Team specific: that we were able to turn the bad off season around and wind up with a team that will be competitive against any team. Just this last sim, we beat the suns and nets. We have an outstanding defensive team. Yet we managed to get better by trading for Vet min players that should help the cause.
League wide: The Hawks. I’ve mentioned it in the power rankings a little. But I think this may be the best Hawks team I’ve seen since Wig left. Even with an absent GM, they are still managing to lead their division. Phil Smith is legit and Daniel Johnson will become very good too. Hopefully Cash Cab asks that final question at his destination, then stops getting distracted, and sees that he has a legit team brewing on his hands.
Team: What surprises me most is that I'm only 1 game behind the Nuggies! I think they are a top-2 team in the league (time will tell if the Lakers are better or not), making me, solidly, a top 3 or top 5 team. I feel this Warriors build still has a bit of percolating left to do, but that is a very promising start to the season.
League wide: Must be the success of the Hawks and the troubles of the Heat. I like that the Heat have refused to give in, seeing Dixson go down to injury and finding a replacement in Cuevas. Once Dixson is healthy, I think they have a very explosive offensive potential in Miami, so hopefully they can turn things around down there. But meanwhile, the Hawks winning record was predicted by few. Have yourself a year, cashcab! Great to see some wins down in Hotlanta. First time in my career as a GM have I seen wins for the Hawks. That's 25 league-worst losing seasons. Sheesh...
Team: David Brown is making the most of a lost season. The TC boost definitely helped but Brown's stat padding has been a treat to watch these past few sims. It should be a 3-man race between Brown, Carrasco, and McClung for Rookie of the Year and when you are in tax jail it is the little things that make the sim days go by that much faster.
League: The return of Nick. Welcome back! Always happy to see the league whole again. It will take a while to get used to you being the Magic GM but I know from our talks you are ready to hit the ground running and make some noise this season. I'll be curious to see how you handle the Big 3 moving forward, but it will be fun haggling back and forth again come trade time.
I am definitely most surprised about my team finding early cohesion and also winning road games. Typically whenever I've built a decent squad we start slow and we're almost always terrible on the road. Decent road percentage to start this time around and even with 3 main new rotation pieces including 2 new starters and we're still balling. I tell my guys on the court "Shoot that thang"
I think I'm mostly shocked at the Fox division. I mean this division is a blood bath but in general as I look around the league and there's just some good competitive teams all around. There's going to be some good playoff races for the 6/7 seeds if this pace keeps up. I usually laugh at weird things when it comes to scheduling and my chuckle is the Lakers being 23-2 but only having played 2 division games lol. How's that possible. Hopefully we make things a little tougher for them when they do have to visit the Fox Slaughter house
I knew my team would be bad, but I didn't think it would be this bad...figured they'd be close to making the playoffs if I felt like making a move--even after dishing Montoya. But no, I've got a real shot at a top 3 pick! I guess it makes sense. Ayo still has some growing room, McClung still has some growing room, and the rest is either roleplayers or guys who aren't ready yet, and most of those guys, being roleplayers, aren't there to be the offensive focus on the team.
In any case, it's probably a sign that I should try and trade those roleplayers (many of them blue/blue). I wonder if anyone reading this is interested?
League:
I'm surprised that so many teams are competing with the Lakers getting stronger. Especially after last season when there were only a few viable contenders. It seems like more teams are competing, and that's also a pleasant surprise. It's nice when the league is competitive, and if any competing teams need to add on b/b roleplayers, it's encouraging that there are some very gettable ones out on the open market.
Not a ton here that surprises me. It's a top-notch roster giving top-notch results. Individually, some players are having "down" seasons, but that's the price you pay when you have so many mouths to feed. One thing though that caught my eye is that Alleman is (slightly) scoring at a better clip than Evan Mobley, even while playing a few less minutes. Given their histories, I'd have expected Mobley to step in and gobble up a lot of shots and maybe only be behind Safi in scoring, but Alleman still edges him out too.
League:
The early surge of the Suns. With young players having good camps, I expected a step up in production but to this point it's been a bigger jump than I could have guessed. It's fueled by great offense (Top scoring, shooting team in the league) which, based on their personnel, shouldn't slip too much as the season progresses. The defense will likely be an issue down the stretch, but there's some great individual defenders on the team to build from in the future. They don't seem to be a fluke either, with a +10.9 differential, which is top 5 in the league. Getting Dario Beaton back soon will be a boost too.
Pistons:
Very average through the first 3 sims. Sim 2 was not pretty so I opted to look for trades. I found a deal for Montoya and Chris Jackson, and IR'd them... then we had a good Sim 3? LOL that's how this game works though. I'm not bottoming out, but I'll just go where the wind takes us. We have alot of talent on the team for the now and the future, and I want to see if JVG can handle a bigger work load going forward. Zike and Milsap have been fun to watch play this season.
League:
Brewing battle for Gebhart Division. Celtics are tooling up in getting Chris Jackson, Geronimo de la Rubio, & Talen Horton-Tucker after the trade-window opening up for the off-season acquisitions. Meanwhile, the Nets have not only weathered the brutal Sim 2-3 stretch... they remain on top of the division and look as strong as ever! READ: NOT A MIRAGE. The next month is a nice stretch of home games for them to further cement that lead in the division. PLUS, I don't think they are done making moves either. With everyone in an arms race to add depth, sources tell me the Nets are in the market and ready to make a move to add a win-now piece to strength his already dominant squad. Celtics are coming after throne, but don't expect the Nets to relinquish it anytime soon. It's going to be a battle of two titans for the rest of the season. I'm excited to watch how this plays out! Circle your calendar for 12/21/52... This is the 5th and FINAL matchup between the Nets & Celtics this season (wtf NBA Schedule makers). The series is tied currently at two wins a-piece. Playoff basketball IN DECEMBER... what more can you ask for?!
I am surprised that my team is this bad. I know they are young but I thought I would have more than 4 wins at this point. I thought I could sneak into the last spot cause of possibly benefiting from possible tanking but it seems my to is further away than I thought. The one good thing I can take away from season is the play of BI. Hopefully the others catch up soon.

My biggest surprise is the return of Nick as a GM. I knew he had a itch for returning but never thought he would act on it. It's good to have him back in the fold again. He's gonna bring trade activity up because that's what he loves lol. All it took was a pelicans loss to the rockets on Friday night for him come back.
-Pacers- This is pretty consistently been our level, we're losing close games on the road which is annoying but I think right now our record is pretty much where we should be. We're good and we're boring it is what it is lol
-League-wide id say the Bulls and Hawks are my biggest surprises. Chicago led by Gman are perenially good and theres a lot of blue and green on the roster so to see them struggle was surprising and as he said in his own answer I def expected them to compete for a playoff berth.
Ive been a big fan of Phil Smith since his draft year and im pleased to see him flourish now in Atlanta, not sure anyone would predict they'd be at the top of their division with a 2nd year GM in CashCab after all the years of neglect so for them to be off to a good start with their roster is good work
My Team; EJ Lidell is a force. I came into the season thinking that the team would focus around Kevon Looney and Quincy Johnson. Lidell is showing that he is someone that I should focus long term around. He was a pleasant surprise after the players I traded for Mobley did not pan out in this TC.
League: Speaking of, Evan Mobley sticks out to me. Too many cooks in the kitchen is leading to him having a drop off year. I checked for his name in the leaders page, and he was nowhere to be found. While I was not happy with the return I got in my trade, I wonder if Mamba was expecting more from Mobley in LA LA Land?
