Brooklyn Nets 71st Press Conference

Post by RPF »

Good afternoon, everyone.

I want to start by thanking you all for being here today. It’s been an exciting and dynamic offseason for the Brooklyn Nets, and we're eager to share insights into our recent training camp and roster adjustments.

The decision to trade Fly Williams was undoubtedly difficult. He's been a core member of this franchise and a fan favorite. However, after careful evaluation, we determined that acquiring Maci Currin aligned better with our long-term strategic goals. Maci's exceptional performance during training camp has solidified our belief that he's the right player to complement our roster. His versatility, coupled with his competitive spirit, makes him a valuable addition to our team.

The team has rallied around Maci, creating a welcoming and supportive environment. His positive energy has been infectious, and he's quickly earned the respect of his teammates. We're excited to see how he develops throughout the season.

Training camp was incredibly competitive, which is exactly what we wanted. Jordan, Richard, and Bones have all made significant strides in their development. Jordan's improved shooting and defensive awareness are a testament to his hard work. Richard's leadership has been invaluable, and his ability to inspire his teammates is commendable. And Bones continues to be a dynamic playmaker who can change the game with his creativity. We're confident in their ability to take on expanded roles this season.

Supreme has encountered some challenges, which is never ideal. However, he's a resilient player with a strong work ethic. We're working closely with him to help him regain his confidence and find his rhythm. We believe in Supreme's talent and potential, and we're committed to supporting him as he works through this period.

We're excited about the upcoming season and believe we have a team capable of competing at the highest level. Thank you everyone for coming out here. With that being said, I will now open the floor to questions from the media.

Desert here, do you think you can knock off the Wizards and take their division crown? What's it going to take?

Do you plan to redshirt Tyler Kolek this season?

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: The Nets brought in Paolo Banchero and Alphonse Morelock in UFA to go with a team that's universally a decade younger. We're these signings an indication of an intent to win now, the need for veteran leadership, potential trade value, or something else entirely? And how has training camp shift their roles on the team if it does at all?

Looking over the entirety of your off-season, is there one move that you now wish you'd have made that didn't quite come together?

It's going to take consistency, discipline, and a relentless focus on the little things. We need to bring our best every night, especially against top competition like Washington. The key will be maintaining our defensive intensity and playing as a cohesive unit. If we can do that, we'll put ourselves in a position to compete for the division crown.

We've discussed the possibility of redshirting Tyler Kolek, but no final decision has been made yet. Tyler is a talented player with a bright future, and we want to do what's best for his development and the team.

Bringing in Paolo Banchero and Alphonse Morelock was a strategic move for several reasons. First and foremost, both players bring experience and leadership, which is invaluable for a young team like ours. While we're focused on developing our young core, we also want to be competitive right now, and Paolo and Alphonse help us balance those goals.

You know, in this business, there are always moves that you explore and negotiations that don't quite come together the way you hoped. We had a few irons in the fire this offseason, and while we're very pleased with the roster we've assembled, there's always that one move you wonder about. Without getting into specifics, there was an opportunity to add another dynamic shooter to our lineup- someone who could have provided additional spacing and depth. It was close, but for various reasons, it didn't materialize.
