SEASON 67 - LIVE FROM TORONTO PENNY'S PRESS CONFERENCE (TAX JAIL EDITION)

Post by pennpanther1 »

Hello!

Coming to you live from tax jail, it's Penny!

Look folks, I am cursed. The Raptors are cursed. WE CANNOT WIN A PLAYOFF SERIES.

It was fun at first to give the good teams a scare in the first round. I was just getting started so I didn't know any better. But I am tired of losing. I know my team's window is closing rapidly and points are at a premium but I just want to win once before I say goodbye to this team forever. We were a bit hamstrung this offseason since we have an unpaid bill but we managed to retain Angelo Romero and added several free agents including Jericho Sims, Allie Quigley, and Mckinley Ingham. We did manage to make a splash trade right before training camp when we sent fan favorite Jordan Poole down to Orlando for Clarence Martin, Evan Martin, and Nic Claxton. We are really excited about Claxton and Barber's potential ceilings. We also drafted Logan Gilley who is also a future piece of our frontcourt. Overall, I am excited to give this another try this season because I know I'll have to get out of tax jail and rebuild soon.

Thank you for your time. Any questions?

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: With the Raptors at over 90mm above the cap in a repeater season, is there a target to where you want your team's cap to be at after the trade deadline, and does how well your team is doing influence where that number is?

I'd like to be at least under $75 million if possible. I do not mind being in the tax but I made a big mistake last season since I did not cut some salary before the trade deadline. I'll try not to repeat that mistake this season.

Do you have any deals in the works to move on from some contracts with the hopes of brining in points... or are you looking to take on longer contracts (a la the Grizzlies route) to keep winning some games and earning points that way by putting together a middling-to-average team over the seasons you're in tax jail?

I'll be out of tax jail as soon as this presser is counted but for this season's bill I'm going to try and win as many games as possible and make a run for the playoffs. If the team starts out slowly, I'll look to sell and get points that way.
