S44 Strength of Schedule Power Rankings

Hey there boys and germs.

We're back with another edition of the Strength of Schedule power rankings. Getting this in after Sim 1, partially because I think this has the most value in the beginning of the season where due to a small sample size, it may be difficult to tell a good performance from a bad one. We've incorporated point differential, opponent strength, home vs. away record, and actual record to make a humble ranking score.

As you might remember, this score IS correlated to win% in a scale out of 100%, so you can compare the power rank to the actual win% and see if the model thinks you deserved a little better, or a little worse than your record currently indicates.

This week shows the Nuggets, Bucks, and Nets got a little unlucky compared to what their record 'should' have been in that sim, and the T-Wolves, Rockets, and Knicks probably got an extra win or two. I'll do my best to keep this going throughout the season, and please let me know if you spot an error.

Happy reading!

Biggest risers: Hawks (because what the Johnson division really needs is another team on fire), Magic, Cavs, Heat +6
Biggest fallers: Pelicans -7

I think we're getting closer to real rankings and you'll notice the power score to actual win% is also getting closer. I imagine it will catch up even further next sim.

Read'em and weep (if you're the Nuggets...wait that's ME) or rejoice (if you're the Pels with the largest jump in the rankings, nice job, Nick).

In the category of 'so much for being the best in the league' we have the Thunder. The Power Ranks do not buy this 25-5 record (but thinks it should be more like 23-7) #notbad

In the category of 'is my mediocre better than your mediocre?' we got the Bucks! Who's .500 record is the best of all the .500 records (and above 3 better than .500 teams).

In the category of 'Heating Up' - the race for the first lotto team is TIGHT. With the Heat hot on the Blazers' tails, will Portland's recent moves shake this race up?

Biggest surprise last sim was that there weren't many surprises!
The Wiz dropped the most in the rankings (5 spots) on the heels of a 2-4 sim with 4 of those games at home, while the Spurs rose 3 spots after going 4-2 with 3 BIG wins to finish the sim.

Shore will!

It essentially just takes your power score (which includes factors like opponent strength, home vs. away, and point differential) times your future schedule, plus your current record to create a best guess.
