Teams In-Game Summary Ratings

Post by AngryBanana »

Hey all, I’m back with another pointless article on my opinions on how other people are running their team. This one will focus on the fun little in game “stats” that are tracked that are not always seen by those with no node access. The figured now is a good time for this article, since we’re nearing the trade deadline. The stats in question are: Power Rankings, Depth, Cohesion, Talent, and Approval. To be clear, I am not sure how these are all broken down as to how it decides the ranking you get. I would have to imagine it converts your team into a value and then ranks it against the other teams in the league. However, how it computes that makes no sense to me. The rankings for the stats are “Great” which is blue, “Good” which is green, “Average” which is yellow, and “Bad” which is red.

I think fundamentally, the most important of these are the “talent” ranking. I have always, when previously reviewing these rankings, I held talent to the highest standard. Where that is, in my considerations, the biggest telling of if your team has a good chance at winning it all.

Then it’s Cohesion. Cohesion is one that, if your team is not as “talented” but has a good cohesion ranking, you could actually beat a team in the playoffs. Where if I know I won’t get a Great talent, I’m sure as hell going to try for the great cohesion. That is achieved by the turnover on your roster. Where the longer you go without changing the roster, the better cohesion you have.

Third would be depth. It’s a good telling of if your team can sustain an injury, but ultimately doesn’t have much weight if your team stays healthy.

Finally it is approval. There is zero weight to this. You won’t get fired for having an abysmal team year after year. If that was the case, then BigDaddyD would have been kicked out as the Pels GM in PBSL. It’s just how the owner, or fans?, view how well of a job you’re doing. You win more, your approval goes up. This is the hardest to change. Where it often takes several seasons to have it alter rankings, because it obviously takes time to change people’s mind on how you’re doing at your job.

Also, all of these rankings are before any trades made between all star game and the trade deadline.

I am going to post each teams ranks and the power rankings and give some thoughts.

POWER RANKINGS:

Top of the table: it’s very curious that it has the bucks first. Yes they are a good, maybe even great, team. Are they number one though? It’s just the competition in the East is such a joke compared to the West. Where I would maybe think the three teams under him have an equal argument for being ranked above. Also, Nets at nine I think could be a playoff sleeper pick. They have a good team, have won a championship, and the GM has been around for a min. Finally, at the bottom of the table. The Celtics, and Hawks are clearly the worst teams this year. Spurs for some reason have the worst record, even though they have some quality talent. Maybe being in the draft lotto is #12YearsASpur? I think Celtics should be above the Spurs, for the same reason that the Bucks maybe should be below the West teams at the top. I’m going to win one or two more game than Spurs because the East is that bad.

Now we’re going to post each GMs page and I’ll give a little thought per GM as I see fit.

Rockets - #78
Depth- ok
Cohesion - great
Talent - bad
Approval - Poor

Man. The rockets. I know they are active, but I really hate to see a team that got Larry Bird wind up in this situation. If cohesion is your only good trait, then you aren’t doing enough to get your team in the right situation, and the Rockets risk losing Bird this offseason as a result.

Celtics - AB
Depth - ok
Cohesion - good
Talent - bad
Approval - average

I’m going to pull a wig here and not talk about my team.

SuperSonics - BigDaddyD
Depth - Ok
Cohesion - good
Talent - good
approval - bad

lol. A bar approval ranking with a really good team. This is because of the division they are in. They are doing well and building a good team in Seattle, but this is a good showing of why approval is completely irrelevant.

kings - Darth
Depth - fix
Cohesion - good
Talent - great
Approval - great

Depth is messed up because of an injury here. Equally, they are in a great spot for the year. A great talent, that should equate to a great cohesion if they don’t mess with too much come playoffs. They have a chance to run it back (thanks to me Image)

76ers - Digiskunk
Depth - ok
Cohesion - ok
Talent - avg
Approval - bad

Gary isn’t really active and the above shows that.

Suns - Dr. K
Depth - fix
Cohesion - avg
Talent - poor
Approval - good

They traded away Magic. This team will stay keep this trend the rest of the year. I wouldn’t be surprised to see approval drop too.

Spurs - Eazy
Depth - ok
Cohesion - avg
Talent - poor
Approval - bad

Man. The spurs. I feel bad for them because they are trying to build something. By all accounts, have done well too. But the game hates SA right now. Can’t sign any FAs and gets poor rankings. If he gets Jordan or Akeem, this team will be 12 Years A Dynasty

Warriors - Greeple
Depth - ok
Cohesion - good
Talent - good
Approval - great

lol. A good talent with a top 2 player, and active GM, and good complimentary players on the top end. This game also is not the biggest fan of the Golden state I guess.

Bucks - Quail
Depth - ok
Cohesion - good
Talent - great
Approval -good

The great talent is what’s making this top end. The great cohesion by finals will make this a hard team to beat.

Nuggets - Jedi
Depth - ok
Cohesion - good
Talent- bad
Approval - good

A former championship team that may be overproducing, at least based on the above information. They are a young team that really needs a big if they want to get better this season and in the future.

Cavaliers - JLM
Depth - ok
Cohesion - avg
Talent - good
Approval - avg

Cavs going to Cav. Not giving them any advice because it will be seen as collusion with k100 about something.

Clippers - JNR
Depth - ok
Cohesion - good
Talent - great
Approval - poor

So this team should have kept the levels above after their trade with the Celtics. It was a minimal trade. Hopefully their cohesion turns to great before playoffs and the ASG mvp goes off in the playoffs.

Mavs - K100
Depth - ok
Cohesion - good
Talent - avg
Approval - poor

K100 is in the middle of a rebuild. He should be ok in the long run where talent should go up as team develops.

Lakers - LTS
Depth - ok
Cohesion - good
Talent - great
Approval - avg

Talent makes sense at great. However, in their division and conference that will still make them potentially a 4-6 seed with no home court advantage for Magic.

Bulls - LogPMess
Depth - ok
Cohesion - great
Talent - good
Approval - poor

Bulls should be happy with their position. They have done a lot to get where they are and should be in a good setup.

bullets - MikeLowry
Depth - ok
Cohesion - poor
Talent - poor
Approval - Avg

I wonder if all the trades Mike has made this season has caused the cohesion to stay poor and affect the team’s performance to date?

Knicks - NYMagicGarrett
Depth - ok
Cohesion - great
Talent - good
Approval - good

Glad that the newer GM has found a way to make the boss happy while also carrying a solid team from the above’s perspective. Surprised they don’t have a winning record looking solely at this.

Pacers - PaulyP
Depth - ok
Cohesion - good
Talent - poor
Approval - great

Indy loves Pauly. It seems they always have. He makes the most of his teams every year. However at 19-33 they may drop down to a good approval this next year.

Nets - RPF
Depth - ok
Cohesion - great
Talent - avg
Approval - avg

This shows that even though you may have some solid players on your team, the computer may not think your team is a great talent level. This may in part be based on the lack of decent players outside of the starters. The cohesion at great is probably helping some as well with the win amount.

Alright, I’ve lost interest in this, so it will be even shorter from here on out.

Pistons - Tbone
Depth - ok
Cohesion - good
Talent - poor
Approval - poor

Newer GM that is playing decent with a young roster.

Hawks - Syndicate
Depth - ok
Cohesion - bad
Talent - poor
Approval - bad

A team firmly in rebuild mode

Blazers - Wig
Depth - ok
Cohesion - avg
Talent - good
Approval - good

Surprised this team doesn’t have higher stats. Wig going to wig and produce great teams that others may not see though.

Jazz - Xist
Depth - ok
Cohesion - great
Talent - avg
Approval - Avg

At 30 wins, X is doing a solid job getting the most out of this team. Kiki is a beast.

Ya know? +1 extra point for giving every team a peak 'under the hood' so to speak of how the simputer is evaluating their team. I think that's a pretty valuable thing to share.
