POWERRR Rankings S68

Post by AngryBanana »

The thing we all know and love (and never slightly understood the fully math behind) is back! I decided since I have some time on my hands right now, I would start with pre-season. So The Week number will one week off given this fact.

The rankings will take some time to get a feel for who the real power players are. As we also wait to see how teams turn out, given trades, first sim luck, etc.

Enjoy

Yeah... I know it is wonky, but please wait a few sims. The last time I went all the way to the end, the team rankings had started to correct itself by about half way if I remember correctly. It bases the rankings on playing against other teams, and what their rankings were (and how big of a margin of win/loss there was). So as it accrues more data, the more accurate it should become.

Let's see if that lasts, in both a good or bad way.

Sim 3
A few notes: I updated the spreadsheet some to show some new data points that may help show when the powerrr ranking looks more reasonably done. So I have the win, loss, and % showing. I also updated the spreadsheet to look better with the color formatting. If y'all have any recommendations to refine the look of this rankings let me know. The only downside of this spreadsheet is that I can only upload a JPEG and this is the biggest I can make it, to my knowledge.

Sim 4
Apparently it only takes one loss for the Rockets to drop from the top spot. Is this a testament to how strong the Alpha conference, or the Glen Sabo division. Or maybe the opposite, and beating teams like the Pelicans by a 259-171 margin then that may not help your composite score either. There are still some outliers though that tell me it still needs a few more sims worth of data. Things such as the kings being so high, while the Hawks are so low for starters...

I do wonder if I shortened my sim periods on my data sheet, if that would more positively affect the data. Where shorter date ranges between updating the rankings may allow more fluid changes in the results, and lead to more accurate results sooner rather then just bulk importing the whole sim results then running. I also wonder if anyone will ever see this text. I don't know... However, as I talk this out in my head I realize that I would never want to do this in a normal work week, so it will probably stay the format it has been to date.

Enjoy
