Spurs Preseason Presser

Post by Eazy P »

Welcome to the San Antonio preseason presser. As always thank you for being here when you could've been somewhere else. First off we will like to thank the spurs fans for their support of the franchise. With that said let's talk about last season. We went into last season with high hopes. Hoping to make a big splash in the trade market but ended up staying pat and rolling with the guys we had on the roster cause we could not find anything that we thought was a fit at the time. Even though we didn't make the post season we did improve our record. Felt good about the improvements but knew we needed make a move in the off-season to become even better.

With the assets we had available we knew it was possible. Then the lotto gawds showed up big for us. Helped us become big players in getting a guy that can help. When José Alvarado became available we knew we had to try and get him. After great talks with the Nets we were able to agree on a deal that benefited both of our franchises. The addition of Jose Alvarado brings a facilitating guard to our team. We feel he can help set up our scorers for high percentage shots. And he's also a good perimeter defender. We hoping he can get this team to the next level and hopefully beyond.

Our goals for this season is the make it to the playoffs and if that means we have to make another big move we will. We are proud of the results of our TC this season. The guys worked the butt off to improve and we hope to see it translate on the court in the regular season. With that said we hope we can make our fans proud this season.

If there's any questions about anything I missed or questions in general, as always I will answer to the best of my ability.

What is the next position you think could be improved on your team?

Hoyt Timmerman has started the majority of the games the last 3 seasons. Will there be any issues with him coming off the bench this year? Also what is the long-term plan with Timmerman with Alvaredo starting?

How have you managed to remain so patient with this build?

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: If you made an all-Pedraza-division starting 5, who would be on it?

Good question. I feel like the only position that may need tweaking is the PF/C position. Depending on what happens early on will determine if we should stay pat or go out and make a splash. We do feel like Kozak can play both positions. So whomever, if we make a trade, bring on will determine where Kozak play in the lineup.

Our plans for the first sim is to have Hoyt start at the SF position. We feel that putting him into the starting 5 will help our perimeter defense along with Peewee and Jose. We aren't looking for him to score a bunch but want him to play lockdown defense. As of now the long term plan is to keep Hoyt around.

This is the foundation of my SLOE existence. I have always been a patient person when it comes to building teams. I like the process. At times it gets boring but the potential reward at the end makes it all worth it. I just don't like trading for the hell of it. Not to say that I wouldn't trade for the hell of it, just have to catch me at the right moment.

There are a number of team in this bloodbath of a division can't name just one because those team's rosters are built to win now. It's going to be tough and challenging but we hope to come out on top or be good enough to get into the post season.

My Starting 5 would be:

C: Phil Smith
PF: Lomax
SF: BI
SG: Peewee
PG: Jose

I always liked Uncle Phil since Louie was the Hawks GM.

Rick Sewerman, Daily Beast: The San Antonio Spurs are loaded with superstars, most notably Matthew Faulkner, the center out of Middle Tennessee who currently has a warrant for his arrest for assault & battery. Last season he averaged a jaw-dropping 6.3 points per 16.4 minutes. Despite his struggles off the court, do you foresee him becoming a valuable Starter in the near future, and if not, why are you so afraid of giving him the chance?

We talked with Matthew and he knows what he has to do both on and off the court. We think he has matured as a person since we brought him on. As far as being a starter, he will have to put in the work and earn playing time like others have done by improving in TC. I think he has potential but it's up to him to be the best he can be.
