TRAINING RULES (WEIGHT ROOM)

Post by WigNosy »

Re-posting here to make it easy to find. Copy of: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=4211 with some slight formatting changes for easier reading.

You are permitted to spend league points from your bank to train players subject to the rules outlined below:

TRAINING PERIODS
There are two paid training periods.
  • Between the sim of Offseason Training Camp and the first regular season sim - this first window is called the "Preseason Training period"
  • Between Regular Season Sim #7 (All-Star Weekend) and #8 (Trade Deadline) - this second window is called the "All Star Break Training period".
RESTRICTIONS:
  • Athleticism training is only permitted during the Preseason Training Camp Period.
  • Players who were on the all-league team the previous year or who already have purple potential are NOT eligible for paid training except Personal Foul training ("Section IV").
  • If a potential training ("Section I") or athleticism training ("Section III") would push a player into a purple potential (corresponds to a "Future" rating of 151 or greater), that training will be denied; if training is denied, points from your point bank are not spent (if you prefer, "refunded").
GENERAL - RATINGS BANDS
Player attributes (both "Current" and "Potential") generally range from 0 to 100. These may be thought of as being divided into "bands" that correspond to letter grades (when you see a letter grade of "A" through "F" on a page, the underlying rating is defined as follows).
  • A = 81 and up
  • B = 61 - 80
  • C = 41 - 60
  • D = 21 - 40
  • F = 0 - 20
SECTION I: POTENTIAL TRAINING (INCLUDES INS, JPS, FTS, 3PS, HND, PAS, ORB, DRB, PSD, PRD, STL, BLK)
1. A player may only receive one paid training affecting Potential per season (a player that trains one potential rating during the Preseason Training period may not receive a potential rating during the All Star Break Training period).

2. When paid training occurs, a player's "Potential" rating in a single attribute is increased to the next band up. The cost is based on his potential rating ("band") and age at the start of training as follows:
Potential RatingPlayer 31 or underPlayer over 31
F20 points15 points
D20 points15 points
C25 points20 points
B30 points25 points
Amay not be improvedmay not be improved
3. Potential ratings are raised by exactly 20 points except in the following circumstances:
  • Potential rating is exactly 0. In this case the potential will be raised to 21 (an increase of 20 points) to ensure it reaches the "D" band.
  • Potential rating is greater than 65 (in the "B" band). In this case potential will be raised to 85 (A band), but not higher. If you are planning on training a player with a "B" rated potential in an attribute, you may ask an admin before training to see if the numerical value of the potential will be raised by less than 20 points.
SECTION II: CURRENT RATING TRAINING FOR "SKILL" RATINGS WITH A POTENTIAL VALUE (INCLUDES INS, JPS, FTS, 3PS, HND, PAS, ORB, DRB, PSD, PRD, STL, BLK)
1. A player's "Current" rating in a single attribute may be increased as long as the "current" rating is below that player's "Potential Band" (i.e., a player with a potential of "B" may train a rating as long as it is under 61; once it reaches 61 it falls within the potential band and cannot be raised unless the potential is raised first).

2. A player may receive any number of paid trainings affecting "current" ratings; however, any given rating may be increased by no more than 10 points per season (i.e., you can train ORB, DRB, BLK, and PSD if you wish but no more than a 10 point increase in any one rating is allowed). This restriction carries across both training periods (i.e., if you train ORB by 7 points in the Pre-Season Training period, you cannot train ORB by more than 3 points in the All-Star Break Training period as that is a total increate of 10 points in the season).

3. Cost per point of increase for current ratings is based on the band the "current" rating falls into as follows:

F = 1.2 points
D = 1.5 points
C = 1.8 points
B = 2.1 points
A = may not be trained

4. Cost for multiple increases to a single attribute should be aggregated; round all fractions up. For example, increasing a rating of 35 (D band) costs 1.5 points to increase to 36; another 1.5 points to increase to 37 (3.0 total), 1.5 points to increase to 38 (4.5 total), 1.5 points to increase to 39 (6.0 total), 1.5 points to increase to 40 (7.5 total), and 1.5 points to increase to 41 (9.0 total). At this point the rating is in the C band and the cost increases to 1.8 points so increasing the rating to 42 costs 1.8 points (10.8 total), increasing to 43 is another 1.8 points (12.6 total), increasing to 44 is another 1.8 points (14.4 total) and increasing to 45 - the maximum 10-point increase for a single season - costs 1.8 more points (16.2 total, round up to 17). Note that if a player's potential were a C, the increases would have had to stop at 41 (since 40 is in the D-band, it can be increased; as soon as it reaches 41 it is in the C band and cannot be increased unless potential is increased).

SECTION III: "ATHLETIC" RATINGS WITH NO POTENTIAL (QKN, STR, JMP, STA)

1. A player's rating in a single rating with no potential may be increased as long as it is under 81, but each rating may be increased by no more than 5 points per season (again, this limit of 5 points is cumulative across both the Preseason and All Star Break Training periods).

2. Cost per point of increase for current ratings is based on the current rating:

0-20 = 1.6 points
21-40 = 2.2 points
41-60 = 2.6 points
61-80 = 3.0 points
81+ = may not be trained

SECTION IV: PERSONAL FOUL TRAINING

1. A player must have a foul rating of 80 or less (can be viewed at http://pbsl.ijbl.net/lists.php?page=playerssigned) to be eligible for foul training.

2. Foul training increases a player's foul rating by 10 points (maximum of 85) and may be applied once per player per season.

3. Cost to purchase this training is as follows based on rating prior to training.
RatingPurchase Cost (except Purple potential)Purchase Cost (Purple potential)
"F" Band (0-20)10 points15 points
"D" Band (21-40)15 points20 points
"C" Band (41-60)20 points25 points
"B" Band (61-80)25 points30 points
"A" Band (81+)Not eligiblenot eligible
APPENDIX A: TOTALLING COSTS
NOTE: Fractional point costs for all trainings taking place on the SAME player at the SAME time may be aggregated; always round resulting fractions up. Fractional point costs for trainings on DIFFERENT players may not be aggregated.

APPENDIX B: SAMPLE TRAINING REQUEST:

Julyan Stone (assume from this player page - http://pbsl.ijbl.net/2012/players/player364.htm)
POTENTIAL TRAINING - JPS (current band: C, increase to B) = 25 points (player is not over 31)
SKILL RATINGS TRAINING - JPS + 10 (35-40 in D band; 6*1.5 = 9 points. 41-44 in C band; 4*1.8 = 7.2 points), INS + 10 (33-40 in D band, 8*1.5 = 12 points; 41-42 in C band, 2*1.8 = 3.6 points) = 9+7.2+12+3.6 = 31.8 points
ATHLETIC TRAINING - Jump +2 (39-40 in D band; 2*2.2 points = 4.4 points).

Total Cost: 25+31.8+4.4 = 61.2 points, round up to 62 points.
