S63 TOWN HALL #7

Post by MexicanMamba »

Rules: 1 point if you give a thoughtful answer to the question, which I will award after the timer ends for responses.

QUESTION #7: IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY PLAYER FROM ONE OF YOUR PAST TEAMS (WHO NEVER REACHED PURPLE CURRENT) TO JOIN YOUR SQUAD THIS SEASON, WHO IS IT? WHY?

Responses close when Sim 7 is run!

I'd pick Wanderlei Silva. I don't think there's a big man in the league who's more dominant than he was at his peak, and he fills a bunch of voids in my team. While he'd fit with pretty much any team, my team needs offense and rebounding, and they could just feed Silva the ball in the paint and let him go to work. He was also a stellar defender with 100 block, and having the option to have two frontcourt players with 100 blk is always a recipe for success.

Now that the Bulls are a playoff team, he's the difference between a 9th championship and a 9th championship in a different amount of games.

Agreed. I once won 30 games with him and trash when I was trying to tank one season back in the day. He’s the only reason my team won that many games. Dude was legit.

Whoa. Yeah, Wanderlei Silva was a <expletive deleted>. So was Glen Sabo.

But, for my current build, a guy I'd love to have on board is Dominick Cobb. Now, when Cobb was a Laker (Warrior?), he was young garbage. In fact, I bid so little on him in RFA he bailed. He was how I learned about matching offers desired at a minimum over multiple years. By the year 2036, though? Even earlier? He was one of th ebest scorers in the league, and not an absolute schlub on defense either.

In fact, check him out: http://pbsl.ijbl.net/2036/players/player243.htm

Who wouldn't want that guy right now? 100 INS, 100 3PS, B's in ORB, DRB, PSD, PRD, I mean come on. Yeah, gimme some peak Dominick Cobb please. Thanks!!!
Somehow I manage.

I think for me I’m going to crush on my first player to be a real focal of offense for me. Eckbert Winkler.

I initially thought of Nathaniel Anderson for this post, but he really never got to the same level of play that Eckbert did. Eckbert was also on some not so good teams because I was still waiting for Pete to get his jumps in TC. But this guy on a good team would have for sure been way better from an advanced stats perspective, where this season he was a - +/- for the season to go with a level 107 on OEFF AND DEFF.

Eckbert isn’t going to be the best player on this list, where most players I thought of were purple at some point or glue guys that were not as good as Eckbert, but man was he a threat back in the day. His size (7’) combined with a 40 quickness made him a problem every night for whoever I faced. Which lead to him averaging about 25ppg and 8 rebs a season in his prime. While he doesn’t block and could be better at rebounding, his offensive skills would be the show stealer here. Don’t get me wrong as his defense was good enough to not be a liability. The most important factor would be his 2.2 fouls per game that season would be huge for this team. I already don’t foul too much, but my biggest problems are my post players for sure. So always having him on the court would be a great combo down low with both Chief and Tony (he would play C with Chief and PF with Tony.)

There's a few options for me here. The easiest answer is Glen Sabo, who was one of the best bigs in the game and after I shipped him off, he led the Nuggets to a championship too. However, my current team is loaded in the front court and while Sabo is better than Alleman and Mobley, them with Walker, Bam means the upgrade isn't too significant. Then I thought about Terry Sterner, one of my favorite players I've developed. He was a 2-way combo guard who played a lot of PG for me and is my franchise leader in assists. Would be a great option to get Safi less responsibility with the ball and can just score. It was close for him.

BUT instead I'm going with one of my original Clippers players when I first took the team over.

Michael Garvin.

I'm choosing him because one thing my team currently does not have is an elite athlete on the perimeter to attack teams with. Safi is amazing, Karlo is a pitbull on defense and Paolo is coming on but they're all on the slower side. Garvin has size (6'7), defense, can score any way you need him too and 90 QKN, making him a load to deal with. He'd be able to slide into the starting 5 and let Paolo to dominate with Walker and Galloway on the 2nd team. Image

The Maximino Morales experiment has been a dud this season so let's go back in time and grab a Hall of Fame floor general to manage this trainwreck. I choose Sir Cassius Winston.

His career was a hell of a rollercoaster for me that culminated in my first championship after 10 seasons with the Sixers. If James Wiseman was the heart of that team, Winston was definitely the soul of Philadelphia. He could do everything. Shoot, score, defend. And he stood tall at 6'1 just like his idol AI did for the Sixers in the 90s and early 00s.

I desperately need a PG this season so Winston fits the bill easily. But if I need a few minutes at Center, my man got me covered there too.

Hope you are enjoying retirement Sir Winston!

Welp this is easy for me. He hor. I know his smaller frame would be tough in the playoffs for me to win a couple series but even when he struggled to score he still had the floor generalness to dish out 14 and 18 dimes at time. This suns team would thrive with him dishing out the rock. He'd average 14-15 assists with this squad. Which isn't farfetched he averaged 27 and 12.3 assists before. Give me he hor and this team is a legitimate gates trade for another big away from competing THIS year.

Deron Williams might be eligible but I dont remember if he ever reached purple or not so im gonna pivot to Stacey Augmon (http://pbsl.ijbl.net/1996/players/player697.htm)

Digging into Augmon's player page has opened up old wounds because I traded him way way wayyy too soon. In an era where the top teams averaged only 100 pts per game Stacey would average upper 20's without shooting 3's, just mercilessly getting to the line and drawing fouls, right now we're in the bottom third of FTA and adding him would elevate us to the top half. Havent even mentioned his defense which is arguably the best of his generation in terms of wing defenders and thats a pretty big hole on our current squad
Pacers Ring of Honor
P.Ewing (90-93, 98) - R.Pierce (90-91) - S.Augmon (91-96) - D.Brown (93-96) - D.Strong (91-97, 99-02) - P.Pierce (98-05, 12-13) - D.Williams (05-17) - I.Shumpert (11-16) - D.Dedmon (13-18) - J.Williams (19-25, 31-32)

Right before I joined the Raptors the old GM got fleeced by the Phoenix Suns who stole Jaden Akins from Toronto http://pbsl.ijbl.net/players/player131.htm

Akins has quickly developed into a budding star who not only is a prolific scorer but an above-average defender. He would fit perfectly in the SF spot next to Quincy Johnson and offer a big scoring output that this team is currently lacking. I am still looking for my Akins replacement so his departure has sorely been felt by the Raptors. My team really needs help in the backcourt and talented players like Akins are foundational pieces to build around. Hopefully, I'll be able to replace his production soon enough.

Tyreke Evans:
http://pbsl.ijbl.net/2013/players/player543.htm

While I'd love to say that I'm just one player away from seriously competing, the real issue with my squad is a lack of direction past this season, and no legitimate sidekick to pair with Remy. Though Tyreke fell short of becoming the elite talent I hoped he'd be, I think getting another chance to build him up alongside Remy would ultimately be a better choice as opposed to bringing in one of my more impactful (but older) players, like David Wesley or Tony Cucone. For the time being, he would undoubtedly be a better option than Rager at PG. His interior scoring ability and defense would fit in very well, and his still-developing passing ability could be hidden with a low-motion offense. He'd basically further enhance my already-solid offense without making my defense worse.

Pre-TC nerfing, I would LOVE to have had Amare Stoudemire on this team. Amare was primed to be an ELITE PF/C in the league, with ELITE athleticism... like 60 QKN, 100 JMP, 100 STR, 100 QKN. But he lived in a time before TC insurance and was subsequently demolished on 3 occasions... even though I put money back into him. He should've been one of the best bigs in the history of this league if not for TC. I would love to put his early-pre TC destruction self into this lineup and develop along with my core.
