Pelicans Pre Season Presser

Post by BigDaddyd8720 »

(whispering) “oh we’re getting dinner after this?..... Where are we going?.... Yall taking orders or we’re going there?’.... Ok have them order me the chicky chicky parm parm, extra garlic bread.”..... No i don’t need any other sides”......

Oh wait, is this mic on?! Why didn’t anybody tell me this started?

Good afternoon everybody and welcome in to the Fill Yo Pouch preseason presser!!!!

First off, my name is David but you can just call me BigDaddyD aka Mr. Fill yo Pouch. I’m excited for the opportunity to lead my hometown team and believe that we can bring this city a championship sooner than people think. This offseason got off to a rocky start but I can assure you that I will put in 110% effort everyday so the players, coaches, and fans can be proud of the results they see week in and week out. We’re a pretty young team but we have some great veteran leadership that can definitely put these kids on the right path. We have a long road ahead of us but we are more than ready to face the challenges that we will meet along the way.

I understand the scrutiny that I will receive for being the only GM under the age of 50 but I believe that my youthfulness will bring in a different way to look at how the game is played. We’re going to implement some interesting strategies early on, some of it may work, most of it will not. But again, we will do everything we can to improve this team and bring in a winning culture that this team hasn’t seen in over 40 years. That 2015-2016 was something magical. And even though I was born when it happened, I have watched that season over and over again trying to bring that type of culture everywhere I go.

As for the roster, I don’t have too much insight since I am still learning the ropes with this team but between Zike and Ayo being my veteran leaders and the potential we see in Lee and Cottrill, I truly believe we will see a vast improvement compared to what has been put out the past couple of seasons.

Thank you all for coming out today and will now offer up this time for any questions you may have. And always remember, FILL YO POUCH!!!

Brooklyn Gazette: What can we expect from the Pelicans this season? Was the pre season just guys not taking it seriously or a precursor to the season?

I'm not going to sugarcoat it, this season we don't have the highest of expectations. We're mainly going in to see who on this team is willing to buy in to our system and is willing to put in the work. That's not to say that's an excuse for if we lose. We just have a lot of work to do to get to where we want to be and we just have to take it one day at a time. As for the preseason, we really just wanted to see if we could rotate guys in and out and just get some kind of familiarity with each other. it'll be more of the same in the regular season but I do expect this team to fight every single game.

First off I would like to say I am extremely jealous of your chicky chicky parm parm with extra garlic bread. Seems right up my alley and I'm starving.

Secondly, how soon would you say is "sooner than people think" to bring this town a championship? How many years under your system will it take for this team to actually be a competitor?

Right now, nothing. But we're looking forward to filling it with wins and championships. Pelicans can store quite a lot in their pouches

Hahaha Chicky Chicky parm parm is always a go to for me. And if you want to join us for dinner, you are more than welcome. I'm looking forward to not only working with this team but also with you reporters. I want everybody to understand the Fill Yo Pouch way isn't just about this team. It's about every single one of us within this sport that we all love.

As for how "soon" can we expect a championship, look, I can't see the future. If I could, I'd be sitting on my yacht next to my private island right now because I just hit the lottery for the third time. (audience chuckles). But let's be real, new GM, young team, coming off a bad season, nobody is expecting us to do anything. I've already heard from people that we should just tank this season. But I'm not here for that. I'm here to win! And I know it's not going to happen over night, but we will definitely do our best to improve each and every day to get to where we want and need to be.

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: Welcome to the league! As a new GM, what's the best piece of advice you've gotten so far, and what's the thing about the league that makes the least sense to you?

Great questions!

As far as advice goes, I've mainly just heard that we should be in tank mode. And I gotta say, that just adds fuel to the fire. One GM, who remain nameless, had been helping me navigate through everything but after seeing his presser and the disrespect he has shown towards this organization, I'm not so sure we will be in much contact with him anymore.

As far as what makes the least sense to me, It's mainly all the different threads in here. Trying to figure out where to post everything has been the most difficult for me but that will change soon. I like to think I'm a quick learner but we shall see
