S60: The Meh-gic Hour

Post by false9 »

Y'all are still doing this? Wait, I'M still doing this?! Fine, let's get to it. Earvin, what time is it?

Last season was great for being hands off! 61 wins and a Conference Finals is a result that a lot of GMs would be satisfied with. I knew I had some work to do in free agency, but I figured it would be run of the mill; max Manley and bring back some oldies at a reasonable price.

*Sign SF Kory Manley for $277,305,444 over 4 years.*

Well, sh*t happens, right? So when free agency gives you s*it, make a sh*t sandwich. Tony Parris went out during RFA, which opened up more cap for us and stocked our draft cupboard a bit more. We welcomed in Harold Schiff, Chris Jackson, Greg Hamilton, and David Lomas.

Is this group any good? Not really! Will we contend for the seven seed? ABSOLUTELY. That's the thing about cruise control- it's pretty easy to look away after setting your lineup. Everything's going to be fine.

I'll take your questions now.

I know you are on cruise control but do you see anyone on the roster that you would want to build up now that your bank has been updated?

Schiff and Dirks looks like one of the premiere front courts in the league. What kind of backcourt players would you like to get, who would complement them the best?

"Crusty Cream" Colliver, Nickelodeon: Harold Schiff was undoubtedly one of the most underrated signings of the off-season. Once a mid-level prospect, he has elevated himself to near-star status. Do you foresee this being his breakout season?

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: Even without bringing back a bunch of dudes who got paid more than expected this offseason, the Magic still have a shot to be a playoff team with the right identity. What do you think that identity should be?

Schiff, Jackson, and Hamilton will see some training shortly. As far as long term, Schiff seems like a keeper. I have the rest of the season to evaluate the other two.

Chet Youbetcha, Dimmadome News: given that you are on cruise control, what is going to be the one thing you check every time you check the page - outside of your record and draft spot?

I need a point guard that can actually pass (but I suppose that's been a league wide problem for sixty seasons), and 3&D guys. I'll be interested to see if bully ball actually works in game.

He damn well better- he's getting more playing time and more money than he ever has. Hitting 20 pts/10 rebs per game would be great.

This is a lot different than my usual builds. The bulk of our scoring will come from the inside, and we're pretty terrible from beyond the arc apart from Lomas. Expect a very methodical, rebounding, low pace team this season.

Injuries- it'd be nice if the core pieces were relatively healthy for the season.
