S88 Town Hall 2

Post by Mike Lowry »

How does your team's current record compare to how you feel about where your build is?
Does your winning percentage reflect the team you've put together?
If not, why do you think you are under, or over performing?

Rules: 1 point if you give thoughtful answers, which I will award after the timer ends for responses. The timer ends for responses at the moment the corresponding week's Sim is run.

Note: Use approximately 5 sentences as your bare minimum for 1 point. If you write 3 long, complex sentences, you'll still get a point. If you write 5, 3 word sentences, you will not get a point. Don't @ me.

Due: Deadline for Sim 2.

8-0 feels good and honestly what we expected. Getting Wilkins without giving up any significant pieces to our core 5 was a massive move for us. Sure he's coming off the bench, but that's exactly the vision we had when getting him. He's getting starter minutes, butjust absolutely shredding teams' benches. I was really pondering making some changes or acquisitions, but this squad might need to roll with the punches for the time being. Sim 2 could change that though if it turns out Sim 1 was a mirage.

I think I'm a little surprised, and a little understanding.
I'm very okay at 6-1 after 7, and expect to keep winning at that clip or better.
However, I'm not thrilled that my loss came at the hands of the Cavs, who seem like a 2nd tier team, with all respect due to AB and the JLMarines persona.
I did hear about the untimely demise of Magic Johnson in the chat and had to LOL.
He won player of the week to open the season, and helped get us to a great start.
I was expecting his numbers to level off as a result of playing different roles with better players this season, but I know he will continue to be dominant in the ways that make us win.
I also have to take some responsibility for putting my guys in some bad situations as far as game planning.
You can bet that there won't be 5 Bullets in the top 25 for turnovers at the end of the year, but the 5 that are in the top 25 for FG% might stick.
I think a little calibration will push me towards a long winning streak, soon.

It's a little worse than I had hoped. I was hoping with the acquisition of Eddie that we could make a real push in the standings. I do think that gameplanning has a lot to do with it.

Does your winning percentage reflect the team you've put together?
Hopefully not. I'm hoping to be a playoff team by the end of the season. It is only the first sim, so we have time to make adjustments.

If not, why do you think you are under, or over performing?
Scoring other than Eddie is the problem right now. I will adjust positions and gameplan to hopefully have a winning record this Sim. One sim at a time as long as we make the playoffs is our outlook this season

The Mavericks are a complete mess right now. The books look awful and no interesting prospects in the pipeline. It is going to be a long season.

Does your winning percentage reflect the team you've put together?
We are mid and the winning percentage is mid so I think we got that right.

If not, why do you think you are under, or over performing?
Father Time caught up with this team, and I missed the chance to hit the eject button. Just got to be ready to tank the next few seasons away.

I feel like it's fairly accurate. I built this team to be a defensive juggernaut with scoring being secondary and supplemental. The first sim shows that build working well with the #1 defense and holding my opponent under 100 points in every win. In this aspect I think we are performing at expectations.

I think we're under performing when it comes to offense. I didn't think we'd be top 5 but being bottom half of points for does sting. Maybe my defense is doing well enough that my offense doesn't need to drop 150 every night? The next few sims will answer that question.

The 2 losses were also by double digits. While still not huge scoring games, this concerns me that if my defense doesn't show up, my offense may not be able to recover. We'll make a few offensive adjustments to see if we can improve in that aspect. Our point differential still looks good and it's still early in the season. We still have time to see if any of these games are flukes or the real deal.

My team’s current record is about where I thought it would be after the first sim. We are young so we knew we’d be making some mistakes and it showed. We fouled a lot and turned the ball over way too much. But that’s ok because we didn’t expect to be contenders this season. We just wanted to show that we were better than last year and on the right track.

And the trade of the season (so far) happened. We got Clyde on our team and immediately feel like we got a nice boost. Hopefully with his addition, we can take another step towards being a contender.

My team has not been who I thought we would be. Great? Probably not. Better than average? Definitely. Above .500? Almost certainly.

Having been the spurs only defeat is a feather in the cap, to be sure, but clearly road wins could be tough for us to get this year, and we should beat teams like the bulls and mavericks on the road (no disrespect to them), and we certainly should not get blown out by them.

My only hope is that with the DC I wanted to put in? We’ll be better. Whether or not we will be better, we should find out later today. Or else, the tear down of this roster may begin.
Somehow I manage.

It’s absolutely terrible. I expected a much better record after Sim 1. I know this roster is far better than what the standings show right now, and that’s on me to figure out. I have the team; I just need to dial in the gameplan.

Nothing about the numbers after Sim 1 reflects the team I’ve built or what this group is capable of. That will change quickly. I’ve already decided on a few moves, and you’ll see more adjustments in the coming Sims. One thing no one has ever accused me of is being patient—I’m aggressive, and I will make the changes that are needed.

I’m underperforming for a few reasons, and the biggest one is my gameplan. I’ve been trying to do something that literally cannot be done the way I envisioned it. I’ll expand on that later in the season once I’ve made the necessary adjustments. It was foolish not to recognize this sooner, but I’m not going to double down on a bad approach. I will adapt, I will correct the course, and I fully expect this team to start playing to its true level.

The goal has not changed. The aim is still to be a contender this season, and I’m going to manage aggressively to make sure the results start matching the talent on this roster.

I'm a little upset with the first sim. I lost to the Suns which sucks but I still believe in this team. I thought I would have only lost to maybe the Bucks once, so three losses kinda sucks.
Does your winning percentage reflect the team you've put together?
Yeah, because it is what is the record.
If not, why do you think you are under, or over performing?
I think we're actually underperforming, but I do think that I am pretty bad at game planning so not surprising.

At 4-4, for a new team in general, it’s a good place to be at. Would I have liked more wins? Of course, but the injuries to Jay Vincent & Rory Sparrow, guys that are critical to this teams success, will really test this team over the next month. I think vets like Larry Nance & James Donaldson are up to the task to really shoulder the burden in their absence. I think they have the presence of mind to face these challenges head on and step up to be the leaders of this team over time.

At the same time, a .500 mark for a brand new team again feels like an accomplishment. Darwin has been able to run the show as the leaders point guard and making sure Donaldson & Nance can be as effective as possible. We are trying not to let Hersey Hawkins take on too much responsibility early but for the talent he has, it’s really encouraging to see is all around game develop at this level. Over time, I think we can expect to see Hersey acknowledge and read certain defenses, get to his spots, and find his shot.

We’ll see who’s able to step up and come together with the depth we have to make sure the loss of Vincent & Sparrow isn’t too significant.

How does your team's current record compare to how you feel about where your build is? Perfect, in a rebuild year and working on the tank.
Does your winning percentage reflect the team you've put together? Yes, team bad.
If not, why do you think you are under, or over performing? Over performing actually, would like to have 0 wins

The Cavs are struggling to recruit big stars. We have elite young talent but missing a veteran player that get lead the Cavs to the promise land. It is going to be tough.

Does your winning percentage reflect the team you've put together?
I don't think so. We had three players injured. I think we are a better team, we just need to stay healthy.

If not, why do you think you are under, or over performing?
We don't have depth. It's a long season. It's going to be difficult to keep up with other teams that have multiple purple players.
