S86 Town Hall 9

Post by Mike Lowry »

We're winding down on the regular season, but there's still time to make a push.
Who will have the best and worst records in the league this season?

Rules: 1 point if you give thoughtful answers, which I will award after the timer ends for responses. The timer ends for responses at the moment the corresponding week's Sim is run.

Note: Use approximately 5 sentences as your bare minimum for 1 point. If you write 3 long, complex sentences, you'll still get a point. If you write 5, 3 word sentences, you will not get a point. Don't @ me.

Due: Deadline for Sim 10

The best record in the league is probably going to belong to the Lakers. Their remaining opponents' aggregate record is 0.476 (compare to the Bucks' 0.495 and the Spurs' 0.544). They have 4 games left against the Kings, 1 against the Suns, 1 against the Sonics, and 2 against the Bulls... all teams that are actively trying to be bad this season. The Bucks might sneak in and grab the top record but they'll have to beat the Pistons 4 times to do that, and that's a tall order.

The Bullets will finish with the worst record. They sold off absolutely everything, while the Suns have Daugherty plus StocktontoMalone which will give them at least a couple of guys that are trying. Washington feels like they're hoping to finish the season on a 30+ game losing streak.

The Lakers will finish with the best record. They still have a handful of games against the league's worst teams that will pad their total and let them coast to the best record.

The Suns will maintain their worst record despite the Bullets' best effort to tank. The team is allergic to defense and lately cannot even buy a bucket despite have scoring talent. This team is a mess right now and will get rewarded in the lottery soon enough.

I'm going to go with the Bucks for the best record. They obviously found some gel with their DC after sliding Short into place.
I also think the Lakers moved in the wrong direction with their deadline trade. It's not just a matter of cohesion, but they have a shallow lineup with no real depth, and now much less flexibility with Lister as opposed to Ruland. They now have three very slow players in their six man rotation, and that will create matchup problems moving forward. They very well may have ruined their shot at the ship.
I also want to shout out the Spurs as a dark horse for the best overall record if the Bucks stumble a little, and the one seed in the West.

For all my effort and energy, I don't think I can beat the Suns for the bottom. That is some impressive losing. I can't fathom how that roster just can't get it right enough to fall into an occasional win. Makes me feel bad for the players dwindling talent as they perish in the desert.

I see the Bucks holding on to the best record. They're on a heater and even though the have those pesky Pistons to play a few times, they seem to always be able to take care of business. Sure most of their games are on the road but this team knows how to win whether it's at home or away.

Of all the teams tanking this year, the Suns are a different breed. They have some talent to where they should have more than 8 wins but they just made sure their gameplan is just the worst of the worst as they look forward to having the best chance at the #1 pick. But don't look for them to be down too long, with the right pick as well as the right FA signing, this team will be competing again soon

I came to the same conclusion. The star players are there but the supporting cast is shit and Daugherty needs a season or two to become a powerhouse. I was honestly expecting between 25-30 wins but when the losses piled up there was no other option than to just go with it and hope for the 25-30 wins next season.
