Hello all... I know that I should probably write a longer presser than what you are about to see, but I think this presser will reflect how I approach this year: laid back.
So last year was rough on me. I was very depleted from a team building standpoint because of the hits that Bridges (RFA locked) and Chief had. Then when I tried to move AB as a result, no one gave me anything of interest. So I decided to just go in and make the most of it for AB. So I thought, what is the best way to do that. Lets get him MVP. So I did my best to build the gameplan to his strengths, and nothing else. It worked. Then playoffs came and we lost in the first round. After that, the earth suddenly froze for a long period of time (really weird).
When we returned from the long break I decided that it was time to push the AB trade block again, as I knew I was not in a position to compete with the build, and would not retain Chief. So finally I decided that Antonio Gates was the future of the Celtics...
To AB: thank you. You provided me with not only one of the best players I have ever coached, but also my first MVP and championship. Please know that all of the slander you receive from me here on out is from a place of love.
AB on the Suns will probably regress hard. He will no longer have the power of Dunkin' on his side, and as such will look like Tom Brady when he played for Tampa Bay the last season before retiring.
On to the now. We now have the basketball player, turned football player, returned to basketball Antonio Gates. I think we will call him AG, but may also just call him #Gates. The incoming of him and Chane are welcome additions to a younger more robust core that will hopefully lead to a longstanding winning culture in Boston. Both of them this season will more than likely be red shirted though. In other news, Bridges is back and better than last season. He is even close to pre TC slaughtering. Also, we decided in UFA, to go more for the quality signings (so not a max, or near max for Chief) and players we hoped would develop into quality deals on the contracts they had moving forward not currently. We tried to bring in people like Saul King on a team friendly deal. The hope for King was that he would also bounce back in TC, which was successful. Other players we identified were Bonilla, Chris Jackson, Orlando Allison, and Mark Wheeler. We also tried to go after Anas and Bone on higher contract deals and shorter years, but lost out. So with the near max number we had available in cap space we offered more money than every but the Cavs to Brian Loos on a short term deal.
We are ok with where the team is at currently. We are excited to see how Bridges, Jackson, Loos, Throck, and Saul play this year. If some of these players are not here at the end of the year as well, I would not be sad, as most do not fit the long term plan.
The Starting 5 may be...
Loos
Throckmorton
Bridges
Jackson
Wade or Wheeler
with quality mins from Saul, Bonilla, and Mckinney
Sham Smith, Bulls.com: Is there anyone on your current team you can see being a part of the team when Gates is ready to lead? When do you think that will be?

Gates has either two years away from leading, or five years.
Justin Bieber; Teremana.com: You have a great defensive team, however your team can't score. Are you planning to trade for a top scorer? Also, fans in Boston are very upset you signed overrated cancer C Loos. Any comments?

Is there a reason you think AB will regress? Do you have inside information that suggests he's not happy there? Will this be a rajon rondo quit on the Mavs scenario?

From what I understand, Phoenix stopped the brewing coffee because of the water shortage. I heard he was flying in cold brew coffee from Boston on a daily basis.

Not immediately. I think the gameplanning will help fix the scoring.

Yeah. It showed he clearly is not ready. So if he plays this year, it’s by accident or out of necessity.
It’s also a less of a football thing, and more of a Zion Williamson ()can’t get out of his own way thing.
What was the thought process that went into trading for a player like Gates? If you could trade for any other player in the league that you feel like could maximize Gates talents best, who could it be?

It was simply I wanted to get the best possible reset for AB.
Player that can best maximize him is someone that is also on a delayed timeline...
