S81 Town Hall 3

Post by Mike Lowry »

Looks like the league is pretty competitive right now.
Who do you think will separate themselves from the pack and put up impressive records?
Who do you think is a dark horse who won't put up the greatest record in the regular season, but has the potential to win it all?
Which player would carry them?

Rules: 1 point if you give thoughtful answers, which I will award after the timer ends for responses. The timer ends for responses at the moment the corresponding week's Sim is run.

Note: Use approximately 5 sentences as your bare minimum for 1 point. If you write 3 long, complex sentences, you'll still get a point. If you write 5, 3 word sentences, you will not get a point. Don't @ me.

Due: Due by the deadline for sim 3

The Bucks. It took too long for them to make the Parish trade, get him healthy, and find their groove last season, but they're right from the jump this season and I think they have the best chance to put up a strong record. I wish it were Portland but just like last season, it feels like we're getting off to a *really* slow start. I still believe in the roster construction, but the results haven't been there yet.

So... the equivalent of last season's Nets? I think the Bullets could surprise some people.
Which player would carry them?
Calvin Natt. I think everyone looks at "6-6" and underrates him, but he reminds me a lot of Chocolate Thunder... he has power, he produces consistently, nobody really gameplans for him, and the Bullets have a deeper-than-you-think supporting cast.

I still see the Jazz as a team that is going to break out in their division. Last year, they were frontrunners with Kiki leading the way. With other support players available this year, they should be able to regain that momentum and I think they will lead their division by more than 5 games by the season's end. This is of course if they stay healthy.

Can the defending champs be considered a dark horse? We saw the ability of Darryl Dawkins last year, but rookie Herb Williams is locking down the post that giving them an additional strength that they didn't have last year. I see them being a middle of the pack playoff team that will make a huge run in the playoffs again.

Who do you think will separate themselves from the pack and put up impressive records? I do think I will run away with the Atlantic division, but the other divisions are going to be competitive. I think Bucks will do enough for the central and Kings should be impressive with for the Midwest and the pacific is going to be a blood bath.

Who do you think is a dark horse who won't put up the
greatest record in the regular season, but has the potential to win it all? Mavs or Pacers could make a dangerous run. Moore and Gavin in Dallas is a great duo and Joe B and the Pacers could go on a big score run and hurt some feelings.

Which player would carry them? Moore and Gavin can win games themselves. Joe Barry and Dantly could break some hearts as well.

How bout them Knicks huh?

I think the Lakers are on the verge of taking over the Western conference. They've made a lot of moves are still looking to make more. They've got a great starting lineup, just need to figure out some depth pieces in order to make a deep playoff run.

The Jazz seem like a fun team to spoil somebody's season in the playoffs. They got off to a great start so let's see if they can keep the momentum going. They probably are going to want to be very active around the trade deadline in order to solidfy their spot as one of the top teams.

Which player would carry them?
Kiki is definitely going to be the catalyst that brings them through the playoffs. Hard to compete with almost 35pts/game. But if Tom Chambers can take a step forward then the Jazz would have two very dominant players who can carry this team to the Finals

Knicks already took off, I think the Bucks will get it together, and I like the Herb Williams addition to the champs. They should put up some wins.

The Kings have some studs that are putting up numbers that I expect to translate to wins, but I think the Warriors and Lakers will get away from the pack.

The defending champs probably can't fit this description, though I love the things they're doing under the radar, so I'm going to stick with the Kings and Mike Gminski. It's going to take some real defense to slow down Mo Malone and dem.
