S69 Town Hall #2: Positivity

Post by MexicanMamba »

Since Town Hall #1 was all about negativity, let's be positive for #2.

Tell us the one positive thing from the off-season and/or Sim 1 that you feel good about regarding your team. Then, maybe drop a few words about the best thing you saw another GM do.

Note: Use approximately 5 sentences as your bare minimum for 1 point. If you write 3 long, complex sentences, you'll still get a point. If you write 5 3 word sentences, you will not get a point. Don't @ me.

Due: Sim 2 deadline.

For me, I definitely was able to feel a spark as I was able to start moving on from most of my key vets. It's tough when you want to reset, but the deals don't come, but mine did. So, now I'm kind of excited about the coming possibilities I'll have to work with. For sim 1, I think Robby Owens is actually the fun surprise of the sim for L.A. In bench minutes, he averaged 12 points, 3 assists and 3 steals and did the scoring on surprisingly efficient shooting splits. I'll be moving him into a bigger minutes split in sim 2 to see if it carries over. As for other teams, though it didn't work out for him, I do appreciate the Mavs finally trying to for broke to maximize the roster. I'm one who does think Ware deserves more (and maybe if the Bucks were run by an actual GM and not being stewarded it would've happened), but regardless, Clark is a good asset and Parker is a solid player who is still very young, so effort was being made and its those kinds of swings that lead to championships eventually.

After getting over resim-gate, I was finally able to take a look at how my team did. And outside of injuries, we actually played slightly better this time around even though we lost one more game. Tony Lee is playing like a stud early on and I hope he can keep that going throughout the season. If baba and Markham can a bit more production in the points department, then this team could surprise this league. I really feel like this team can compete and make a push for the 7 seed, I know it’s not a high standard but with how this team has performed the last couple of seasons, we’ll take every win we can get.

Tennessee Rainwater is the real deal. I love that dude. Desmond Bane also is going to be fun to watch develop.

Elsewhere, the Kings are continuing to King. They lost Gary Rockwell and Kevon Looney in UFA and replaced them with $120M in contracts for Booker Davis, Allie Quigley, and Ronald Ainsworth and are still doing better than the Hawks and Heat. I dont know how SuperDog does it, but bravo. You are the GM I want to be in sim league.

Claude Erickson has been a pleasant surprise. The team is +9 points with him on the court. Funky and Akins are doing phenomenal well. Chane Behanan is turning into a defensive presence as well. The bench is also a million times better (specifically on defense) than the ones I had the last two seasons when the team made the playoffs so I’m cautiously optimistic about this season.

The best thing so far for the Bulls has been UFA. Getting back all my b/b guys on the contracts I offered them was unexpected, and getting Alphonse Morelock to sign before my cap space was taken up was great, too. As for other folks, I've pointed it out before, but Black Superman is a really fast learner who will be able to take over as commissioner sooner than expected, and he made some great moves with his team to compete. MexicanMamba was able to turn around a championship team and find solid value for Johnny Davis, Fabian Hub, and Ron Harper Jr. I liked seeing Mike Lowry grab Gary Rockwell now that he's out of tax jail.

As much as I want to say(there's nothing positive about my first sim) that would be lying. Phil getting hurt absolutely destroyed any excitement I had for this season. I want to keep trying but 122 days is rough. I'm not even sure if I'll earn enough points to pay off my gigantic tax bill this season. Yeah this positive question has definitely lead me into just talking more negative. So I'll continue my rant....lol Jk.

One good thing about my first sim is that Maxwell is starting to blossom. And that gets me erect. I got him when he was a young thing, and I trained him to a purple thang. He always had promise though and I'm excited to see him average 20+ this first sim given the fact that Johnny is a ball hog and Ross/Phil also played most of that sim. If he's not going to be shy and will find a place amongst those stars, then the sky is the limit! This guy will be a star in this league one day because he can score every which way and he's a thief on defense. the height and athleticism gives him all the tools to just be electric. His shooting splits are up. Do I expect him to stay in the 50-40-90 club? ABSOLUTELY. Go get it Max!

I never set out to lose until I know that losing is my primary option...but I won 3 games! After going 0-6 in the preseason I thought I didn't have a prayer, but I'm going to keep messing around with this team and see what I can improve. Plenty of people are on my trade block and I'm down to chat with anyone.

It's a little early to tell what he will become, but I like a Kevin Cross with some A potentials. And some purp. What a TC boost!

Even though I like talking a lot of shit, I do respect the hell out of the GMs that I go after. @K-100 was my first dance partner, and many more after that, and most recently I've gone after my own, a GM that might be playing this game harder than anyone else right now. I've got nothing but love and respect for the vigor and tenacity @LazyTitanSmash brings to this game. I might not agree with him or what he's doing, but he's doing the damn thing, and if he keeps doing the damn thing he's going to be kicking all of our asses before we know it.

Probably this season.

On that tip shout out to @Black Superman for taking some epic swings this offseason, too. You came in with a plan and executed and left no one worse for wear once your deals were done. Not only that, you're the reason we're simming into S70. I would have loved to be the guy to do that if I had the time, but I didn't, don't, and am not the guy. YOU'RE the guy. And as other commishes have noted, heavy lies the crown, so for all the additional wear and tear you endure over the coming seasons for our enjoyment, thanks in advance. On behalf of all of us - even those of us that yell and scream the loudest - we appreciate you, homie.

So lets all put some RESPEK on these guys' names

After a 24 hour cooling off period and 3 pages of ranting in my next article, "Nobody wants your old ass," I'm ready to jump back on the positivity train.

First shout out to @Mike Lowry and decisive action. I love trading with this guy, he hasn't stirred me wrong yet. Every deal I've made with him has made my team better.

I may never make a trade with him because we see the game differently (at least as far as the value of a 30+ year old max contract players goes) but @greepleairport is still one of the best dudes ever.

Oh and @garbageman your an awesome part of the sim league community, thanks for putting the time in.

Very pleased with how Ron Harper is performing in this early period. I was nervous about the trade to begin with, first big trade and all that, but it definitely seems he can help me win now, which was my plan for this year. I know it’s controversial but I’m also happy that we got a resim, my record stayed the same, but I had lost one of my guys to an ACL tear for multiple weeks and having that not happen is always good, especially since injuries like that can have an effect on the player going forward.

Sim 1 showed how Supreme took a real leap. His decision-making improved drastically, his court vision was on point, and he consistently made his teammates better. He's always been a talented passer, but now he's starting to understand the nuances of running an offense. He reads defenses well, anticipates cuts, and delivers pinpoint passes that are leading to easy baskets. He's embracing the role of floor general, directing traffic on the court. His ability to push the pace and create scoring opportunities for his teammates is invaluable.

That trade was one of the worst trades I've ever seen in Sim League history.
I am very happy that I live rent free in people's heads.

I am also happy that the sim was re-run. I went from a 4-4 sim with a negative point diff to a 6-4 record with a good showing from the team. I think it truly showed how wild Sim is, and how at the end of the day your gameplans may really have no effect on how your team does. I am also happy that the re-run happened because the Pelicans were saved from having a good season when they should actively be tanking.

I'm really happy Kamari Brown has taken a step forward with his scoring. I think he has a great shot at finishing in the Top 10. Overall, I like the team's athleticism and the general build so I am excited about the start of the season for the first time in a while.

I am really impressed with teams like the Suns and Mavericks taking a chance to compete for a title. They have not had much success in the league so far so it is great to see new teams like these make a push for once.

It feels like the Magic really have some tiered depth and guys that can play their roles instead of being dependent on one or two guys (sorry Ned Lomax). Fabian Hub was a beast during the 1st sim and his play as a defensive anchor helps to neutralize the opposing front court option. Bricker and Benfield are dynamic scoring options from the perimeter and are going to create their own offense at times. Gupton’s selflessness along with Samples helps to do the dirty work to help out the rest of the starting unit. I really like the direction of the squad going forward.

Around the league, it’s going to be fun to watch the Pistons and Rockets continue to clash to claim that respective division and likewise with the Suns (even with the Phil injury) and Mavs. All are elite teams that can create nightmares for matchups for the opposing squad. I think the Wizards are also going to make a good run this year and I think they have another move up their sleeve come either Day 60 or the Trade Deadline to put them in an even better spot than they are now.

The only positive thing right now for the spurs is Sim 1 we went 6-4. The fans are feeling good about the start. Jose was injured but whipping up on the rockets and Peewee averaging 30 points per game in like 34 mins was nice. Peewee was play of the week and looking good. Newland averaged close to 20 ppg and miller was at around 17 ppg iirc. That 1st sim was really good for us here in SA. Then I realized it was all a dream woke up to reality, checked the index and saw that we were 3-7.

First thing was getting out of jail!
The tax is a bitch!
I had no idea how much fun is taken out of this game when you can't sign free agents.
Right now I have no intention of competing and I'm having a blast.
My team became a fire sale while I was locked up and I don't know if my style will go back.
Negotiations seem better when they result in something.

Also, had a great offseason.
Lester Quinones was an excellent acquisition.
Gary Rockwell was my number one target.
He can push a team over the top if their competing for a title, and I got him for a price that is not Jordan Poole or Alvarado.
Can't wait to wrap him in shiny packaging and ship him out.
What cha gonna do

I’m happy with the patience I’ve had with my team and how I’m finally seeing the fruits of said patience. Through 2 sims (sim 1 and resim 1), I’m 17-1 and the team is already clicking. Lauri is just so impressive so far.

And I’m thankful for @Black Superman stepping up and signing up for a gradual sanity-diminishing job of commissioner and for letting us bury the hatchet. Chin up about Phil, bud. It’s gonna be okay!

Jonathan Isaac and Devin Vessell are legit good. Both can score a lot of points. Both are young and will be good for the next few seasons.

I think Timberwolves GM. I'm actually surprised how good they played. I didn't expect them to be 1st in our division. However, after SIM 1injuries, I'm afraid they won't be able to keep up their hot start.
