Pick a team with a winning percentage between .200 and .600, explain where this team is headed.
Will they get better or worse?
Will they buy or sell?
Does their current record accurately reflect their direction?
Why or why not?

Rules: 1 point if you give thoughtful answers, which I will award after the timer ends for responses. The timer ends for responses at the moment the corresponding week's Sim is run.

Note: Use approximately 5 sentences as your bare minimum for 1 point. If you write 3 long, complex sentences, you'll still get a point. If you write 5, 3 word sentences, you will not get a point. Don't @ me.

Due: Due by the deadline for sim 2

I'll take the 3-5 Pacers. They're going to get better; we saw this team win 53 then 58 games the past two seasons and they didn't suffer any major personnel losses in the off-season while most of the rest of the East got worse. Their two stars (Joe Barry Carroll and Adrian Dantley) improved again this offseason. At some point, that talent is going to kick in and lift them to compete in the Central. Because of this, their record is not indicative of the team's final situation; I'd be shocked if they finish under 50 wins and I'm pretty sure they'll make the playoffs (assuming no injuries).

I doubt they'll sell, Pauly's patient, but this isn't the best season to be buying either... impact players are either on rookie deals and overvalued or on deals that expire this season or next and once Dantley and JBC need to be re-signed, will clog up a team's cap situation. I expect Pauly to stay the course and trust his stars to carry him... unless an obvious move presents itself.

I’m going to go ahead and choose my division rival, the Bullets, and be realistic here. Mike has built a great team and Buck really could be the piece that allows them to make a run in the East. No question they will get better and their current record is not indicative of the talent on their team. Too much talent to not go on a run and be a top team. I just hope to make it difficult on them.

No need to buy or sell unless something bad happens. I think they will ride what they have to the end and see where it takes ‘em.

….but also could you imagine if the Knicks still found a way to win the division….let the games begin.

I'm going to take the Cleveland Cavaliers who sit atop the Central Division.
I love the Moncrief/Paxson duo, and Rick Mahorn is solid support.
After that they don't look like much, but they are getting good production from their depth.
I also see some quality wins against the Pacers and Spurs, who I think are THE measuring stick for good and bad teams this season. This makes me think they're headed towards success. However, that Paxson injury is going to cost them in the near future. They rely on his scoring far to much to be able to make up for it. I expect them to have a rough next sim, maybe two, and then get back to winning consistently. I don't imagine they will sell unless someone overpays for Mahorn. That's unlikely, so I think they stand pat.

Clippers at .375 will get better, but will they buy or sell? It's a tough one. Probably neither. I reckon the sim 1 results put JNR back to sleep until S4 comes around, but I hope not. I think this first sim tells a small story of a better season to come - a sim 1 mirage, shall you say. A few more sims may need to shake out to prove me right or wrong, but my instincts say they may need to buy to get better...but I doubt they'll seek a deal unless one comes to them.

Nonetheless, this record does not accurately reflect their direction, or a win percentage that holds. If JNR does nothing, I predict they will hover just above .500, even in a division full of killers. Having recorded 6 of 8 games against division rivals already, I think there are some other teams around the league they'll beat, once they play them, but they should steal some more wins against the likes of us, too.
Somehow I manage.

I'm gonna go with the Celtics at .375

Will they get better or worse?
I don't think this team gets better this season. They need to make some drastic changes and I don't think they, nor anyone else, are in any position to help them out. They have been active to try and make some deals but they just don't seem to have the ability to make any meaningful moves this season. Especially since the bad teams are already looking forward to the 83 and 84 drafts.

Will they buy or sell?
They are trying to buy but it may best to just call this season a loss. If they want to rebuild quicker, they may have to look at getting rid of Eaton. 25 yr old rookie on a bad team doesn't offer much for them. They would do better offloading Eaton and Cheeks instead of trying to get players to compete this season. Relax this season, get some media points, do the pick'ems and town halls, trade cheeks and eaton for points/picks and come back in 83 with a better foundation.

Does their current record accurately reflect their direction? Why or why not
I think it does. Young/inexperienced talent that hasn't played together much. It was pretty easy to see this team would struggle this season. They are far from being able to compete, even in such a weak conference. Not to mention the complete lack of offense. Scoring less than 100ppg is gonna be tough to win many games and I'm not sure they have enough pieces to move to be able to get them in a pot to compete this season

I pick the 76ers.

Will they get better or worse?
- Yeah, i think the Sixers are far too talented to stay sub-.500. Once their talent starts to get it together (and Gary actually submits a DC) this team will take off in a few sims.

Will they buy or sell?
- Again, Gary is a wildcard here. He comes in on a whim with an idea to make a trade, and by hell or high water, he makes a trade for better or worse. It's just a matter of whether or not Gary will do it. I think he will though. It makes no sense to sell when you freakin sold #5 overall for a win-now player.

Does their current record accurately reflect their direction? Why/Why not?
- Their record reflects a couple losses to the Knicks, splitting with the Bulls, sweeping the defending champ Nuggets, and losing to the Nets & Warriors. A couple should-have-won games mixed with a few surprises. Again, if adjustments are made, then I think "No, it is not accurate".

Lets go with the Mavericks.

I think they will get better, just like the nuggets the just had a bad sim 1.
They have all their picks, they might want to try and buy a solid big and they will really be in business.
They do seem to be on a downward rate, made playoffs, then misses and now a bad sim1.

Phoenix Suns .333
Will they get better or worse?

The Suns are currently last in the pacific but I don't see them being there long. As long as Magic is on their team they should be a playoff team. I see them getting better as the season goes on. I just think they are just off to a slow sim 1 start.

Will they buy or sell?

I think they will be buyers. Their only hole is a power forward if they can address that and put Magic at PG where he belong they will be a great team.

Does their current record accurately reflect their direction?

No

Why or why not?

It's only sim 1 and like I stated above add a power forward or even just put Magic at PG, his natural position might be the difference.

I'll go with the Nets, currently at a .333 winning percentage. I think they'll get worse. Something about them just hasn't been clicking since the title. The conference is open enough to where they can easily pull it together and do something, but that's where the next question comes in, as I also think they'll sell (which will make them worse). Dawkins and Drew are entering their primes, but will command hefty salaries next offseason. And with Robinson's UFA coming the season after that, this team could get real expensive real quick. I can see RPF being content with finally winning a ring, shipping off Dawkins and Drew to get good value from them and avoid having to pay them both, and refocusing around Robinson/Lever/Whoever gets drafted next season, with Williams being the "in-his-prime" guy leading the charge.

The Nets' current record echoes last season's results, so I'd say it's accurate. This is a team that - for some reason - caught lightning in a bottle once, and haven't been able to replicate that since. I do believe that the plug will be pulled on this squad this season, as opposed to giving them a full season to try and reach the playoffs/recapture the magic.

Let's go with the Rockets. They are headed to a playoff spot in the tough West...IF 78 is truly active this season. Where is the 78 I used to know who competed and made moves with the best of us. I need you back 78 :(

Will they get better or worse?
They will get better IF 78 makes some moves. They have the #1 defense in the league after Sim 1. And that imo is real and legit. But clearly the problem is the offense. They need to make that one move to inject some offense into that roster and they are primed to be a problem.

Will they buy or sell?
Hopefully they will BUY BUY BUY. They don't have much left from Gilmore. The time is now. They are half way there they just NEED another real scoring option and watch that record flip around quick.

Does their current record accurately reflect their direction?
I would say no. Does defense win championships? Well it's not right now in Houston. He needs to give that defense some help. The offense is lethargic. Inject a spark and go get a top scorer. There are some out there on teams wanting to tank. Take advantage and go get one.
