Town Hall Sim 9

Post by Mike Lowry »

Describe a prototype of the player you needed to trade for at the deadline.
Is there a player that fits this prototype that you looked at?
If so, what kept you from closing a deal?
If not, what attributes do they have that are the most likely for you to be able to acquire at the next opportunity?

Rules: 1 point if you give thoughtful answers, which I will award after the timer ends for responses. The timer ends for responses at the moment the corresponding week's Sim is run.

Note: Use approximately 5 sentences as your bare minimum for 1 point. If you write 3 long, complex sentences, you'll still get a point. If you write 5, 3 word sentences, you will not get a point. Don't @ me.

Due: Due by the deadline for sim 9

A young backup combo guard with scoring ability (and preferably able to handle the ball and pass) to replace the injured Jim Spanarkel.

Not really. Mike Bratz didn't have enough scoring and everyone else that put something on the trade block seemed to be looking to make a "big swing" rather than trying to move a reserve piece.

Mostly other injuries kept me from worrying about a backup combo guard as much as I would have liked at the deadline; when you're trying to paper over injuries to your starting C and then your starting PF, you're of necessity focused on big men instead of guards. Perhaps I'll have the opportunity to look around in the offseason, but as others have observed, talent seems a bit thin on the ground at the moment with a number of teams starting one or two yellow-current players, so even a yellow-colored backup is hard to get. I guess I should feel happy I was able to find Keith Herron on waivers (thanks, Spurs!) at the new year (in game) even if he hasn't played much.

I wanted a better big man, like most other GMs in the league. I talked with the Bullets about Benson and Adams, but I didn't like Benson enough to give up stuff for him, and the price for Adams was a bit too steep.

...Although part of me still wishes I said Frye it and overpaid for Adams, just because there are so few Adams-like players out there.

I had some other chats with LTS but nothing made sense for us. You know who was on his block. You were probably PM'd by him. So we talked about those players and my block players, but there wasn't enough to be gained/lost to close the deal on my end.

Ultimately, any deal that would shore up my defensive shortcomings was considered before offense. We have a top 5 offense, so getting another offensive player didn't make a ton of sense for us.
Somehow I manage.

I was looking for an elite rebounder with some defensive ability.
Robert Parish fit perfectly, but I admittedly sent a lowball offer for him, that wasn't as flashy as what he landed for.
For the record, it did include my 81 pick, which is projecting to be top 5 and would have likely remained in the top 10.
I also reached out about Corzine and a few others, but I want what everybody else wants as well.
So I decided to go the other route and move Benson who is solid.
I'm just hoping the draft in 81 will return me a piece that is a bit of an upgrade or maybe a phenom.

I was really loooking for just a better big to be able to score more points under the basket and get a few more rebounds. Would've loved to get Parish but that was such a big deal and wasn't willing to give up everything Seattle was asking for to get him. He definitely would be an upgrade, but idt it was THAT much of an upgrade to warrant that price.

Well, I got exactly what I was looking for in Robert Parrish. It was a steep price to pay, but he was exactly the type of player I want to put next to Laimbeer. There were some other bigs I did inquire about though, one or two PMs are STILL unread for them (winks at @SuperDog). But in the end I’m really happy with where I landed at the trade deadline. Hopefully this can help us make the push we need!
