookie Blaylock offers a masterclass in perimeter defense and steals.

The Global Impact: Beyond Petrovic, the arrival of Vlade Divac signals a new era of passing big men, while Nick Anderson brings a powerful, scoring-guard mentality that can jump out of the gym.

The ping-pong balls are ready. For teams like the San Diego Clippers, the Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors and the Atlanta Hawks, the math is simple, a high pick means a ticket out of the cellar. A low pick means another year of "what if."

Who will claim the #1 overall pick? Who will land the Shawn Kemp or the Admiral?

📺PICK #12: The "Spurs-A-Way" Vacuum

Image

Pre-Lotto Rank: 12
Post-Lotto Rank: 12

"Is your team sucking for all the wrong reasons? Try the Spurs-A-Way! It’s reliable, it’s industrial, and just like the San Antonio Spurs luck tonight, it stays exactly where you put it. You started at 12, you stayed at 12. It doesn't move, it doesn't shift, it just cleans up the scraps left by the big dogs!"

📺PICK #11: "Portland’s Permanent Press" Iron

Image

Pre-Lotto Rank: 11
Post-Lotto Rank: 11

"Tired of wrinkles in your roster? The Portland Trail Blazers (via Lakers) tried to steam their way up the board, but they’ve been flattened! This iron is set to 'Permanent. No movement from that #11 spot. It’s heavy, it’s hot, and it’s exactly what you expected!"

📺PICK #10: "The Buzz-Off" Bug Spray

Image

Pre-Lotto Rank: 10
Post-Lotto Rank: 10

"Are the Charlotte Hornets bugging you for a higher pick? Spray them with Buzz-Off! Watch as they stay frozen in the 10th position. No jumping, no flying, just stationary insect action. Order now and we’ll include a commemorative 'Why didn't we move up?' fly swatter!"

📺PICK #9: "The Cleveland Rock-Solid" Paperweight

Image

Pre-Lotto Rank: 9
Post-Lotto Rank: 9

"Does your front office paperwork blow away in the wind? You need the Cleveland Rock-Solid! It’s heavy, it’s gray, and it’s staying at #9. The Cavs didn't budge, proving that sometimes, the best product is one that does absolutely nothing at all!"

📺PICK #8: "The Big Apple Core-Ex" Juicer

Image

Pre-Lotto Rank: 8
Post-Lotto Rank: 8

"You take the Knicks, you take the 76ers pick, you put 'em in the Core-Ex and what do you get? The same juice you started with! The New York Knicks are staying at #8. It’s 100% concentrated disappointment with no added sugar!"

📺 PICK #7: "The Pacer-Maker" Heart Monitor

Image

Pre-Lotto Rank: 7
Post-Lotto Rank: 7

"Are you excited? Don't be! The Pacer-Maker keeps your heart rate perfectly flat. The Indiana Pacers came in at 7 and look at that line.....it’s a flatline! They’re picking 7th. Stable, boring, and remarkably consistent."

📺 PICK #6: "The Hawk-Eye" Binoculars

Image

Pre-Lotto Rank: 5
Post-Lotto Rank: 6

"Look into the distance! What do you see? It’s a drop in value! The Atlanta Hawks entered at #5, but with these blurred lenses, they’ve slid down to #6! Objects in the mirror are further away than they appear!"

📺 PICK #5: "Double Vision" Sunglasses

Image

Pre-Lotto Rank: 4
Post-Lotto Rank: 5

"Atlanta again?! With Double Vision, you can watch your other pick (via New York) slide from #4 all the way down to #5! It’s twice the heartbreak for the price of one! Why have one Top 4 pick when you can have two Top 6 picks instead?"

PICK #4: "The Gold Nugget" Fool's Gold Kit

Image

Pre-Lotto Rank: 2
Post-Lotto Rank: 4

"It looks like a Top 2 pick, it feels like a Top 2 pick, but it’s Fool's Gold! The Denver Nuggets just took the biggest tumble of the night. From #2 to #4! It’s shiny, it’s pretty, but it’s worth significantly less than you thought!"

📺 PICK #3: "The Maverick Mustang" Rocket Boots

Image

Pre-Lotto Rank: 6
Post-Lotto Rank: 3

"Giddy up, Dallas! Are you tired of being stuck at #6? Strap on the Maverick Mustangs and blast off! We’ve bypassed the Hawks, we’ve bypassed the Nuggets! We’ve soared all the way to #3! Caution: Sudden elevation may cause dizziness."

📺 PICK #2: "The Golden State Glider"

Image

Pre-Lotto Rank: 3
Post-Lotto Rank: 2

"Do you want to move up without the effort? The Golden State Glider takes you from a lowly #3 and slides you right into the #2 spot. It’s smooth, it’s sleek, and it’s almost but not quite the best thing on the market!"

📺 PICK #1: "The Clipper-Ship" Luxury Yacht

Image

Pre-Lotto Rank: 1
Post-Lotto Rank: 1

"You’re the King of the World! You started at the top and you’re staying there! The Los Angeles Clippers have the #1 pick! It’s unsinkable! (Legal Disclaimer: The Clipper-Ship is actually very sinkable and has historically hit many icebergs, but for tonight, you’re #1!)"

OBJECTIVE: 1,062 words = 4 points - This will be split two ways.
SUBJECTIVE: Entertaining, clearly there was work put in on the "items for sale" graphics and theming was great - maximum award of 5 points each.

TOTAL: 7 points (2 objective plus maximum 5 subjective) each for RPF and Eazy
