The Memphis Grizzlies are slowly making progress to become relevant again. The last few seasons have been rough but we are building a young nucleus I think that is among the league's most promising asset pool. We were fortunate enough to land the #1 pick and selected Josh Giddey. We know there was some controversy around the selection but I want our fans to be reassured that we wholeheartedly believe this was the best decision both on and off the court.
We tried to hit the ground running during RFA, inking three promising players to max deals. Unfortunately, those trade talks were nonexistent so we took all of our cap space into UFA. We had a grand plan to go heavy into the tax again but I was just slow to get talks going and my target list quickly got snatched up by other teams. It was then I decided to reign it in and play a bit more conservatively for now. We managed to sign two incredible frontcourt talents Kevon Looney and Victor Wembanyama to pair with the newly purple Tennessee Rainwater and the emerging Desmond Bane. We are also planning to redshirt Josh Giddey this season while he continues to develop in the G-League.
Overall, I am sticking to a more patient approach with my team and will look to make a splash in the seasons to come. I expect teams will reach out about our cap space soon enough so hopefully, I'll be able to build back our bank to train Giddey and Bane even more. For the first time in a long time, I'm excited about what is going on in Memphis so I look forward to this season and beyond.
Sham Smith, Bulls.com: If the young core of the Grizzlies sticks together for the better part of the next decade, what modern day PBSL teams are they modeled after--or at least comparable to?
Even though it means you had a rough season, congrats on the #1 pick. We look forward to seeing how Giddey develops in the years to come. You mentioned making a splash in seasons to come, how long into the future do you foresee that splash coming? Are you going to stick with the patient approach or look towards making move in the very near future?

I think right now the Dallas Mavericks. The guys remind me of their build in that they offer versatility in the backcourt and are athletic enough to be true mismatches on the court.

Chet Youbetcha, Dimmadome News: Who do you think will be your biggest wild card player of this young core, assuming they stay around?
Josh Giddey. He can play anywhere so finding a permanent spot for him will be interesting.
Justin Bieber, Teremana.com: It's been a very long time since you had a winning record. Do you think it was a mistake to move your talents to the Grizz. Rumors have it, you should have stay with your previous team. Now that you are not in the same division with the Cavs, do you feel relieved? Is your stress level now low? Are you happy now?
Kevin Kutlery, MTV: Desmond Bane is undoubtedly a superstar in the making. What sort of numbers do you anticipate him putting up this season, especially since most of your go-to guys are big men?

I mean I won a title in 3 seasons after the move to Memphis. What more do expect?
I am quite sad I no longer can play in the same division as the Cavs. Their window is closing rapidly and their inevitable implosion will be a sight to behold. Thank you for the question. I think.

Thanks, congrats on landing #2 and #3 too. It will be interesting to chart their career trajectories down the road.
Realistically speaking, I think I will be able to make some noise once Bane hits RFA after S72. I'll try to load up on talent then and when Giddey's extension comes the following year I'll have a group of players ready to compete.
