50 Years A Bull: S70 Bulls Presser

Post by garbageman »

As we enter the 70th season of PBSL, we'll also be entering a milestone year in my career: this will be my 50th season as Bulls GM. I've done about everything you can do and seen about everything you could see in 50 seasons, and it's been a wild ride that Bulls Owner Roman Roy won't let me leave. For the love of god, I'm an old <expletive deleted> man. Just let me retire already.

We had a decent amount of cap space heading into the offseason, and we made some tough decisions to try to maximize that cap space in a healthy UFA class. We traded Remy Martin to the Raptors for former Bull and future former Bull alike, Alex Fudge. Don't get too comfortable, Al. The rumors are true. We're looking to send Fudge packing.

Sorry. That was Roman. He forced me to use that once he heard we got a player named Fudge. Said the preseason presser could be whatever I wanted it to be as long as that line about Fudge packing made the cut. In any case, we had a lot of flexibility in free agency to take some big swings and try to retool after a season where we were so close to reaching up and grabbing that brass ring. On that front, we didn't do too poorly.

We're excited to bring a basketball legend in Safi Fino-A-Laself to Chicago. Safi is a first-ballot hall-of-fame caliber player, and we're really excited to see him share a floor with Mac McClung. We also managed to bring in offensive juggernaut Trey Murphy III and are happy to welcome Brandon Ingram back for a third season here. With those three options for Mac to facilitate to, we're hoping to have an offense like you've rarely seen in Chicago. High powered. Flame throwing. Maximum excitement.

Now you may be asking, "What do you mean he won't LET you leave?" or "You're a grown adult. Why don't you just make your own decisions?" or "Just finish up talking about the Bulls offseason and talk about the regular season already!"

And to that, I say that we also managed to sign Saul King, so if anybody does miss a three, we've got a rebounding master to get us as many second chance points as possible. While a lot of our depth from last year left for more than we could offer after securing a surefire starting 5, we did manage to get many of our second unit targets, and we'll see who is able to sink or swim in this new scheme.

Also, he knows a terrible secret.

Our new division is tough. We've got fellow conference finalists in the Mavericks; a very young, tough, and talented Spurs team; and a Raptors team that's the strongest pennpanther's put together yet. Still, we hope to keep the division lead within reach. There are a lot of teams that could make it out of this conference, and we're confident we're one of those teams.

Feel free to ask any questions. I will not be answering any questions about the terrible secret.

50 Seasons is BIG!
Makes sense how you navigate these battle fields and perennially contend for titles.
You can't be serious though.
We have to know about the secret.
And does the secret involve Alex Fudge getting packed by Bulls management at the Diddy party?
Seriously, who's wife did that guy nail that you want him out of town So badly?
I feel like I've been driving past billboards of his pedophile registry photo.
Talk about persona non grata.
He's probably a bed wetter who falls asleep on every team flight.
And I guess I'll include the Remy move too.
They both look like solid players to me.
I'm openly declaring that I'll send you an offer for Fudge on day 60.
But what about him and Remy tells you it's time to move them?
What cha gonna do

They say that timing is everything and for Remy and Fudge both are victims of bad timing. With Remy, we wanted to make a splash in free agency, and even though we think Remy is just as important a player as Mac, he's a much different player who thrives in a different system than McClung and Ingram did. Moving him now for Fudge opened up the cap space for us to put a three point shooting team around Mac where we can really space the floor out. As for Fudge, he is a good return talent-wise, but in terms of fit, he's also not someone who fits perfectly with our present team and with his contract year coming up and a tax reset in dire need, not someone who lines up with our plans in the immediate future. We thought if his training camp was good enough, he might be able to play big minutes for us at stretch four, but we're still considering redshirting him at least to start out the season so if we do trade him, he still qualifies as a rookie, which might be a selling point to teams looking to acquire him.

You lost a couple of key reserves from the past few seasons in Antonio Blakeney and Charles Alleman. How do you plan to replace their production this season?

Yeah, we did. Our team is going to have to rely more on our starters this year than last year, and we're hoping that having an identity beyond just "5 good players" is going to be enough to make up for that. As far as the second unit goes, we think that Schiff and Ingham are going to be decent producers up front, but we're going to have to see who steps up and can give us an offensive scoring punch in the backcourt. Kimball's got good size and can distribute the ball, so we'll slide him into the backup PG spot, and we've got some interesting options with Gregory Jackson and Earnest Fisher on the wing, but we'll have to see who fits best or figure out a way to stagger our starters minutes so that there's always someone with a lot of skill to lead the floor.

Do you anticipate making another run for a championship this season to win one to mark your 50th season as Bulls GM?

The Omega conference seems falirly wide open, and I feel like there are about six teams wlho will be in the mix for that conference championship. Without a monolith like the Pistons to contend with, I think it's a tough but possible route back to the bug dance, and if Pistons are going for a repeat, I'm the one GM that has Quailman SHOOK in a finals matchup

Have you entered any negotiations with Roman Roy regarding the conditions in which he would let you retire? Or did he joke about packing your fudge and ignore your question?

This was Mac's first TC decline. Can you explain to newer GMs why he's still good for years to come? Or is Roman still distracting you with fudge packing jokes?
Somehow I manage.

I can, but Black Superman wrote an article about it, so I suggest everyone go read that. Or take a look at McClung's stats.
