S72 Town Hall #10 Know Thy Self - (2 This Sim!)

Post by Mike Lowry »

What is the identity of your current team?
Is it the identity that you are aiming to build further?
Which players are responsible for your identity?

Rules: 1 point if you give thoughtful answers, which I will award after the timer ends for responses. The timer ends for responses at the moment the corresponding week's Sim is run.

Note: Use approximately 5 sentences as your bare minimum for 1 point. If you write 3 long, complex sentences, you'll still get a point. If you write 5, 3 word sentences, you will not get a point. Don't @ me.

Due: Sim 10 deadline.

Ooooh, this is interesting because I don't think I've always had an identity. I used to just look for high offensive scorers and hope to win that way. As I've learned the game more in the last 5 seasons. I think I've switched to being more methodical. For example, I have 2 starters that I don't care if they are heavy in the offense, Gates and Todd are specifically complimentary defensive players. They both are decent scorers inside and that helps. But theyre not here to score. This would have never been a focus of mine in the past.

My focus has definitely shifted away from pure offense to a more hybrid style of play. Not solely focusing on offense but also 2 way players. And even further, I've been focusing on guys who can stuff the stat sheet all around. I am 3rd in defensive points allowed and #1 in defensive efficiency. I have become a defensive GM. But with offense still. As I am also sitting at 3rd for points scored. I would have never thought in a million years I would have a defensive identity in Phoenix.

What is the identity of your current team?
Still trying to figure that out through lots of trades and injuries. I don't think their quite cohesive yet, and this is the first sim where everyone on the current roster has been healthy at the same time. Mostly, the identity is trying to get Sion to handle as much as possible.

Is it the identity that you are aiming to build further?
Yeah...once I discover that identity.

Which players are responsible for your identity?
Like I said earlier, mostly just Sion. He's far and away the most efficient player on the court, so getting the ball in his hands is the safest bet. He's also an incredible defender. Once playoff gameplanning comes up, it's probably going to be heavily focused on where to put Sion first and where to put the support around him second.

What is the identity of your current team?
We are a team in flux. We have some interesting frontcourt talent with Jackman and Wold but otherwise this team is in shambles right now.

Is it the identity that you are aiming to build further?
Lol no. This is a rebuilding year and we are getting beat up pretty badly. We will be better one day but right now we are nowhere close to what I want when I build this team. I will try and be aggressive during free agency next offseason to add more talent to the squad.

Which players are responsible for your identity?
Jackman and Wold are the only players who will be on the next year's roster so they are the "future" right now.

Identity of the team:
Still a ways to go before I can truly answer that but I have been building towards being a defensive minded team. And it's slowly working its way towards that. In the past we gave up so many points and now we're at our lowest PPG allowed in the 5 seasons I've been here. I'm hoping we see an even bigger step next season with some more development to our young guys.

Is it the identity you've been building towards?
Yes, I've put an emphasis in TC on developing my younger players defensively while also picking up Free agents who play really well on the defensive side of the ball. It's not quite where we want it to be yet but we have made progress and I'm excited to see if I can turn this team into truly one of the best defensive units in the game

Which players are responsible?
Markham, Ramos, and Homer. Ramos and Markham were great veteran additions to help this defense while homer, dick, and longar take another year to develop. Homer is really not far from being an elite, defensive PG. Another season or two and he should up there with the other top PGS.

What is the identity of your current team?
We are a team of playmakers and want to get to the foul line.

Is it the identity that you are aiming to build further?
Yeah, absolutely. We want to take advantage of how athletic we are as a squad so we play aggressively, especially on offense. We are good at getting to the foul line right now and once these guys hit their ceilings I think we are going to be elite.

Which players are responsible for your identity?
The starting lineup, particularly Rainwater, Bane, and Shinn right now.

My current team is an expensive rental that landed just incomplete.
I was trying to upgrade my point guard play at the same time as the majority of the league, because they stand out that much.
Instead, I have a collection of solid pieces that can lock down on defense.
I can see that my trades did impact my identity in ways that I have to adjust for, including ball distribution.
My cornerstones are Newland and Brimah, so I'm good with this identity moving forward.
Just looking for compliments that can gel.

What is the identity of your current team?
Our team has lived in the post for the duration of this build. Offensively and defensively, I have Breanna creating havoc underneath with Nick having become a bit of a strong sidekick. Kevin Cross and Delmer also contribute heavily to this identity with Cross getting most of his scoring inside and Delmer getting to the foul line regularly.

Is it the identity that you are aiming to build further?
We've pivoted a bit in the last few sims. Having a slow and methodical game led us to a number of victories, beating other teams up in the paint. We've expanded our offensive offerings, though, with our team's 3P% having gone up throughout the year, so with a bit more speed and more balanced offense we've been doing pretty well. Sometimes even your own homegrown team will surprise you if you let them.

Which players are responsible for your identity?
Hard to pick and choose. Breanna and Delmer are the stars. Kevin and Claxton are the glue holding things together, especially if Breanna and Delmer fall off a bit for a game. Marotta rounds out our starting 5 and then y/y Morelock continued his play like the g/g stud he's always been for us. Colton has hit his 3p stride and Nelson took Naji's spot. I don't know what else to say! We're a unit that falters without each of these players contributing.
Somehow I manage.

My identity this season has been "Improvise, Adapt, Survive." I put together a scrappy team of mid level blues with one goal, to make playoffs this year and have whoever is holding my draft pick get a worse pick. Not a great strategy or identity but it has definitely been fun to tamper a little more and be surprised by some sim outcomes. Not that I was ever at the Pisstons level where I was winning every game before, but I had 2 finals run with a very good team and i basically just had to same the way through the season and ended up with 40+ wins easily. Its a little tougher this time which has made it more fun.

I'm not really trying to build further, might even sell off a few next season to try and hit another tank before fully launching my rebuild in 2 seasons when I have full cap space available, less my draft picks.

I owe big credit to Jose, he was one of my major signing in UFA and has helped me through the season. Ron Harper Jr is one of my favorite guys and we will happily hang his jersey up in the Nuggets ring of honor after he retires.

My Identity is to tank. Who's helping me, no one. I may have to just accept that I might make the post season as the 8th seed. I have been going same all season but I guess that preseason DC is good enough to make the playoffs. There's only a few sims left. We'll see what happens. Hopefully a lottery pick. Hopefully after this season I can finally rebuild.
