S85 Town Hall 7

Post by Mike Lowry »

Who is a player that you expect to be a surprise All Star this season?
What are they doing that will help them make the All Star game?
Why don't more GM's know about them?
Or why do you think they're underrated?

Rules: 1 point if you give thoughtful answers, which I will award after the timer ends for responses. The timer ends for responses at the moment the corresponding week's Sim is run.

Note: Use approximately 5 sentences as your bare minimum for 1 point. If you write 3 long, complex sentences, you'll still get a point. If you write 5, 3 word sentences, you will not get a point. Don't @ me.

Due: Deadline for sim 7

Tom Chambers

After taking a season off as the top dog on the Bullets, Chambers is back to alpha status in Golden State. He is in the conversation with James Worthy for Most Improved and should lock up his first All-Star bid after a stellar season so far. Chambers continues to thrive in the PF spot and although the West is loaded with frontcourt talent, I think Chambers is going to get rewarded because of his scoring.

I wrote about him in my article, but Danny Schayes is a guy who has been putting in work. He went from being a low end first round pick who was yellow green, to now a blue blue player. And I know, colors don’t really mean shit - but he has had consistently good trainings and really flourished in Seattle. Big D really found a diamond in the rough with this guy. He also has him locked in for the next five seasons.

Schayes biggest help is that the Sonics really don’t have much else at this point. After trading all their best players away, they are firmly on getting Schayes all the attention.

Johnny Moore seems poised to be on the cusp of a point guard spot in the East. He is right there in points, assists, and steals with the likes of Fat Lever and Doc Rivers. He is a little better at most of those than a stand out in the East for years in Mo Cheeks. With Cheeks fall off, it really is a three horse race for the point guard spot in the East that Moore could understandbly take.

The East has been run by Mo Cheeks the last few seasons. Fat Lever got a rule made up for him. Doc Rivers is on the vaunted Bucks team that always has good players. Johnny Moore has been good, but he has really placed himself out of the next tier and into the top this season. So the relative newcomer may be a surprise to some people once announced.

I'm going to go with Cliff Robinson, who been solid since I was trying to trade for him when he was in New Jersey. Cliff should not be the best player on the worst team in the league, but he is showing out next to Barkley, and putting up monster numbers. He could have been a great trade piece this season if the Hawks were selling, but I guess they like his veteran leadership. At 28.5 points per game he is only behind McHale as power forwards in the East. He's also pulling down 9 boards, averaging almost 2 assists and 1 steal per game, and posting an outstanding 22.3 PER. I know he has name recognition, but he has always been labeled as a second fiddle, even though he outproduces his counterparts. Playing on aa baad team will limit the number of eyes willing to watch your games though. People would rather Magic City with their money.

Pacers Jeff Malone (FORMER BUCK ALERT) will surprise some people... but NTO THIS GUY RIGHT HERE. Jeff Malone has an offensive pedigree that players from this era DREAM of. He's got the ability to score at will and get to the basket. And he's doing it all kinda under the radar while on a team going through a sudden rebuild after this off-season's shake up. As a Buck the last couple seasons, he was stuck in a glut of guards, whether it was Sleepy Floyd, Lewis Lloyd, Danny Young, Alvin Robertson... he always was stuck bhind someone else do to his less-than-top-tier (but not bad). But when called upon, he stepped up in BIG WAYS during both regular season and playoffs. He's putting the league on notice.
