2038-2039 76ers Preseason Press Conference

Last season, much like the season before, went better than expected in the regular season and then the playoffs started. And much like seasons past, the 76ers hit a brick wall in the playoffs. Again. So what do we do? Run it back. Again.

To recap, the 76ers started hot and managed to stay among the league's best all season due to a balanced team-first approach. The team got some needed help in the post with former Sixer, Udoka Azubuike joining the fray at the trade deadline but it just was not enough come the playoffs. Fresh off a personal best 64 wins and my first division title, the 76ers entered as the #1 seed and faced off against the defensively stout, Denver Nuggets in Round 2. The Nuggets were a matchup nightmare up and down the lineup, and the Sixers got severely outplayed several times, especially in game 7. Bounced out of the playoffs by the eventual champ. Again.

Fast forward to this year. Rebuilt the frontcourt with Cuomo, Abney, Stephan, and Creighton while adding another veteran scorer in Slim Jenkins. The Process core is still here and despite Winston's TC setback, he is fresh off a career year and will look to rebound. Wiseman and Toppin bounced back nicely from last season's TC fiasco so the Sixers will continue to rely on them as the backbone of the team.

Overall, this team will look a lot like last season's squad. Expect them to be among the league's best during the regular season. And here's to hoping that much of the same will result in some change come playoff time.

Though you mentioned a balanced approach, if a game is on the line, who do you feel is the best player that you'll be able to rely on this season to take over and get a bucket?

James Wiseman

I started to sense the torch was being passed from J-Rod to JW as the season progressed last year. This year I see JW begin to capitalize (finally?) on the potential so many GMs saw back on Draft Day 2032 when my inbox blew up with offers for the eventual #1 pick

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: Coming off a season with the best record, the biggest additions in free agency for the 76ers were Slim Jenkins and Philip Cuomo. While they're both solid veteran players at this point in their careers, was there anyone more impactful you were hoping to grab with the MLE?

Any of the ghosts from SLOE's past -- RJB, Doncic, Ironside, Bronny James, or Grayson Allen

Figured at least one of them would leave money on the table and join Philly, but they wanted to get paid and signed for more than the MLE.

To be honest, cant say I blame em. Money talks.

Hey K100, speaking of money, you’re entering your 2nd tax year and with 4 players earning more than 30K. If things don’t pan out, would you consider sending anyone to the Pistons for a little tax relief? Or is this your all in time either way?

Barring anything catastrophic that would derail a playoff berth, I'm fine to pay the repeater tax without any hesitation. Next season, I can dip under the apron pretty easily so if I feel this squad needs a retooling, I'd just reset internally. There is no need to contact any cap-friendly team for a bailout.

GWR: Is there anyone in the conference or division that you're anticipating being a challenge to your playoff seeding this year?

Bucks and Nets for the Mourning title.

Lakers and Wizards from the other side.

And I expect one way or another to face-off against the Nuggets for a third consecutive postseason. I want my rematch.

Chet Youbetcha, Dimmadome News: Being the #1 seed and going from down 3-1 to forcing game seven, what was the biggest thing you learned from your playoff experience last year?

regular season results ≠ instant postseason success

And dont get complacent, be willing to adjust on the fly

Justin Bieber, Teremana.com: The Cavs executive management are making serious moves. The Cavs shock the world and were able to convince GM jlmarines to be their next GM. The world knows how dangerous and workhorse GM jlmarines is. Is the 76ers nervous of the potential Cavs team will bring to the Mourning Division?

Love the enthusiasm. If we are together next season after realignment I look forward to ringing in the 2040s with many battles between Wiseman and BBJ

This season, it is just fun to have a friend in the division but dont worry I have 12/1/2038 marked on the calendar. I expect a 25+ point Philly win.
