Who was your greatest Vet Min signing ever?
What did they bring to your team?
Why did they stand out?
Why did they choose you?

Rules: 1 point if you give thoughtful answers, which I will award after the timer ends for responses. The timer ends for responses at the moment the corresponding week's Sim is run.

Note: Use approximately 5 sentences as your bare minimum for 1 point. If you write 3 long, complex sentences, you'll still get a point. If you write 5, 3 word sentences, you will not get a point. Don't @ me.

Due: Sim 5 deadline.

I've been at this for a long time, and generally, vet mins aren't going to make or break a team, so I only looked at my championship teams. The blue/blue vets most people end up with when they snag one on a min are nice, but never true game changers. I don't generally go after vet mins much...ever since the implementation of MLE, there's not much of a reason to go after blue chip mins when I value using the MLE, remaining cap space, or early bird and bird rights rules to retain talent.

Still, before MLE, and before player training was revamped, when role players were more important to winning a championship, I got a guy named Boris Hailey on a min...or what could have been a min, it's hard to tell 40 seasons later. He was a g/g big who just put up efficient numbers off the bench and helped me win my first one. The next season, he got paid, then he got eventually traded to Doug's Bucks and won another championship with them, cementing his image as a key lynchpin piece for championship teams in the early roarin' 20s.

Charlie Dimaggio and it’s not even close. This dude was some random second round cut that I picked up midseason and then the next season he’s averaging 22.5 points and 2.5 blocks as a y/g which was crazy since his currents were nowhere near where they are now. To put it in perspective his scoring average was higher than p/p players Kel'el Ware and Maxwell Lewis that season. The dude is worth every penny of his contract especially with this season’s TC bump.

I don't typically use any vet min players. They are usually just there to fill out rosters, or sometimes I just keep them on IR in case someone gets hurt. But a guy that I feel is my best 1yr/cheap signing is probably Kenneth Douglas this season. He's not putting up amazing stats but he's filled in nicely while Homer has been out and has been able to help keep this team afloat. He's averaging almost 9 points and 9 assists per game, obviously not elite but still solid enough to generate some offense while also playing some good defense too. In previous seasons, I've noticed losing a player and then just not being able to find ways to win. Sometimes finishing sims with 1, maybe 2 wins, and since Homer has gone out, I've stayed above .500. Again, he won't light up the scoreboard, but he has shown he is able to keep this team going in the right direction while we wait for one of our top players to come back

Who was your greatest Vet Min signing ever?
I really had to dig into the well here. I had no idea the answer to this, but digging into the past, it looks like it was probably Darwin Novotny http://pbsl.ijbl.net/2035/players/player652.htm

What did they bring to your team?
He was a PG! He wasn't a good player but he ran offense for me for years. Usually off the bench, but I guess in 2035 I had him primarily running the offense. Sure, why not?

Why did they stand out?
80 HND, 73 PAS

Why did they choose you?
Looks like they didn't in 2034, the <expletive deleted>. Probably why Roberto swept me for his title that year. Fryeing Novotny, maybe he was my best favorite vet min signing, but on deeper introspection, Darwin Novotny can kiss my ass and Darwin Award his ass off a cliff.

While we're looking at old stuff, Fryeing look at Roberto's champion Clippers

Good god what a team.
Somehow I manage.

Who was your greatest Vet Min signing ever? Well considering I technically only signed 2 players ever, I am going to go with the great Ervin Dendy. Ervin is strong as an ox and for some reason the 7'1" 300lb kid out of Miami decided to develop some sick handles. That combo has allowed him to average a lights-out 5.6 pts per game over his 9 year career. Can't believe he was just sitting out there for the taking.

What did The Ervin Dendy bring to my team? Ervin brought a butt to our bench and depth to our SF position while Claude Erickson couldn't leave a dark room for 2 months with the worst concussion of all time. Not sure he'll ever be the same.

Why did Ervin stand out? As stated above Mr. Dendy is 7'1 300lbs and boasts a 99 Drb for no reason what so ever. He is very strong and plays mediocre defense as well. Magic could use some more mediocre defense

Why did Ervin choose me? Good question. I would have stayed home. Thanks E!

Who was your greatest Vet Min signing ever?

I honestly had no idea, and probably still don't, but I bet this gentleman is as good of a choice as any. Ron Jarvis was my 6th man for multiple seasons, including on one of my best teams to not win a title (lost in 7 to The Delmar Bulls).

What did they bring to your team?
He was an efficient scorer (12 points per game off the bench), decent rebounder, elite shot blocker (4 per in the Finals run), and has an above average PER in his time in LA.

Why did they stand out?
Shot blocking, easy.

Why did they choose you?
Hollywood. Movie stars. Models. Losing in the Finals. Image

Joseph Morelock g/g

He was fire. Super efficient scorer. His field goal percentage was almost .600 on 30 minutes a game. He averaged almost 16 point a game. All around efficient. Rebounded enough. Out scored most blue/blue center players. He didn't turn it over. He could pass the ball some. Played solid defense. A rated defend. I paid him peanuts for 3 straight years. Trade him away and he still held it down for the warriors. Oh, and he could steal the ball better than most big men.

Who was your greatest Vet Min signing ever?
Jean Coss

What did they bring to your team?
Coss was a defensive specialist who had one task. Defend the best wing on the opponent's team.

Why did they stand out?
Coss excelled at his job. Mamba erased my second title from the record books but Coss shut down Safi in the Finals. I'm pretty sure Safi was held scoreless. You cannot fact-check me there so just take my word. In all seriousness, Coss did a remarkable job in the playoffs and never disrupted the offensive identity of the squad. He had one job and day in/day out he just went to work.

Why did they choose you?
That Grizzlies squad was built on elite defense so I think Coss bought into what we were building. Everybody won.

I think going into tax jail gives you a different perspective on this question because you're forced to bid min from the gate, and in my experience I always landed some of the guys I targeted in each round.
I would say Hassan Hodges was my best signing at the twilight of his career.
He gave me a couple of seasons of solid point play when my team was falling apart.
Just shy of a hand full of assists to go with mid teen point production with moderate turnovers.
It kind of surprised me that he was available when I landed him, but I think it's merely the fact that I was the only one thinking of using a first round UFA bid and he was hungry to get signed.

Kalin Lucas http://pbsl.ijbl.net/players/player140.htm

Lucas has provided quality depth off the bench this season. He has been able to rack up a lot of blocks in limited time which has been good for the team given its recent struggles. I like players who keep competing even though the team is struggling. It shows a lot of character and makes me want to bring them back. I'm not sure why Lucas picked the Raptors but I see he was a former 1st round pick before my GM tenure began. I think he just wanted a homecoming before retirement.

Kind of tough only have a few seasons to go back on, but I think the best Vet min I had was my first year i signed Colton Johnson to a min as G/G and he went into TC and exploded to a B/B. I didn't use him too much more than an off the bench guy, but the next season he got a decent contract so that was really interesting to see.

A few seasons ago I was in a weird tank ish season where I finally wanted a chance at a lottery pick. I had a young not developed yet, Herman Cambell. A budding superstar in Maxwell Lewis who was not what he is now. He was still a 23 year old baby. Rick lemley was signed as a G/G wing to just help me field a roster in what was certainly a rebuild year with my best and only great player being Ross Finch. Maxwell Lewis missed 15 games but boy did Rick step up. Somehow a team of misfits lead by big Ross Finch got me to 38-44 and a 7th place postseason birth. Rick averaged 15 & rbds while shooting .419 from 3. i was kinda meh all season but Ross was too influential to me winning entirely too many games. I decided after Lewis came back, to push and Gameplan for making the season. We won 8 of our final 10 and backdoored into the playoffs by 1 game. Which allowed me to continue my playoff streak and I now sit at 8 consecutive seasons of making the playoffs. I believe I am second only to the pacers in that streak of consecutive appearances. But don't quote me. Love you Rick
