New Jersey Nets 1986 Preseason Press Conference

Post by RPF »

Welcome everyone, even the Bucks, to this preseason press conference. We have assembled a talented team but with a little twist on play. We see the future coming and we have a focus that we believe will take the league by storm.

The philosophy starts in the paint with the ferocious low-post presence of Darryl "Chocolate Thunder" Dawkins. At 28, the veteran power forward is primed for a monster year, having already showcased a dominant 26 points and 7.7 rebounds per game in preseason action. Dawkins, an absolute force who commands double teams, is the team's relentless engine, determined to back down any opponent.

Flanking Dawkins is a trio of young, versatile forwards who are redefining the Nets' perimeter attack. Clark Kellogg, only 24, has blossomed into an all-around talent, posting nearly 25 points and 7.8 rebounds a contest. His ability to score from all spots makes him the perfect complement to Dawkins. Meanwhile, Eddie Johnson provides a blend of forward size and guard skills, combining 23.5 points with 4 assists per game.

The real key to the team's offensive explosion, however, is the elite shooting on the wing. At 6'7", Dale Ellis is proving to be one of the league's most efficient marksmen, draining shots at a blistering 58.3% from beyond the arc in the exhibition schedule. This kind of outside punch, combined with the power inside, gives the Nets the kind of balanced offensive attack few teams can match.

Directing this fast-paced attack is the explosive point guard Fat Lever. The 25-year-old is the team's primary catalyst, leading the charge in transition with nearly seven assists and a phenomenal 1.7 steals per game. His high motor and rebounding ability (8.6% offensive rebounding rate) allow him to create fast-break opportunities out of thin air. He is ably supported by veteran Phil Ford, who brings an experienced, steady hand and excellent defensive instincts off the bench.

Then add in defensive anchor Herb Williams providing valuable rim protection, we are confident that we have assembled a team ready to compete for the division title and finally deliver the kind of high-stakes playoff basketball the Continental Airlines Arena craves. The message from the organization is clear: the Nets are ready to win now.

I open the floor to any questions you might have.

Will Kellogg be your super 6 and is Eddie Johnson the piece missing needed for your team to get your 2nd championship?

Thanks Mr Eazy,
We do indeed envision Clark to be our super 6 man. Our eyes are always on the championship but the first step is to focus on the Atlantic division.

Chet Youbetcha, Dimmadome News: Seeing you so high on Clark Kellogg has us at the Dimmadome wondering, what is it that you think you can unlock in him that the Hawks and Kings could not?

Thanks Mr. Youbettcha,

Clark has an amazing basketball IQ, we think he needs to be challenged and engaged in the minutiae.
